Neutral Fall Travel Outfit

Good morning! I’m headed home from South Carolina today. It’s been a whirlwind trip and a ton of fun, but I’m ready to get back to my babies and fall in Pennsylvania. I’ll be sharing more about my trip next week, but today I’m sharing the details on this fall travel outfit.

Neutral Fall Travel Outfit: This casual fall travel outfit combines several neutrals that are all pieces I can mix and match with other items in my suitcase while I'm away.

I’ve actually posted a similar outfit before, but I like this neutral variation. The nice thing about wearing so many neutrals is, they all mix and match with other items in my suitcase, so I can (theoretically) pack less and have a nice variety of outfits to wear at my destination. I still always over-pack, but it’s good to have options, yes??

I was tempted to order a new cardigan for this post since I’ve already featured this one a couple of times, but this waffle knit cardigan is still available in all sizes and most of us do wear the same clothes over and over, after all.

We snapped these photos before I left for the airport on Monday morning.

My draped waffle-knit cardigan is one of my favorite wardrobe pieces. It’s so great for throwing on whenever I’m chilly and it goes with practically everything. I always wear it for travel because it’s comfortable and stows easily when I don’t need it. I like that it’s a cotton knit as opposed to a sweater. I also have one in black. This is the Swan, and I’m wearing the Medium.

This Topshop camisole ($30!) is such a great base layer, and it comes in a ton of colors.

Unfortunately, my luggage set is being discontinued. I’m bummed because I’d hoped to get a carry-on size to match. I have two of this 24″ size and one large 28″ one, and I absolutely love this luggage. It’s attractive and so well made, and it’s a little different from anything else on the conveyor belt at baggage claim, so it’s easy to spot.

It’s a Delsey Chatelet Spinner Trolley, and there are some other colors available. Mine is black, but the chocolate is really pretty. I’d be too afraid to get white because it would get marked up so easily, although it’s gorgeous.

The Always On Regan Tote worked out beautifully for my carryon. My laptop fits perfectly in the padded pocket, and the main compartment is nice and roomy for all of my usual purse stuff as well as my iPad and charging cables.

I love that I can quickly slip my large smartphone in the outside pocket (the one on the back is open; no zipper) when I need to stow it quickly. When I want it to be more secure, there are two pockets inside the bag that are large enough to accommodate it as well. It zips up so nothing falls out when it’s stowed under the airplane seat in front of me or going through security.

I accessorized with a Kendra Scott pendant necklace, hoop earrings, and Alex and Ani bangles.

Finally, my Sam Edelman Felicia Flats are my go-to travel shoe. I wear them every time I fly because they’re so comfortable and they go with everything. I almost wore my leopard ones with this, and they looked cute, but I also like how the nude flats bookend this outfit with the neutral tones on top.

  1. I bought the Felicia flats in nude last year after reading your blog. They are amazing and they are my “airport” shoe as well.

  2. This is a perfect travel (or anytime, actually) outfit! It looks so comfy but still so put together. I just got that cami in last week. I’d been needing something just like it for ages. I ordered the 4 and the arm holes are great, but it’s a tad tight in the bust. I do think sizing up would ruin the fit under the arms for me though. Sizing was definitely tricky on this one!
Safe travels back home! I followed on snap, such a beautiful venue and grounds there!

    1. Hey Holli. Glad you like it. I do think it’s made for flat-chested 25-year-olds, haha! But it is so cute, and I love the price point and the double layer so I hope to make one of them work for me. I might have it tailored – brought up just a bit in the shoulders. I’m short waisted so often these tops are a little too long through the straps.

  3. I love the look of the cardigan. That style would work really well at work for me. Lightweight and stylish! Glad you had a great time, but I have to agree, there is no place like home!

  4. Great travel outfit. I am with you on comfort and layers. Excited to see you also have the Topshop camisole. I saw it on another blog and thought it would be a great layering piece. Bought it in 2 colors and awaiting their arrival — hoping not too big now after reading your comments.

  5. Hello! I love your blog and I love your style! I do love the cardigan but I’m petite, 5’2″ and those type of cardigans do not look good on my frame. Can you post some petite friendly options as well.

    Thank you so much!

  6. Love the outfit! I have dark jeans as well and like to put with light tops/sweaters. Do you have any suggestions on how to “set” the dark blue dye in jeans? I have washed several times but it does not seem to help. I’m still ending up with blue sleeves ect ………do you have any tricks?
    Thank you!
