DWTS

It certainly was an eventful night on Dancing With The Stars.  I always go into a season with one person I’m rooting for.  This year it was Misty May Treanor.  I watched her Olympic volleyball matches sitting on the edge of my seat.  Which is another way of saying wrapped up in a blanket on my comfy sofa with a glass of wine, but let’s not split hairs.

I was a bit worried for her as I watched the show progress.  Athletic women have not always done well on DWTS.  Remember Monica Seles from last season?  Yeah so I was a bit concerned about how Misty May would perform off the sand volleyball court.  But she held her own.  She might stick around for a while.

Other noteworthy performances were Brooke Burke, Lance Bass, and surprisingly, Warren Sapp.  Although I suppose I shouldn’t have been surprised.  While athletic women don’t seem to fare so well in this competition, athletic men often steal the show — specifically NFL players.  Last year I was a huge fan of Jason Taylor, and then there was the year that Emmitt Smith took home the coveted mirror ball trophy. Based on that and tonight’s performance, I predict Warren Sapp will go far.

My sympathy vote goes to Cloris Leachman, who went from delightfully charming to downright vulgar in the space of about ten minutes.  I’m sorry, but there is nothing becoming about a woman with a profane mouth.  I hope I can remember that the next time I feel an expletive coming on.  Nevertheless, you have to admire a woman who is willing to go on national television and learn ballroom dancing at the age of 82.  Or perhaps you should have more pity than admiration.  Feel free to leave your 2 cents in the comments.

Line of the night goes to Len: "Mind your cleavage!"  And I should THINK so.

As always, there is a group who doesn’t stand a chance.  Poor Susan Lucci is in that group.  I thought she looked awkward and frail.  The short skirt did her no favors.  Jeff Ross will probably be the first to go.  I don’t see him having a large voting fan base, and he really didn’t impress anyone — which really means me or the judges.  Of course I can’t speak for you.  What do YOU think?

I know I’m looking forward to tonight!

  1. I didn’t get to see and we were already using the DVR for the extra long “Heros” that was on last night. How was my girl Kim Kardashian? Was the cleavage comment made about her?

  2. Totally agree with your great summation of the show! I havent really picked a fave yet but Jeff and Cloris were my least favorites! I think they knew it too because they were sitting together in the green room commiserating.

  3. I didn’t get to see it. The kids did watch the first hour, but I was busy cleaning up the kitchen and stuff. I so need a TV in my kitchen so I can multi-task properly!

  4. We don’t get your show here, but Len is the chief judge on our show Strictly Come Dancing which just started on Saturday and Sunday.

He will be exhausted doing both shows! Most week nights there is a ‘behind the scenes’ show and last night Len was a guest on the phone from US – I guess that was what he was doing!

  5. As a devoted DWTS fan (er, geek?) I am thrilled it’s back on. The glitz, the cheese, the fake tan, Maks. Love it all!

Like you, I rooted for Cloris until they had to bleep her. Her potty mouth was not becoming at all.

    Susan. Eat something. Please.

Brooke Burke, Misty May, Toni, were already rockin’. I liked Lance’s partner, but he gives me the heebs.

Still to early to tell too much. Can’t wait for tonight though!

  6. I loved Lance and Lacey. Lacey was a finalist from “So You Think You Can Dance” a couple of years ago. She will bring some youthful spunk to the competition! I also thought Toni Braxton and Brooke Burke were great dancers. Sometimes I think the outfits go overboard on the glitter and popping out boobs. Even my daughter notices!

  7. I totally agree 100% with your thoughts on last night’s show. I came in rooting for Misty May Treanor too. There was definately a lot of potential on the dance floor last night and also some dead weight that can be cut too! Yah, Cloris Leachman, not so classy!

  8. You nailed it. I couldn’t agree more. I really expected Susan to do better than she did, but I was cringing as she was dancing. She was kind of pitiful. I think it should be Cloris or Jeff to go first. (Both this week, would be good actually!) Cloris may get the sympathy vote though. But come on, she’s not going to be able to keep up at all, so she should just go on now before she throws a hip out or something! I was ok while she was dancing, but she totally got on my nerves during the judging. Then the scoring…well, yeah, she just needs to go on home!

  9. You were right @ the send off…but I’ll miss Edyta (so will my hubby, I’m afraid). Every time I watch, I soooo wanna be a celebrity so I can wear the costumes (but I’d need more fabric) and learn how to do THAT!

I don’t know who I’m pullin’ for…gimme a week or so and I’ll letcha know.

And Cloris…oh, dear…downright embarrassing :/ (but kudos for her 82-year-old self workin’ it…).

BTW, I stumbled your clutch give-away; your stumble of my magnolia pictures generated a ton of clicks (though few comments). The traffic was a surprise–I had to find out “why” it happened (hope it helps you, too!).

    🙂

  10. I thought Brooke Burke rocked the house!!! But, Misty is doing awesome, too!!! I missed that show so much! It’s on a LOT though. 3x a week. I might have to have DWTS marathons on weekends to catch up!
