Fall Try On Haul: Nordstrom, Everlane, Amazon, J.Crew, LOFT, and Old Navy

Phew! That’s a lot of retailers in that title. This post is a mash-up of a bunch of items I’ve ordered recently from various shops, so there’s no real theme here, but I did find some goodies!

Let’s dive right in.

Fall Try On Haul: Nordstrom, Everlane, Amazon, J.Crew, LOFT, and Old Navy

For size reference, I’m 5’5″ and about 140#. I typically wear a small in tops, 6 or 8 (28 or 29) in pants and jeans, and an 8 in dresses. All descriptions are below the pictures.

Nordstrom Try-On Haul

Chelsea28 V-Neck Pullover (size S) // This top is a gorgeous color, but I fear it didn’t photograph quite right. It’s actually a really deep raspberry pink — not as bright as it’s showing here.

It’s 40% off, so sizes are selling out, but it’s a nice one for dressing up or down, and it could definitely work for more casual holiday gatherings.

I don’t know why it looks so long on the model. It has a 22 1/2″ length measurement, and I’d say that is accurate. I’m wearing it untucked.

KUT from the Kloth Donna Stretch Corduroy Ankle Skinny Pants (size 8) // They call these corduroy, but they look and feel like velvet to me. The light grey is pretty, and I think they could be dressed up for the holidays, although I’m not crazy about them paired with this pink sweater.

They have a pretty good fit, but I did need to size up from my normal Kut from the Kloth size. I usually take a 6, but I needed an 8 in these.

Chelsea28 Shadow Stripe Velvet Tank Top (size S) // This top is really fun for holiday, and it’s a nice quality. I like that it’s fully lined. It has the v-neckline in both front and back, which is a nice touch, and it’s regular bra friendly, so yay for that!

Size-wise, if you’re smaller chested, it’s probably true to size, but I would need a medium to be comfortable. It looks okay but it felt tight across the chest. This top is 24 1/2″ long, and I have it front-tucked.

Halogen Lace & Crepe Blouse (size S) // This is a great top for more conservative holiday looks and for everyday wear. This color definitely seems more festive to me than the rest, but there are like 8 or 9 to choose from.

This top is true to size, I’m very comfortable in the small, and I have it front-tucked as well. It’s 27″ long, so it definitely needs to be tucked all around, or front-tucked.

BP. Keep Me Warm Sweatshirt (size M) // I saw this sweatshirt at Nordstrom when we were shopping last week, and the second I felt it, I had to have it. Talk about soft and cozy… yum!

I didn’t want to bother trying it on, so I grabbed the medium to be sure I had some comfort room. I could probably size down, but I like the fit of the medium.

Paige Jeans Five-Pocket Ankle Jeans (size 29) // These are a good classic mid-wash skinny jean, and they’re very comfortable. I really like the rear pocket placement and the way they shape the rear-view.

The rise on these is a little low for today’s styles, so I sent them back. It says 9″ on the website, but they seem lower. Still, a solid choice if you prefer a lower rise.

Wit & Wisdom Tie Sleeve Sweater (size S) // I love this top for fall, and it’s a nice option for those who live in warmer climates.

It’s probably not cozy enough for my current weather, but I love the styling, the rolled hem, the tie cuffs, and the wide neckline. The color is also a gorgeous cool shade of brown. It’s TTS.

Chelsea28 Balloon Sleeve Top (size S) // This is a cute top. The v-neck is a flattering shape, and I love the peplum, but it runs reeeeeeally small. I couldn’t even zip it up, so I would definitely need a medium.

It only comes in this burgundy rust color, which would be great for Thanksgiving, but you could definitely keep wearing it all winter.

Court & Rowe Sequin Cheers Sweater (size S) // This is the perfect sweater for New Years Eve! It’s also a nice quality, and I like the sequin appliqué. It’s TTS; the small fits perfectly.

Madewell Kent Cardigan in Heather Crimson (size S) // I know, more rust! #sorrynotsorry

I’m a huge fan of the Madewell Kent cardigan, it’s a really nice quality, but it runs big. You definitely want to size down.

BP. Chunky Pointelle Sweater (size S) // Yes, another “Thanksgiving sweater” — I was on a roll, wasn’t I??? But this sweater is such a pretty color for fall gatherings.

I really like the pointelle design and lantern sleeves on this sweater, but it’s also a little scratchy, to bear that in mind. It runs true to size, and could also be dressed up or down.

Old Navy Slouchy Turtleneck Sweater (size S) // This is such a pretty color for fall, but it sold out. Boo.

They do have it in a really pretty pink multi and a grey marl, and it’s 40% off the $45 markdown price. It has a nice, relaxed fit, and I love the slouchy turtleneck.

This sweater runs TTS; I’m wearing the small. Here it is styled with a vest and booties, for a fun outfit idea…

Everlane Try-Ons

Everlane The Trainer Avenue // Everlane just introduce sneakers to their lineup of sustainable fashion basics, and I ordered a couple pairs to try because I’m already thinking ahead to what I’ll wear in Paris next spring, and I’ve been thinking I’d like to have a pair of black sneakers that will hold up to a lot of walking.

This is the Avenue style, and they are supremely comfortable. Like, I didn’t want to take them off. I wore them all day after trying them on, and my feet were so happy!

I also really like this “Raven” color — it’s not really black, more of a deep grey, but compare it to the stark black pair below. I really like this softer tone. They’re TTS for sneakers, I have the 8,5.

Everlane The Trainer Core // This is a very similar style, and I’m not even sure what the difference is, but they didn’t feel QUITE as comfortable to me as the Avenue style. Plus I just liked the other color better.

Either one is a great shoe — they have an upscale athletic vibe that appeals to me.

Everlane The ReCashmere Varsity Cardigan (size S) // I guess I really have a thing for rust and burgundy right now! This sweater is BEAUTIFUL, I really love it. But it’s just a little too small — the buttons gape a little so I need to get the medium instead.

Wearing a cardigan buttoned up like this is trending at the moment, and I really like it because it’s basically a v-neck, which is my favorite neckline — and one that hard to find right now.

I also just like the detailing to the knit, plus it’s super soft and high quality, as it should be for the price.

Because it’s a cropped style, it needs a higher rise jean….

See how much better it looks with these jeans? It barely covers the waistband of my black AG legging ankle jeans above, but it’s perfect with my Good Americans — they have an 11″ rise.

LOFT Try-Ons: Save 40% off with code EVERYTHING

LOFT is running another sale: save 40% off full price styles and an additional 50% off sale styles with code EVERYTHING. That includes C’s poncho from yesterday. (If you ordered it yesterday, you can probably can get a price adjustment.)

LOFT Cable Poncho (size XS/S) // This poncho is very soft and thicker than some, so good for colder weather. The cable knit and fringe details add interest, and the turtleneck is loose enough to be comfortable, but still holds its shape.

LOFT Shimmer V-Neck Sweater (size S) // I’ve actually photographed this for the blog, so consider this a sneak peek.

This sweater is really pretty, so nice for holiday because it’s as comfortable as a sweater you’d wear for everyday, but the shimmery threads in the knit make it holiday-appropriate. It’s very comfortable (not itchy) and true to size.

LOFT Turtleneck (size S) // This sweater is very soft and comfortable, and I love the marled pink knit. The ribbed trim and relaxed cowl are great details — very well designed. Love this one!

LOFT High Waist Corduroy Skinny Pants (size 6) // These cords are a little thin for my comfort zone, and the rear pockets are rather large. Some people like that, but I feel like they flatten things out back there.

Other than that, they fit nicely, and they’re comfortable, but I would prefer a darker color. They run a little big; size down if in between.

LOFT Reindeer Sweater (size S) // I think this sweater is so whimsical and fun. It’s also soft and comfortable, and it looks and feels like good quality. It’s TTS; the small fits perfectly.

J.Crew Sale: 25% off with code PARTY

J.Crew Tartan scarf // How pretty is this scarf!?! I love that it’s soft and not scratchy (some are.) It’s currently 25% off at J.Crew, and it comes in 2 other plaids.

J.Crew Cocoon coat in Italian stadium-cloth wool size 8 // I’ve shared this coat before, but it’s 25% off so I wanted to speak to the quality and comfort.

I absolutely love this coat, and it comes in tons of colors. The grey has been a nice addition to my closet, since most of my coats are black. It has that cocoon shape, so it’s perfect for putting on over bulky items, like ponchos and heavy sweaters.

It’s TTS, or size up if in between. The size 8 fits me perfectly.

Amazon Fashion Finds

Mae Thermal Henley Jogger Pajamas (size M) // Okay, I realize this is quite a switch! I hope the pajama pictures didn’t alarm you. I ordered these from Amazon because the print caught my eye, and they’re super cute.

The material is weird, though — very stiff on the outside, but soft and comfortable on the inside. I think I could get used to it, but I do prefer my pajamas to be soft inside and out.

Also, they run verrrrry small. The bottoms are okay, but the top is definitely too small. I would need a large.

Goodthreads Women’s Modal Fleece Popover Sweatshirt Dress (size M) // Now, this dress, I love! Unlike the pajamas, this dress is super soft both inside and out, and it’s a really nice thick modal-fleece blend.

I love the fit throughout — it’s a shift, so it doesn’t exactly show off my curves, but I think it’s cute in a casual, laid-back sort of way. The elasticized hem and cuffs is a fun detail.

I didn’t have quite the right sneakers to put with it, so I tried it with my snake print slip-ons. I think solid black would be better.

Lark & Ro Sleeveless V-neck Gathered Faux Wrap Dress (size 8) // I don’t normally order dresses from Amazon, but this one caught my eye, and I’ve liked the Lark & Ro brand in the past for sweaters.

For the price point, this is a nice piece. It’s comfortable, the faux wrap style can be dicey, but this one is flattering and offers the coverage I need.

Yes, it’s sleeveless, but if you live in a warmer area of the country, you might like that. Florals grounded on a dark background is very on-trend at the moment, and you can throw a leather jacket or cardigan on top if you need extra warmth.

Amazon Essentials Studio Terry Long-Sleeve Convertible Hood Shirt (size M) // I don’t wear a lot of sweatshirts, but this one is really good – I love the cut, the way it hangs straight at the waist and has the slit sides. It’s also super duper soft.

The hood is a bit heavy, is the only thing, but I can overlook it. Very cute for weekend or going to your kids’ (or grandkids’) ballgames. I like the fit of the medium, so I’d size up if in between.

Orolay Women’s Thickened Down Jacket (size S) // Okay, I had to try it.

If you’ve been living under a rock, this is The Amazon Coat (it even has its own Instagram handle.)

Honestly, I thought it was ugly as all get-out last year, but this year I was kind of drawn to it, and I figured I’d at least try it for you in the name of research.

I will say this much, it is WARM. Definitely fun, if you like to be trendy. Supposedly it’s one of the most wished for holiday gifts, so if you know someone who likes to be on trend, there you go! I’d say it’s TTS or size down if in between. The small is fine, as long as I unzipped the sides a bit.

And that’s a wrap! Whew!!!! If I forgot anything, drop a question in the comments, and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.

  1. Lol, I ordered the Kut corduroys last week in navy! I’ve found corduroy in general to run small, so I did size up. Hopefully they fit. (And I don’t need to size up even more.) I tried the Amazon coat last year, and maybe it’s because I’m so short, but my husband and I agreed that it did NOT look good on me. It does look nice on you, and I like the navy.

I really like the slouchy turtleneck from Old Navy. I may have to check out the other colors, if that one is still sold out. Otherwise, I really have been trying to pare down my closet and donate things I don’t wear.

  2. Oh my goodness….all these rust sweaters are calling to me!  I do love the poncho that Caroline wore as, well.  So cute on her!  The sweatshirt from Amazon is speaking to me as well.  So many fun things today!

  3. I’m thinking of ordering the Everlane trainers but am confused by the reviews. Most say to size up 1/2 or even a full size then others say tts. What is your take?

  4. Great try on session… I’m still not sure about all the hype around the amazon jacket… I’m curious as to whether or not your keeping it?
    Enjoy your conference

  5. Try ECCO sneakers, I just bought a pair and they are wonderfully comfortable, you could walk around Paris all day!

  6. I really liked the Paige jeans on you. Loved the brown Wit & Wisdom shirt. The Cheers shirt looked great and I liked seeing the Amazon coat. Not sure if I get the fuss over it but thanks for modeling it for us.

  7. Tell me more about the reindeer sweater. A couple years ago I bought a similar LOFT reindeer sweater, wore it once and was sooooo uncomfortable that the next day I threw it in the Goodwill donation pile in my garage.

The arms were really tight, it was really warm, and really scratchy. I remember wearing it to work the day before winter break for my class holiday party, and I ran the air conditioning at 68 all day because I felt so overheated.

😄 With that said, I love a cute holiday top, and this one looks good in your pics. Is it soft, lightweight, and cozy?

    1. I tried this reindeer sweater on in the store and could not take it off fast enough – I am sensitive to wool and found it to be very itchy and tight. sorry – I didn’t find this one to be soft at all

  8. Wow what a haul!!!
My question is did you keep everything or return some?

I am loving all the fall colors and trends this year!!!

I can’t wait to get my reindeer 🦌 sweater, it looks so cute on you!!

    Have a blessed day!!

    Cindy

  9. Well, good thing I can always count on you to pull me out from under my rock! I can’t say I like the coat, but maybe now I’ll remember to be impressed if anyone I know gets it for Christmas. Thanks for all of the try-ons! It’s so much easier for me to shop this way bc you always tell us how things feel. That and we can rely on you not to strike some weird pose that obscures how the item looks. Thank you. This must have left you sore from trying on so many things!

  10. The Loft turtleneck how does it run.  Some of the reviews say it runs small.  Sleeves are short and it’s tight in the tummy area.  What are your thoughts?
