Fancy Tuna Salad Recipe

Fancy Tuna Salad with Sir Kensington's Mayonnaise

I’ve long been a fan of tuna salad, but my usual “recipe” consists of just canned tuna and mayo. That’s how my mom always made it, and it’s how my kids like it, so usually I don’t bother to do much else.

But I love going to a nice restaurant for lunch and ordering a fancy tuna salad with herbs and fun flavors and textures so when Sir Kensington’s sent me some of their gourmet mayonnaise to try, I decided it was just itching to be put into a fancier tuna salad. I decided to try my hand at one that was worthy of this new condiment!

First, a word about Sir Kensington’s. We all know that the mainstream store brands of mayo aren’t good for you. They all contain soybean or canola oils, so I often buy organic to avoid the GMOs. But even non-GMO soy oils aren’t really good for you. The diehard real foodies make their own with olive oil, but I have never wanted to bother so I just make do with what I figure is the lesser of the evils. (I like Trader Joe’s brand; it tastes the most like Kraft and Hellman’s. I detest Miracle Whip, and the other organic brands I’ve tried have that sweet taste that I associate with MW. Bleh.)

ANYWHO. Sir Kensington’s offered to send me samples of their gourmet ketchup and mayo, so I happily agreed. Here is what they have to say about it.

Sir Kensington’s is known for their all-natural ketchup line handcrafted from whole tomatoes and featuring ingredients such as honey, raw sugar, apple cider vinegar, lime juice and spices. As a result, Sir Kensington’s has 50% less sugar and 45% less sodium versus other national brands. It’s currently available in two flavors – Classic and Spiced.

The brand is also launching a new Non-GMO Project Verified mayonnaise line – Sir Kensington’s Gourmet Scooping Mayonnaise just in time for the summer. Available in Classic and Chipotle flavors, both mayo’s feature sunflower oil, cage free eggs and are gluten-free. Even better, they have 33% less saturated fat versus the leading national brand.

You can imagine how excited I was to hear about this! They sent me full size samples of each variety to try.

Sir Kensington's Ketchup and Mayonnaise

The first thing we did was serve them on grilled hamburgers. Everyone loved the ketchup. My husband prefers the Spiced, and the kids like the regular. I don’t do ketchup on burgers, but I did try the Chipotle Mayonnaise. Now I am addicted to Sir Kensington’s Chipotle Mayonnaise on my hamburgers. I won’t use anything else. It’s phenomenal. The creaminess of the mayo enhances the moisture of the burgers, and the spices give it a kick. Here’s the ingredients list. So pure, you could make this at home.

The regular mayo is good too. It has so much more flavor than any other mayo I’ve ever tried, but it’s not sweet at all. When I went to make my fancy tuna salad last week, I immediately went for my Sir Kensington’s.

I chopped up some onion really fine.

And some fresh parsley.

I mixed it all together — the can of tuna (solid white albacore, always!) with 1/4 cup Sir Kensington’s mayonnaise, a tablespoon of the finely chopped sweet onion, a tablespoon of the chopped parsley, and the final gourmet touch — a tablespoon of capers! (The tablespoons are approximate — I might have used a bit less than that.)

I adore capers. I have no idea what they are, but I love them. They take any ordinary dish up a notch or three.

I plated it on a bed of fresh lettuce and served it with a side of grapes.

  1. Looks delightful! I don’t do storebought mayo because of the vegetable oils. I actually tried my hand at homemade last week and my family loves it. Beginners luck I guess. I’m sure the next several batches will fail 😉

  2. Hi Jo love your blog. Where can u get that
Mayo??? Also need to get off nexiium do u know any naturopathic drs in Chicago area? Also what is the apple cider vinegar recipe?

    1. Hi Linda. If you click on the link, you can order it on their site. You can also get it at Whole Foods and other places – they list them on their site too. 🙂

I do not know of anyone in Chicago. Ask around, and I hope you find someone.

There is no recipe. Just make sure to buy Organic Apple Cider Vinegar (Braggs is the one most people use) and then I mix 1 TBSP into a cup of water. Good luck!

  3. Mmm, capers. I usually just do tuna, mayo, and dill relish (I’m slightly addicted to dill pickles). Our cafeteria at the place where I used to work had the BEST tuna, though. And on a wrap with cucumber and spinach it was sooo good. I wish I had asked what they put in it.

  4. How wonderfully timed! I just bought some tuna this morning as my son and I have been craving that simple tuna salad for lunch. We usually just go with tuna, mayo, and garlic salt. Adding some onions (not sure about the parsley, though…) and maybe some celery will kick up our salad when I make it. Thank you for the great ideas!! Oh, and yes, grapes go with almost anything! LOL
