Dirty Electricity?

Technology and Health Risks

11 Ways to Protect Yourself from Dirty Electricity

I’m about ready to move my family to a deserted island and live like the Aborigines.  I’ll just return to the mainland when I need my Nordstrom fix or a Starbucks mocha latte (tall, whole milk, no whip please.)

Oh nevermind.  That could be weekly, and the gas for the boat would get costly.  Besides, I’m sure that’s toxic too.

I give up.

Perhaps that’s how some of you feel when you read my food tirades posts.  It took me many years to get up the nerve to delve into the food issue and really sort it out.  It’s so much easier to stick your head in the sand.

That’s how I feel about this Dirty Energy topic.  I’m sure there is truth to it.  But aside from my island fantasy outlined above, I don’t know how to avoid it.  And I am just tired of trying to figure out how to protect my family from all the dangers lurking in the most unexpected places.

If it’s not dirty electricity, it’s BPA.  If it’s not BPA, it’s our meat getting shot full of antibiotics and hormones.  If it’s not that, it’s GMO corn.  Or aluminum.  Or…

Is there no end to the list of modern inventions that are supposedly killing us?

Not to suggest that there were no dangers in other times and in other places. I do not mean to glorify the past or to disdain the present.  I would not want to live at any other place or point in time. It’s just that sometimes I get SO TIRED of hearing about yet another thing we should avoid.

  1. This is why I pray for Jesus to come again soon! Then there will be nothing to worry about ever again for eternity!

Hope your back is better. Are you reading Little Women with June? I’m trying, but I can’t get the movie out of my head when I read. Books-turned-into-movies have ruined reading for me. 🙁

  2. Well, if we lived in the dark ages we definitely wouldn’t have dirty electricity but we would have to deal with the Plague… I think it might be a never ending battle!

  3. Grrr! I get so frustrated by the fact that you practically do have to move off the grid to protect yourself from everything. It’s so hard to avoid all the bad stuff and you have to go out of your way to do so. As soon as you think you’ve mastered eliminating something (i.e. BPA) it’ll just turn up in something else (like grocery store receipts!) or they’ll always be some other new risk on the horizon!

  4. So funny to see you posting about this, as I just started reading about this topic a couple of days ago. So frustrating. Feels like we just can’t win. An Amish farm is looking pretty good these days!!

  5. I’m with you. Just when you think you are doing something ‘right’ (i.e. feeding yourself and your family), this stuff comes along and makes you think ‘why do I try?’ A big part of why I spend more time (and money) on our food is that it really does make me personally feel better – more energy, happier and more focused. So at least if I die from brain poisoning from my cell phone, I’ll know that I enjoyed the days I had.

And I pray for Jesus to come back soon too. Seems like things just keep getting worse.

  6. I was chuckling all the way through – you are absolutely correct and I understand where you are coming from! I have a friend who uses dish soap to wash her veggie’s and fruit… does that harm more than the chemicals placed on them? Who knows? I figure the best thing to do is to do our best to avoid “bad stuff” and let God do the rest!
No, I wouldn’t want to live in any other time either – and I speak as one who has immersed herself in the 3rd and 4th century Christian history! Come by my history blog and see what I mean – It’s about that amazing Christian, St. Nicholas!

  7. I’m laughing at the article…I think I do most of these things (wrong) except I do unplug some things when not using them. My kids hate it because they always think the toaster is broken…I just stumbled across your blog today and I love your tone here…I needed a laugh I will keep reading for sure.

  8. Me too!! I saw that link on my facebook and didn’t even click over to it. It’s not like it’s something I can avoid anyways unless I planted my butt in my house and never moved *sigh* Trying to change our food habits is hard enough LOL

  9. I know! I was just thinking about this while grocery shopping a few weeks ago. I almost didn’t want to buy ANY food at all because of things I’d read on the news or on blogs.

Sometimes it does seem almost appealing to just bury my head in the sand.

I want to be informed (don’t get me wrong), but I also don’t want to live in fear.

    {sigh}
