Daily Mom Style 10.09.13

fashion over 40

We’ve been having “Indian Summer” here in PA — I’m sure that is not a politically correct phrase. What do we call it nowadays?? Anyway. It’s been nuts trying to dress for these crazy temps while still maintaining some semblance of autumn in the wardrobe. We actually resorted to turning on our A/C because I couldn’t take the humidity any longer. I think fall weather is FINALLY returning this week, YAY!

I wore this outfit on Friday to spend the day at the hospital with my son for some pre-opp appointments. I didn’t realize how warm it was going to get that day, plus I knew it could be cold in the hospital so I went ahead and dressed for fall.

I’m loving this mustard boyfriend cardi from LOFT. And of course my Toms Desert Booties are a fall wardrobe staple already. I cannot get over how comfortable they were to wear ALL DAY tromping around a hospital. I wore my favorite skinny jeans, cuffed at the ankles.

Style Tip: Cuffing the jeans not only helps them fall at the right length for the booties, but this outfit feels rather top heavy with the scarf so it also helps balance out the proportions.

I picked up this scarf at Francesca’s. Have you ever been in this store? It’s a new one to me, but I’m in love with their accessories. They’re the perfect mix of trendy and affordable. I’ve had a leopard scarf on my short list ever since I pinned several fall outfits that incorporate a leopard scarf, and when I discovered this at Francesca’s, I actually squealed. I prefer infinity scarves to the regular kind, so this was practically MADE for ME!

I also bought this wrap bracelet at Francesca’s. Unfortunately you can’t see the earrings I was wearing that I got there too. Next time I’ll try to get a shot of them.

This next outfit, I wore to the Calvalcade of Bands at the local high school where my son was performing in the middle school band. It was a warm evening, so I didn’t even need layers. I paired a short-sleeved black top (from LOFT many moons ago) and my red skinny jeans.

And those are my new Taos Untold ballet flats that I mortgaged the house for. HA! So far, they’re working out well for me!

I wore this outfit to church on Sunday. This geometric print shift dress was a spontaneous purchase at the Banana Republic Factory Outlet a few years ago and it’s become of one of my favorite dresses ever. It’s flattering, easy to wear, and extremely versatile. I will pair it with tights and boots when cold weather comes, but I decided to go with bare legs and my silver Cole Haan Air Milly Wedge Pumps since the weather is so mild right now. Kinda wishing I’d bought these shoes in black. Oh well!

Finally, I wore this outfit around town one weekday. The charcoal top is from LOFT last fall, and the plum skinnies were purchased on clearance at a local boutique so I don’t have links for either, unfortunately. I wore my Taos ballet flats and kept the accessories simple with chunky silver hoop earrings and a silver link bracelet.
