Fashion Over 40: Grey + Fuscia

Fashion Over 40: Grey + Fuscia

Doesn’t it seem like Mondays keep coming around more quickly every week? I know I said I’d be writing a Coffee Talk post this weekend, but the weekends always seem to get away from me. Life is full right now in a very good way. We aren’t ones to overcommit our kids to a ton of activities, but they each have their thing, and with 3 kids, that still means lessons, driving, practices, performances. Then of course there are orthodontist appointments and school volunteer activities. We are active at church and in our neighborhood, and there were events with both this weekend. I spent Saturday shopping with my older daughter. Teenagers are expensive, yo!

I’m running again and working out, and I still have weekly PT appointments. I’m not overwhelmed, but there’s not a lot of spare time either. The weather has been gorgeous this fall, and some days I drive down my street, past the kids playing in their front yards, past the trees slowly changing from shades of green to their fall reds and golds, and I’m struck by the beauty of the ordinary. There are unthinkable things happening all over the world, and I know many people who are struggling right now, and yet in my little pocket of the universe, life is good. I’m trying to savor every moment because I know that things can change in the blink of an eye — not to be a Debbie Downer, but to be grateful for the good times. I don’t want to take anything for granted.

It’s really starting to feel like fall here in Pennsylvania. I’ve finally brought all of my winter clothes down from the attic and organized my closet. I’ve had some requests for a closet tour, so I’m hoping to work on that this week. Meanwhile, this v-neck wool sweater is a classic that I never seem to tire of. I’ve had it for a few years. The bold fuscia is  gorgeous and pairs well with black and grey, making it the perfect canvas for this grey animal print scarf.

With that, I wore medium-blue ankle length skinny jeans and these gorgeous grey suede booties that were gifted from Marmi Shoes. This is the VANELi Jara. They come in black, grey, moka, and wine suede. They’re fully lined with elastic goring on each side of the shaft, making them super comfortable inside. I don’t even wear socks with them because I don’t need them. The heel is a 3-1/2″ wedge with a 1/2″ platform and a rubber sole, so while they’re high, they’re easy to walk in. Plus. GORGEOUS!!!

I’ve worn these several times already, and they are incredibly comfortable. They don’t rub anywhere or irritate my finicky feet. They slip on and off easily because of the elastic goring, and the sophisticated but casual styling makes them the perfect compliment to so many outfits. By the way, if you have narrow feet, Marmi Shoes has a huge selection of narrow shoes for women.

The DL1961 Emma is a great all-around skinny jean. The ankle length makes them perfect for cuffing with booties or wearing un-cuffed with ballet flats or sandals. The Blaze wash that I have is sold out, but you can find them in the similar Cashel wash at Nordstrom, and the Emma is marked WAY down in a variety of colors and washes at 6pm.com.

I carried my grey crossbody because I like how the gold chain plays off the gold in my accessories. Unfortunately this color is no longer available, but you can see all the color choices in the R Minkoff Mini MAC on their website.

The Isabelle Wrap Bracelet is a gold coil bracelet with accents of soft blue and smokey sparkle, and the Maylee Ring has a subtle pattern of chevrons mixed with simple bands that create a subtle spike detail. This a fabulous everyday ring that compliments so many other accessories.

To tie my scarf, I just looped it around once and then I slipped one end into the loop. Very easy. When it gets colder, I can see this outfit with a leather jacket or wool blazer.

  1. Another fantastic look!!! This is right up there with the mustard colored sweater and leopard scarf 🙂

Thank you for your comments as well. Yes, life is so busy. I too, have 3 kids (teenagers) and it does get expensive. Even though my oldest is in college and has his student loans, I still have to pay the parent responsibility which was $930 recently. The other two are in high school and involved in sports. I do not like to over commit either. I work outside the home and I honestly don’t see how some people do it. I do make it a point to have one on one time with each child, even when my oldest comes home. My father is blind with numerous of health issues so when I see the changing colors, I automatically thank God continuously for my eyesight that I can see and also hear as well.

Looking forward to your closet tour.

  2. Jo Lynn,

You look so pretty in that color! It brightens up your face – Just gorgeous. I like the grey and black scarf with the fuscia top, also. A very good idea.
The entire outfit is darling. You knocked it out of the park today!

  3. Beautiful color on you! Love your grey animal print scarf! Can’t wait for the closet tour 🙂
So true about being thankful for the many good things in life & not dwell on the ones we can’t change! Have a Marvelous Monday Jo-Lynne

  4. Congrats on getting your closet turned over. I have been thinking about it, but this cold snap just made it real. Love the fuschia color and the boots.

  5. Those booties – seriously! I wish they weren’t so tall, but I’m now heading over to see what else they have. They are stunning!!! The whole outfit is fab lady, just fab!! 😉
