Denim Trend to Try: Hem Detail

Thanks to Nordstrom and ShopStyle for sponsoring this post.

Denim trends are in transition this year, with a lot of cropped straighter styles coming into vogue, and rises are getting higher too.

One of my favorite denim trends that’s gaining ground this year is interesting hem details like on these Frame Le Skinny chew hem ankle skinnies.

I picked up these jeans during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, and they’re on sale again and fully stocked too! I love how the chewed-up hem adds texture and interest to the look without any other distressing.

The dark wash on these jeans with the subtle fading on the thighs makes them versatile for dressing up or down. They have a comfortable 9 1/2″ rise and a 26″ inseam, so they pair easily with booties.

For a similar style under $100, take a look at the Kut from the Kloth Connie frayed ankle skinny jeans.

I styled my Frame chew hem jeans two ways for this post — first, for a more casual look I’d wear just about anywhere in my day-to-day life, I paired them with this coral v-neck sweater and added taupe suede booties.

These booties are from Jeffrey Campbell, and they’re super comfortable and lined with leather inside. (Mine are a different version, but pretty much the same bootie except with a slightly higher shaft.)

The 3″ stacked heel is super walkable, and these are pretty much my go-to all fall and winter when it’s mild enough to go without socks. (I personally prefer to wear these without socks.)

And isn’t this v-neck sweater such a pretty shade of pink? It’s made by Nordstrom’s BP. brand and also comes in grey. I’m wearing a small, for size reference.

The wide v-neckline is flattering, and the blouson sleeves are a fun on-trend detail. This sweater has a high cotton content, so it’s soft and comfortable against the skin, and it’s a great price — especially at 40% off.

I love an easy sweater and jeans outfit — so easy to throw on and go, and this look will take me just about anywhere I need to go on a busy weekday. Whether I’m working at home, running to the mall, or meeting a friend for coffee, I’ll feel comfortable and put-together in this outfit.

For size reference, these Frame skinnies run TTS, or size down if in between. Even though I’m in my usual 29, and they look great, they tend to slide down. In my experience, sizing down in Frame denim usually solves that issue, and the fit will be pretty much the same. I wish I’d gone with the 28.

I also wanted to show these chew hem jeans dressed up for more of a date night or GNO look.

Anyone recognize this blouse and shoe combo?

Last week I shared a work wear look including this stripe boxy blouse and these croc print mules, and I mentioned that the blouse also looks great front-tucked into jeans.

Well . . . voilà!

I really like the color palette in the blouse paired with dark denim, and by giving it a front-tuck, it takes away some the boxiness and shows off my waist.

As it turns out, these mules look pretty amazing with jeans too!

I love how they contrast against the dark wash jeans, and that chewed-up hem is the perfect edgy juxtaposition to the feminine heels.

I don’t feel this blouse needs a necklace, so instead I opted for two-tone hoop earrings (similar here) and a chunky link bracelet.

Best of all, I was able to find all of these pieces at Nordstrom. Gotta love one-stop shopping!

I always know I can depend on Nordstrom to have everything I need to make the perfect outfit for any occasion.

  1. Happy Monday!  What a great looking outfit, both ways!  Love the dressed up version with those mules & loving those earrings!  Just when I thought I could switch my wardrobe, we’re back to having mild weather!  Crazy Pennsylvania weather!  Have a great week!

  2. Oh how I wish a Nordstrom would come here! Love the looks but the second is my favorite. I just bought a pair of jeans DEX brand with a slight distress and that chewed hem. Can’t wait to wear them.
    Happy Monday

    1. Karen, while I have a Nordstrom 15 miles from me, I very rarely shop there.  However, I shop Nordstrom online all the time.  I think if you start ordering, you will find it’s easy and since their shipping & returns are free, there is no added cost if something doesn’t work or you need to try two sizes to find the perfect fit.

  3. I love the second outfit. It’s so chic and feminine with a nice edge. Not something we would normally see you wear but very flattering on you. Plus it’s still to warm in South Texas for sweaters but it’s starting to slowly dropped so in the meantime I’m looking for a few more transition pieces to wear this time of year and this top would be great.

  4. I like the chewed hem jean style trending right now. They would look cute styled with sandals for those still experiencing hot temps. I like to wear sandals as long as I can. My toes like the freedom. 😆
I love your mules but find I can’t walk in them. I’d love to find a pair of croc shoes in that color to add to my wardrobe. It’s such a warm and versatile color.

  5. I love how you styled both outfits, Jo-Lynne.  Those mules are so gorgeous!  You have me longing for sweater weather, but I’m enjoying these precious days of warm weather as I know that Fall is just around the corner.  Fabulous post as always!

  6. The striped blouse may be my most favorite purchase of the season. I absolutely love it. This is a great contrast to the work wear from last week.

  7. Funny how my lap top changes the colors of some of the items you post.  My computer shows the sweater as light pink and the booties as light grey.  Nice work on the 2 outfits.  I just wish they’d quit putting so much fading on jeans now.  I’m older than you and I’d like just all one color denim for Fall and Winter.

  8. Do you find the coral sweater boxy or long? Trying to figure it out because it looks like it may be a little roomy.
