Farewell to thee, dear summer!

I am always so conflicted at this time of year.  I love the crisp fall air and the colorful leaves and the pumpkins and the mums.

But it is a bittersweet hello because I do not relish saying good-bye to summer — well, to most of it anyway.  There is not much I dislike about summer.

I love the heat.

I love the lazy schedule.

I love the colorful flowers and the singing of the birds.

I love being able to go running before everyone else wakes up, and it’s light outside.

I love going out without bundling up first.

I love telling the kids to go hop in the car, without waiting 20 minutes for them to don their winter apparel.

I love flip flops.

And tank tops.

I love that it is light until 9pm at night and that the sun greets me when I wake up at 5:30am.

But there are two things I do not like about summer:

FLIES and IRONING.

The flies should be self-explanatory.  But what does ironing have to do with summer, you ask?

Well, I’ll tell you.

Little girls’ dresses.

And I have two of them — little girls, that is.  And they each have at least 10 summer dresses with various degrees of wrinkling tendencies.

This, I will not miss:

  1. An iron? That is what I use for those rare moments that we do crafts involving wax paper and dry leaves. Which means my ironing season (if you can call it that) is just beginning 😉

  2. It is times like this I am happy to have all boys…I only have to iron for the occasional school event where shirt & tie is the required attire.

  3. My 4 year old saw an ironing board in our hotel closet at the beach and was so excited that they were giving us our own surfboard!
I very seldom ever iron. I wash the dresses and hang them on hangers to dry. (and have very nice results) I know they’ll be all wrinkled up after a few minutes in the car seats anyway. You are a better woman than I am!

  4. I totally get that – I don’t put the girls’ dresses in the dryer because the sunlight helps to get dirt and stains out so I constantly have ironing to do. One perk with living at my parents’ house though is that my grandmom does all the ironing for me. Sweet!

  5. Our house is a no-iron zone unless my hubs does the ironing. I hate ironing. If any of my clothing is only mildly wrinkled, I just spritz it with a spray bottle of water and that almost always does the trick.

  6. Wow, I give you a round of applause for ironing your daughters dresses! I don’t have the patience for it and because of that my two girls live through the summer in shorts and t-shirts.

  7. ironing? really? poor Kenzie has never had one article of clothing ironed. by me or anyone else! my kids are wrinkled! and she wears dresses all the time….. just don’t wash those fancy ones and the rest are cotton and the wrinkles just add a touch of charm 🙂
