Daily Mom Style 11.27.13

daily-mom-style-featured

The weather outside is frightful . . .

And so are my Daily Mom Style photos.

I hate taking pictures indoors, now that I’ve seen how much better the outside ones are. But when it’s cold and windy and rainy, well, there isn’t much choice! You’ll see that I keep trying different spots in my house, trying to find one with decent light. It’s hard b/c it largely depends on time of day (and which room isn’t too cluttery!)

Plus, my kids have taken most of these pictures so some are blurry. Oh well! This is real life I’m living here. I’m not a fashion model. I’m a 40-something housewife who is trying to keep it together . . . and some days are better than others!

So let’s go. I’m gonna keep this week short and sweet cuz mama’s got stuff to DO!

I was trying to find good lighting to show how red the boots are, but nothing really worked. I had to find my kids in the basement (see below) to get another shot. LOL!! Now you see how we really live. We are slobs.

JAFA Boots Style 2040 (sent to me as a sample, omigosh, I’m in LOVE!!!)

About JAFA Boots: JAFA Boots and Shoes are from Israel and have been in the US for less than 2 years now. The owner of JAFA, Karen Crivelli first found the incredible shoes of Israel on a vacation 3-1/2 years ago and knew she had to share them with the women here in the U.S. She says:

My growth has exceeded my expectations, and I have expanded into the Canadian market as well. JAFA is a fashion forward comfort line (what a concept!) and can be found in some of the best independent shoe stores and boutiques across the US and Canada. In Philadelphia, JAFA can be found at all the Benjamin Lovell stores, who happens to be one of my original and best customers.

I am sold, hook line and sinker. These boots aren’t only gorgeous, they are comfortable too — and you all know how picky I am about my shoes right now!!

Now, this here’s my first attempt at leggings since I wore them all the time back in 1992. I don’t know why I find it so awkward. I wear running tights without thinking twice about it. But I feel like this look is awfully . . . leggy. First I tried them with my ankle boots, and then I thought perhaps the knee-high boots would be better. I still feel like it looks like I forgot to wear pants. Tell me what you think. Maybe when it comes to leggings, my ship has sailed.

I do, however, LOVE the Hue leggings that I ordered at the recommendation of Pinterest Told Me To. The wide waistband prevents any muffin top, and they are nice and thick and provide full coverage. There’s nothing worse than thin, see-through leggings!!!

As far as the top and the overall look of the outfit, I know it’s not as flattering as a more structured ensemble, but it’s comfy and casual for my days at home. If I decide the leggings are a bust, I’ll definitely wear it with skinny jeans.

I’ll be back on Black Friday with the best sales and deals from around the Web! If you’re not already, be sure to subscribe to my email updates so you don’t miss anything!

Until then, I hope you all have a fantastic and fashionable (and most of all relaxing) Thanksgiving!!!

  1. I have just found your blog, and I really like your style. Re: leggings, I think you are like me in that you have long legs, and so I get round that by making my top a little longer, so I`m not feeling so leggy. I will always wear leggings, even under short dresses in summer, which is fast approaching here (NZ)

    1. Yeah, I was wondering if that would help. I just couldn’t really find anything any longer than this. I went to Nordstrom yesterday and tried on about 10 tops. I bought 3 and I think only this one will I be comfortable wearing with leggings, and this only probably around the house or in the most casual of situations. I really wanted something more dressy. I guess I’ll keep looking! I think wearing the taller boots is a definite must. (And so happy to “meet” you! :-))

    1. I asked about that, and this was her reply:

I do not sell online, but some of my retailers do, including Hanig’s, Imelda’s and Benjamin Lovell Shoes.

So maybe check out a few of those? Good luck! They really are sublime.

  2. The outfit with the pink top looks so good on you! And that is a big deal because normally I can’t stand anything pink! Happy Thanksgiving from East Texas!

    1. LOL, well, then, thanks! That is one of those sweaters that I keep almost throwing out and then I find myself wearing it again. I don’t love it, but you’re making me rethink that! I think the key is the striped tank. I need to wear that under it to keep it long enough.

  3. I love leggings and as long as your rear is covered, go for it! I am 38 and wear them all the time. I agree that tall boots keep them more sophisticated and more like “real” pants. I bought lots of long sweaters this season just so I can wear leggings more often!

  4. You look great in the leggings! I won’t wear them either – unless it’s with a shorter dress or a super long tunic for the same reason – I feel like I’m naked and forgot my pants! I am not a fan of the legging look for myself, but some can pull it off.

  5. I love, love, love leggings. I wear leggings or jeggings pretty much all weekend long and even to work sometimes. Can I offer some suggestions on your leggings? You can do a bit more of a structured top if you do a long sweater. I like long sweaters and tunics from Boden with leggings: https://www.bodenusa.com/en-US/Womens-Knitwear/Tunics-Kaftans/WK911/Womens-Carnaby-Tunic.html I could get away with that look for work. Also, you might like the look of the legging better if you wear black leggings with black boots. I find that it makes for more of a streamlined look.

  6. I agree with Megan, the leggings are good, but you need a longer, better shaped top. The one you have on is too short and boxy for leggings which is I think is why you feel like you aren’t wearing pants.

  7. Will have to try the HUE leggings —- I am telling you I am hooked on the HUE Luster tights, you must try with dresses/skirts.

I think I like your legging look with the tall boots; I understand your hesitation and I feel the same way— I am also an “over 40 something”. I feel as though as long and the bottom is covered it is acceptable for a very casual look.

    Happy Thanksgiving !!!

  8. Hi Jo-Lynne. I hope that your son has recovered and that you had a nice Thanksgiving. Switching gears (!) I am like you with the leggings. I think it might have something to do with skinny legs? I have friends who look great in them but they are proportioned differently. I do wear them with 2 slightly above the knee knit dresses I own. (similar to the Boden ones that are linked) I can’t seem to pull off the top and legging look though. I do believe it’s the proportion thing.
