Fall Style with Johnston & Murphy

I’ve always had a thing for shoes. Even before I learned what clothing styles work best for my body type and how to artfully accessorize an outfit, I loved shoe shopping. I’ve always enjoyed trying new styles and pushing the limits a bit. I generally gravitate towards classic styles that have an interesting detail, and while I love a fabulously stylish pair of shoes, comfort is always going to trump all. There’s nothing worse than sore feet at the end of the day.

My husband has long been a fan of Johnston & Murphy footwear for their quality men’s shoe styles, but I had no idea they carried shoes for women until they invited me to partner with them on a fall fashion post. When I received their email, I quickly clicked over to see what their women’s shoe styles were like, and I was thrilled to find a wide variety of classic but stylish shoes and boots for women.

I was able to choose two pairs to style for this post, and it didn’t take me long to narrow my choices down to the Brynn Jodphur Bootie in Espresso Italian Waxed Calfskin and the Isabel Bootie in Black Kid Suede. I knew the Brynn Jodphur Bootie would be perfect for casual fall outfits involving skinny jeans and cozy scarves, and I could easily envision the Isabel Booties with my favorite shift dress and tights.

When the shoes arrived, they were every bit as luxurious in person as they appeared online. My mind immediately went to styling cute outfits, and I even created this flat lay for Instagram with the Jodphur Booties.

Swoon-worthy, right!?!?

The only question that remained was whether or not the comfort factor would equal their style quotient.

The first time I wore the Brynn Jodphur Booties, I styled them with skinny jeans and a cozy scarf.

Blanket scarves are a huge trend this season, and this plaid scarf in tones of brown, pumpkin, teal, yellow, and misty blue is my new bestie.

There’s always a lot of debate as to what to do with the hem of your skinny jeans with ankle boots. The shaft on these ankle boots is higher than most, and the front is a bit higher than the back, so when I tried cuffing my jeans, I didn’t love how it looked, although I suppose it works. I ended up wearing my skinniest skinny jeans and tucking them into the shaft of the boot. Because the jeans fit snugly around the ankle, they don’t bunch or ride up at all. It also helps that they are ankle-length so there’s not a lot of material to tuck in.

Finally, the mustard boyfriend sweater with the brown buttons worked perfectly with the fall hues in the scarf and the deep brown of the booties. I wore a chocolate brown tank underneath and carried a lighter brown clutch.

This outfit just screams fall, doesn’t it!?!

I styled the black suede Isabel Booties two ways. First I wore them with black skinny pants, a colorful blouse, and a black moto jacket. This is the perfect going-out outfit for fall! I like how you can see the detail on the shoes where they don’t quite meet the pants.

I also styled these chic booties with my favorite shift dress and black tights.

I love the overall effect of a long, lean leg-line. Whether I wear them with pants or a dress, these suede booties elevate an outfit and give it a chic but elegant vibe.

  14. Weee so many great choices there! It’s hard to decide 😉 I’m torn between the suzie booties and the dinah wingtip oxfords. In the end, I’d probably go with the Dinah Wingtips in black & white heringbone, as I feel they fill a bigger gap.

Now, I just have to win! =)

  15. The plaid scarf and outfit is gorgeous!! If that outfit was hanging in my closet, I would be wearing it quite often.

  16. I love both the shoes you picked and I’m loving all the outfits on this post! I have a huge shoe love myself and funny story….early on in our marriage my husband actually bought an Elecrolux vacuum storage bench for my shoes so he wouldn’t have to look at them all in the front closet. Anyway I’m drooling over the Jeanie Lace Up Booties

  17. I adore the Brynn Jodphur Bootie with all the fantastic detail especially the flexible rubber sole which grips the pavement and doesn’t slip. I also like that the inside is lined with leather, and they have a cushioned memory-foam insole for extra comfort. This sounds like a bootie that I would get many hours of enjoyment wearing!

  18. I love the Sari boots. They look like the perfect every day boots for fall and winter. I’m a sucker for good leather boots.

  19. I would definitely pick those Brynn Jodphur booties – so cute! Thank you for your wonderful blog. It is inspirational, fun, and it has forced me to think outside my constrictive fashion box 🙂

  20. I would love to win the Brynn Jodphur booties as they are the perfect color for my palette and are Italian leather. That is something that I’ve only come to know because of your blog. It is such an inspiration to a fashion challenged person like me. Thank you Jo-Lynn!
