December Try On Haul: Amazon, LOFT, Bloomingdale’s & More

Good Saturday morning! Have I got a doozie of a try-on sesh for you!

But first, I published a second post yesterday afternoon — Holiday Dressing with Ann Taylor. I’m really excited about this one, and I don’t want you to miss it. I’m styling faux leather leggings and a sparkly pencil skirt — both very fun looks that are a little different for me but still in keeping with that “classy with a side of edgy” vibe I like so much. Plus Ann Taylor is running a 40% off sale with an extra 15% off pants and denim! You can read that post HERE.

For today’s post, I’ve been collecting odds and ends of try-on pictures for a few weeks, and then I got a big order from LOFT and Amazon in the mail yesterday, so this try-on haul is the motherload!

December Try On Haul: Amazon, LOFT, Bloomingdale's & More

December Try On Haul

Let’s jump right in with pants and jeans. I don’t feature as many of these as I should. What can I say? I’m a sucker for a good sweater!!! And there are plenty of those in this post, but first. Pants.

I’m still on the hunt to find straight leg jeans that I feel good in, so I decided to quit messing about with brands I’m not crazy about and go ahead and order straight leg jeans in a few of my favorite premium denim brands. I also decided to quit trying the cropped straights. They don’t work for me, and I’m tired of trying to fig a square peg in a round hole… so to speak.

The issue I’m finding with full length straight leg jeans is they’re too long and need to be hemmed. This, my friends, is the main reason I love skinny ankle jeans. They go with ALL the shoes. But I’m determined to persevere.

7 For All Mankind Women’s Kimmie Straight-Leg Jeans ($159) // The wash is okay, and I think I’d like the fit in the right size, but I ordered the size 29 and I think I need the 28. I would also need to hem them — I tucked them under for these pictures.

also wearing: Everlane premium cashmere turtleneck and Lucky Brand Women’s Sairio Booties

Lucky Brand Women’s Sairio Booties ($69) // These are a good, classic leather bootie with a 3 1/2″ heel. I ordered mine from Amazon, but you can also find these at Nordstrom. The nice thing about these booties is they can be worn in inclement weather because they’re a firm, glossy leather, and they work well with straight leg jeans as well as ankle skinny jeans.

AG Harper Essential Straight Leg Jeans ($188) // AG never fails me, and once again, I struck gold with these jeans. I like the classic dark wash, and the fit is definitely better than the 7 For All Mankind pair. These are a 29 as well, and they look great in these photos, but they felt slightly roomy so I sent them back and ordered the 28.

also wearing: Everlane premium cashmere turtleneck and Flexx mules

AG Prima Cigarette Jeans ($132) // I learned my lesson from the AG Harper, and I ordered these in the 28. They’re a nice fit as well, but the leg is slimmer than the Harper — not quite a straight and not quite a skinny. The nice thing about these is they are the right length — or close to it. This Prima style has a 30″ inseam as well as a 11.5″ leg opening, as opposed to the Harper which has a 32″ inseam and a 13.5″ leg opening. I don’t like this wash as much, though, so I’ve ordered the Harper in a size 28 and I’m going to have them hemmed.

LOFT Velvet Dot Tie Back Shell ($54.40 + 50% off) // How fun is this top for casual holiday parties? It is really versatile and could be dressed up or down. I like it with blue jeans as pictured on the LOFT website, but I also styled it with black jeans and strappy sandals for a dressier look that’s coming to the blog next week.

also wearing: Ann Taylor Crystal Stretch Bracelet (40% off) and J.Crew Cluster Drop Earrings (40% off)

SALE ALERT >> Get 50% off at LOFT with code NEWNOW, get 40% off at Ann Taylor with code GIVEANDGET + 15% off pants and jeans, and get 40% off full prices and 50% off sale prices at J.Crew with code SALELOVE

LOFT Jeweled Bow Flats ($98 + 50% off) // For those who don’t like to wear heels but still want to look festive, I give you these adorable flats with the sparkly bow. When I first put them on, I thought they were dreadfully uncomfortable, but after wearing them around for a bit, they softened up. I think they run slightly small though. You may want to size up a half size from your usual.

AG Legging Ankle Jeans in Black Stretch Sateen ($178 + 25% off) // There was a conversation in the comments a few weeks ago about this sateen fabric, and I realized I’ve been linking to these black Legging Ankle Jeans in Black Stretch Sateen at Bloomies and my black AG The Legging Ankle Jeans from Nordstrom interchangeably, depending on which is on sale, but the fabric content is different. I decided to order the ones from Bloomies to compare, and the material is definitely less of a denim and more of a sateen legging fabric. They still fit the same, and they look fabulous, but I would say these are dressier. If you’re interested in trying them on at home before buying, you can also find them in Amazon Prime Wardrobe. For reference, I’m wearing my usual 28, and the fit is the same as my other black AG legging ankle jeans.

also wearing: Everlane premium cashmere turtleneck featured in THIS POST and Flexx mules featured in THIS POST

FINCATI Cashmere Sweater ($69) // This is an Amazon Fashion find, and it is surprisingly good. Super soft, fits well, nice details. I’m a fan. Every size is priced a little bit differently, but most are under $70. For reference, I’m wearing a small.

also wearing: Flexx mules and 7 For All Mankind b(air) The Ankle Skinny Jeans with silver Gorjana Quinn Necklace

Amazon Essentials Women’s Lightweight Lounge Terry Long-Sleeve Tie-Waist Top ($17) // Sticking with Amazon here for a bit, I decided to try out some of the Amazon Essentials line. The prices are outstanding, and honestly, I was pleasantly surprised with the quality and feel of the items I ordered. This top is especially flattering — I love the cut. For reference, I’m wearing a small.

Amazon Essentials Women’s Lightweight Lounge Terry Pant ($17) // I really did not want to take these off after trying them for this post. I could happily wear these all day long. They’re thin but soft and plenty roomy in my usual size small.

Amazon Essentials Women’s Lightweight Lounge Terry Open-Front Cardigan ($18) // Another really cute, comfy piece from this line. These would make nice gifts if you have someone on your list who loves to get cozy in the evenings after work or on the weekends.

Daily Ritual Women’s Featherweight Cotton Short-Sleeve Crew Neck T-Shirt (2 for $20) // These are thin but the fit is really nice. They do run small, however. I would need to size up to a medium.

Daily Ritual Women’s Hooded Sweater ($39) // Daily Ritual is another Amazon brand, and I’m loving this sweater. I ordered the charcoal in a medium and the light heather grey in a small, and they both fit fine. It’s just a matter of personal preference. I really like the length and the shape, the hood, and the split ribbed hem. It’s comfortable and cozy and not at all scratchy. For $39, you can’t beat it.

also wearing: J.Crew Smoking Slippers in Navy and AG The Legging Ankle Jeans (similar style for 25% off) with these filigree drop earrings

Daily Ritual Women’s Mock-Neck Tunic Sweater ($34) // Another Daily Ritual piece, this one is also nice and soft with the split ribbed hem, but this one is slightly longer in the back. Both this and the hooded one above come in a nice assortment of neutrals. I’m wearing a small in this sweater, but I think I could use a medium, plus I’m assuming it will shrink some so definitely a medium.

also wearing: J.Crew Smoking Slippers in Navy (40% off) and AG The Legging Ankle Jeans (similar style for 25% off) with these filigree drop earrings

BENANCY Simple V-Neck Pullover ($16) // This is the last piece I have from Amazon, and this one is just okay for me. For $16, it’s cute and has a few fun details, but the quality seems a bit meh in my opinion. Also, I’m wearing a small but would size up to a medium if I were keeping it.

also wearing: R Minkoff Mika Mules and AG The Legging Ankle Jeans (similar style for 25% off) and my nails are CND Hollywood

AQUA V-Neck Cashmere Turtleneck ($79) // Another black v-neck sweater, but there is no comparison to the one above when it comes to quality. This cashmere turtleneck from Bloomingdale’s is luxurious and so soft. It’s one of their store brands so the quality isn’t on par with brands like Eileen Fisher, Vince, and Theory, but for cashmere under $100, the Bloomingdale’s AQUA line is my favorite. I particularly like the way they do the exposed seams for a subtle detail. I like to size up in these; I’m wearing a medium.

also wearing: Marc Fisher Zalaly Pumps (25% off) and AG The Legging Ankle Jeans (similar style for 25% off) with Gorjana Superstar Necklace

AQUA Cashmere Turtleneck Sweater ($79) // This is the turtleneck version of the cashmere v-neck above. This one has extended cuffs, which I really like, and it has the exposed seams too.

also wearing: R Minkoff Mika Mules and AG The Legging Ankle Jeans in Shadow Fog (25% off) with Gorjana Quinn Necklace

LOFT Square Neck Sweater ($59 + 50% off) // I ordered this sweater to go with the skirt below, but first I tried it on with the AG Prima Cigarette Jeans from the top of the post. Here you can also see how these jeans work with pumps.

This sweater is made of a nice quality, soft gauge knit with a traditional shape. I see this as more of a layering piece than a stand-alone piece. I’m wearing the small, and I guess it fits, but it’s definitely body-con. I like the square neckline a lot. Oh, and it comes in black as well.

also wearing: AG Prima Cigarette Jeans and L.K. Bennett Sersha Pumps

LOFT Lattice Jacquard Pencil Skirt ($59 + 50% off) // This skirt is thin and stretchy and comfortable to wear. I’m in the small, for reference. I wish I’d tried my black knit blazer on over this outfit. It definitely needs a completer piece. I tried it with flats and pumps to show some options.

also wearing: LOFT Square Neck Sweater and LOFT Jeweled Bow Flats (top) L.K. Bennett Sersha Pumps (bottom)

LOFT Keyhole Blouse ($49 + 50% off) // This is a really pretty blouse, but I struggle to style these long, relaxed styles. Left untucked, it looks sloppy, but it’s a lot of material to tuck in — especially to a skirt as thin and stretchy as this one. The front tuck looks so doofy from the side… does anyone really wear them like this? #thisiswhyIwearsweaters

also wearing: LOFT Lattice Jacquard Pencil Skirt and Stuart Weitzman pumps (old as the hills)

Button Cuff Cowl Neck Sweater Dress ($89 + 50% off) // I had high hopes for this dress, and it’s really cute, but I do wish it were a little longer. I think I like it best with OTK boots for that reason. That said, it’s flattering without clinging, and the material is really pretty. I’m a sucker for a donegal any day, but especially the oatmeal colored ones, and this has flecks of blue and brown. Really pretty. Also, the neckline is the perfect cowl, and the button cuff sleeves are so sharp. I’m wearing a small, for reference, but I could probably wear a medium. It also comes in petite (but not tall) sizes.

also wearing: Sam Edelman Caprice Knee High Boots (top) Vince Camuto Kochelda Over the Knee Boot (bottom)

LOFT Stitched Sleeve Sweater ($69 + 50% off) // This is a cute sweater, and the sleeve detail is so pretty. It also comes in ivory. It’s not as soft as some of the others, but not in a bad way, and the fit is really nice.

also wearing: J.Crew Smoking Slippers in Navy and AG The Legging Ankle Jeans (similar style for 25% off) with Gorjana Quinn Necklace

LOFT Fairisle Turtleneck Sweater ($69 + 50% off) // Finally, this fairisle sweater is GORGEOUS! It’s also thick and soft and very comfy and cozy to wear. I also think it would be cute paired with white jeans or off-white cords. Definitely a keeper! I’m wearing a small in all of these sweaters, for reference.

also wearing: LOFT Leggings in Brushed Sateen (50% off) and Jeffrey Campbell Vanhook Booties (the Rosalee is very similar)

WHEW! That was a lot. I hope it’s helpful. The sales right now are crazy. Like almost as good as Black Friday week crazy. I think these retailers are getting to the point where they can’t not run a sale, because why would anyone shop knowing they can get 40% or 50% off so often? I’m curious to see where it all leads, but for now, you better believe I’ll be taking advantage of it!

  1. Happiness is sitting by the fire with a cup of coffee and a Jo Lynne try on sesh! So fun! The fairisle sweater from Loft is so pretty, I had to order it.

  2. Oh my goodness, Loft sure knows how to get me with those 50% off sales! I just had to order the square neck top and pencil skirt and found a cute dress while I was there as well. Fingers crossed, I should be set for the holiday season.

  3. Love that Fairisle sweater! And yay for the Harper! They look great on you! I just got a pair this week and love them and I was thinking I should tell you about them if you hadn’t already tried them. Yes, the hemming is a pain, but you get exactly the length you want which is nice. They remind me of the Grace fit by DL1961 which they don’t carry anymore. Those are my favorite favorite jeans so it was nice to find a replacement for when they finally bite the dust.

  4. What a wonderful way to start the day! All these beautiful clothes and coffee! Thank you! And it ALL looked great!

  5. Love the Fairisle sweater.  I may have to order it.  What size are you wearing in the Loft Leggings in that picture?  I have those and love them, they are so soft!  Wondering your size for future reference when I order pants you feature.

  6. Fun post!  The jeans…I like the cigarette ones, but then I see you in your classic AG skinnies, and I hate to say it, but there’s no comparison.  The AG skinnies look like they were made for you – so flattering.  I know you won’t stop trying (which is a good thing), but that’s my two cents.  Question (and I asked this on your earlier post, but probably too late) – did you try on any of the Everlane jeans?  Their stuff looked amazing on you, but I wasn’t sure if you didn’t feature pants because you didn’t try them, or didn’t think they fit you well.  I have always loved the look of their pants online (skinny but not sausage-like), but I’m nervous about ordering a brand I know nothing about.  I was hoping if you tried them, you could at least give me a hint on the size.  Anyway – loved the hooded sweaters.  Loved that Loft skirt and square top (I think even some jewelry would finish it off, but I agree a black jacket would be great).  That’s all – have a great weekend!

  7. Enjoyed your try on session with my Starbucks latte this morning and it was delightful!  🙂  As always, love these posts!  Already ordered the Loft stitched sleeve sweater for myself and my daughter!  Also, am SWOONING over the Ann Taylor tortoise shell heel boots from yesterday’s post and am trying to think of a reason why I need them!  🙂  Thanks for all of the fashion inspiration!

  8. This was such a good one! That fair isle sweater is adorable on you!
I’m anxious to get that sweater dress in (should be today), but I’m worried I went too small after seeing this. I went down in size and got petite, so realllly hoping it’s not too short!

  9. I love clothes from Loft. My favorite is the last blue fairisle sweater. I picked that up in store when the sale first started and I love it. Very soft and the color is gorgeous.

  10. Hey there,
Love all of the outfits, but wanted ask how you can wear mules and flats with no sock or hose? It’s 30 degrees here in NY. Also, can you show some pics of ankle boots with skinny jeans. My ankles will freeze with no covering. I see people put straight leg jeans over the booties, but then you can see how nice the boot is . Any suggestions?  Thanks

    1. A lot of days, I’m mostly at home. I did wear the one outfit with loafer mules out to go shopping one day when it was pretty cold out, colder than I realized when I got dressed that morning – and I don’t know… I’ve never been too bothered if I’m not outside for long. I just go from the car to the store, ya know? But normally, if it’s in the 20s or 30s, I will wear boots instead of loafers or ballet flats.

I’ve styled tons of ankle boots with skinny jeans over the years, and this post is specifically about how to style ankle boots: https://jolynneshane.com/how-to-wear-ankle-boots.html

Straight leg jeans over booties works too, and yeah, you won’t see as much of the boot. That’s one more reason I like my skinnies. 🙂

  11. Great try on sesh!  Thank you for including some Amazon Fashion.  I look at their items and usually pass them by because the prices are so low, I can’t imagine how they could good quality.  All of these look great on you!

    1. Yeah, and while these are good, the quality does reflect the price. They’re a good value, but the quality is not the best… if that makes sense. I particularly liked those two hooded sweaters, tho.

  12. These are really fun, really helpful posts!  I liked all the jeans on you.  I have the cigarette jeans (my first AG found at TJMaxx 2 years ago) and even though I had them hemmed, I think they’re a little long.  But, they are soooo comfortable, like pajama pants.
I added some things to my Amazon wishlist and some to my private cart 😉      Thanks for doing these.

  13. I’m glad you tried on the sweater dress from Loft. I was considering it on their site but I think I am a couple of inches taller than you so it would be way too short on me! Saved me a purchase and return 🙂

  14. Ho,y cow, that was a mother load, for sure!  The ballet flats with the bow are so cute!  If I were in need of clothes, you shared several pieces I would look into.  I do want to try a pair of cigarette jeans since the skin tight skinny jeans aggravate me, at times.  I need to push myself to order clothing from Amazon Prime.  The pink sweater you shared is a beautiful color!  Thank you!

  15. Oh my gosh so much to look at I lost track of what was what! 😆 So I’m probably the only person on the planet who has not had good luck with AG denim. I keep buying and returning. I just don’t think they’re made for tall women. (Which is ironic since models are all tall right?) They are just too short and the pockets sit too low on my bum and make it look like they’re riding down. I’m a size 27 and 5’9” tall. Paige denim doesn’t work for me either, sadly. Please let me know which premium brand you’d recommend for a tall slender girl!
Funny story about denim, I have a pair of high waisted jeans from Madewell that I really like, but after wearing them all day about a month ago, I started having pain in my belly. I did not make any connection though between the jeans & the pain. I was afraid it was serious (appendix, intestinal etc..) so long story short the doctor told me there is a real problem called “tight pants syndrome” (yes, Google it!!)  and it’s been increasing problems for women since skinny and high waisted jeans became popular. Apparently it was causing too much constriction in my abdomen! So even though they hold in the “love handles” I guess they’re bad for the dirgestion and belly!! Low rise jeans never put pressure on the mid section! Lol!
Oh if only we could wear leggings everyday. 🤩

    1. See, and the low pockets are one of the main reasons I like Paige and AG. I have found some other brands have pockets that sit too high and look really doofy. I think it just goes to show, not one style works for everyone. 🙂 Have you tried J.Brand? I’m trying to think of the brands that have pockets I don’t like, haha!

Okay, that is too funny about the jeans… I mean, not funny, but wow! So I have had that happen to me before too — before low rise jeans came out. I have digestive issues already, so if the waistband sits in the wrong spot and puts pressure on my abdomen, I get a belly ache. #longlivelowrisejeans 😜

      1. So I was always a huge fan of Hudson denim through the 2000s and beyond as that brand fit me perfectly and the pocket placement was really flattering ( the flap pockets especially). True Religion works well too because of the length and overall fit.  But then styles changed and I started trying other denim like AOS (which are great and such a good price, but really thin so they wear out fast)
Madewell and Mother brand jeans are fabulous, but most of their denim now is all really high waisted and I now know I have to be careful with that style and my belly issues 😏 . I have a pair of  J brand skinny jeans I really like but overall that brand is kinda hit or miss for me. I do have 1 pair of AG cropped ankle jeans that I like ☀️💛 and they’re good in the spring or summer to wear with sandals.
I’m going to try ordering a couple from  Kut from the Kloth as their pockets are smaller. I’m just not sure about the length . I’m on the hunt for a good (long) pair of slightly flared boot cut jeans. 😊
Wow, that was probably WAY TOO MUCH information! Happy Sunday!!

        1. Oh, yes. Hudson! I like them okay too, but their pockets are a little big on me. So yeah, I think you and I do well with different pocket styles. I guess it’s a good thing there’s a lot of variety out there. 🙂 And I was also going to suggest trying Mother. Again, I have heard great things, but I haven’t loved them on me. Rag & Bone has nice pockets but I don’t like the way the hem on their skinnies always flares in a funny way.

  16. Great try on sesh! My favorites are the jade keyhole blouse with the pencil skirt and the fair isle sweater.

I had to LOL about the front tuck – I do front tuck my blouses like that but I always have a blazer or cardigan over it, so it doesn’t look goofy. I am always cold and those blouses aren’t warm enough on their own. I wish the skirt came in petite! I struggle with pencil skirts always being too long and hard to walk in #shortgirlproblems lol!

  17. Finally able to sit down and read this try on sesh post.  Wow!!!  You did a lot of work on it.  Lots of fun and some great finds and prices.  You look great in them.  I think you’ve lost weight.  Thanks for all you do to inform us and give us great fashion ideas

  18. Wow! What a fun post! So many cute things! I haven’t purchased any clothes from Amazon before, that Fincati sweater is really cute! Are they good about returns if things don’t fit?
