Fall Color Crush: Rust

I think I have a new color obsession. Rust is not a color I typically gravitate to, but it’s trending this fall so it’s everywhere right now . . . And I can’t stop buying it!

I shared this dress in a Try-On Haul last week, so you may have already seen it, but I wanted to play around with it and try a few other shoe options.

Unfortunately these plaid pumps are low inventory, but I think they’re a really great pairing with this dress. Since the dress is solid, the pattern and texture in the pumps really levels up the look.

If you can manage to snag a pair in your size, they’re marked down to $47!!! They’re true to size (I’m wearing my usual 8) and I find them very comfortable and walkable.

Another option is tall suede boots in a warm caramel color.

Mine are Sam Edelmans from the #NSale a year or two ago, but this pair is similar, just with a more pointed toe. You can also find them on Amazon and Nordstrom.

Another option in a lighter shade is this Vince Camuto pair for under $100.

This dress has such pretty details. The curved princess seams, wide neck, and ribbed ottoman fabric all work together to add interest and create a flattering silhouette.

Three-quarter-length sleeves are known to be the most flattering length, and of course they’re also perfect for showing off your arm candy!

Plus, the pockets are positioned in a way that doesn’t created extra bulk or draw undue attention to the hip area.

This dress runs true to size; I’m wearing my usual 8. And if you’re not a fan of rust, it does come in a quite a few other colors, including a classic black.

I carried a shoulder bag in a light shade of camel (or cardamom, as they call it), and I added a few pieces of simple jewelry to complete the look.

I’d wear this outfit to work, church, out to dinner, an event at the kids’ school . . . pretty much anywhere this fall!

  1. I love it paired with the plaid wedges!  You’re right, it adds some needed visual interest (4-point dressing for AYW grads!). I might add a skinny black belt,  it would define the waist, plus tie in the black from the shoes.

  2. That would look cute with a long gold medallion necklace, a chunky short necklace, or a short square scarf. So many options would look great with that fun dress.

  3. Love the shoes but not a fan of this dress, especially the neckline and through the waistline, doesn’t do you justice, imho.

    1. I’m also loving rust for Fall! This dress looks so flattering on you and I like it with all your shoes choices! I’ve got a rust colored sweater and I’m  on the hunt for rust colored jeans.

  4. I love this dress on you with both shoe options, especially the plaid pumps which adds some pizazz to the outfit.  Can you tell us about sizing JoLynne?  I can’t wear rust but it does come in other colors.  Very versatile casual dress.

  5. That color does look nice on you. I like it with the boots:) our power just came on an hour ago so I’ve got lots to catch up on… oh the things we take for granted.
    Have a good one😀

  6. That dress is a perfect fit on you and very flattering! I like both shoe options, but especially the pumps. Also a nice fall color!

  7. You look great in that fabulous dress!  If I had a real need for a dress, I would buy this one.  The plaid pumps are perfect with the dress.  I hope that you have a fabulous day!

  8. The dress fits you perfectly and looks so comfy. A win – win! I love it paired with the plaid heels. I would never pick rust but it looks lovely on you.

  9. Love the post. You look fabulous in this dress Jo-Lynne and I love the color too. The only thing I do not like about it is the price, lol!! I will look elsewhere for this color dress.
    Thank you.

It looks really good with the boots too which I already have. Have a nice afternoon.

  10. Wow!  I love that dress, cut, everything!  And I love it on you!  I clicked over to the Bowden website and I actually think the dress looks a little better on a “real” body (as opposed to the tall, thin models). So I’m excited it will work for me.
As for shoes, my vote is the boots!!  Thanks for sharing this.

  11. Do you ever wear short boots with dresses?  My calves are big and lots of tall boots don’t work for me.  Thank you!!!
