Fashion Over 40 #ootd

This week’s been a little up and down weather-wise, but I’ve officially switched over my closet from winter to spring so there’s no going back now! Do you rotate your closet with each change of season? Here is a post I wrote about how I do it: 10 Steps To Organize Your Closet.

I have to admit, I start to feel like these posts get a little bit old, so I’m always thrilled for the change of season so I can try out some new looks!! As much as I love boots and sweaters, I am not sad to pack them away.

Here’s what I wore this week, with the exception of a few really lazy days that I spent at home wearing my gym clothes. Yes, even I have those days!!

I was not paid for this post, however, as always most links are compensated affiliate links.

One of my favorite new outfits this season, this striped sweater with its muted color palette and relaxed styling is super comfortable and so easy to wear with these mid-wash jeans {similar}. I wore my pink stone stretch bracelet set from LOFT and added the orange flats for fun.

Stripes and Jeans

When I went to take my daughter to an orthodontist appointment, I threw on my utility jacket {similar}.

That night I was going out with some girlfriends so I switched into my khaki moto jeans and threw on some heels. I also washed my hair, wasn’t that an improvement!? LOL!!!

I got the Paige Premium Edgemont moto jeans in desert khaki on sale at Zappo’s. I love them.

Splendid Striped Sweater with Khaki Moto Jeans & Green Satchel

I carried my favorite green R Minkoff Cupid Satchel. It’s no longer available, as I bought it on a clearance sale last spring, but I’ll show some alternative options below. A green bag, surprisingly, goes with so many outfits. I haven’t regretted this purchase one bit.

I wore this next outfit to accompany my daughter’s 2nd grade class on a field trip. It was a dreary, damp, rainy day but I refused to give in to the temptation to pull out my boots! I did, however, pull this color-block sweater from the back of my closet. Somehow I forgot about it for most of the winter. Plus, it’s very thin and we’ve had a cold winter so there hasn’t been a lot of opportunity to wear it. It’s perfect for spring and fall, though! I got it at Banana Republic, so it’s no longer available, but they always have a nice selection of sweaters to choose from if you’re in the market.

Pardon the dog in the photo. She would NOT leave me alone. My Taos Untold ballet flats were comfortable to walk in all day, and the slim profile of my Lexington Shopper was perfect for a cramped school bus ride, lol. The necklace is from Studio jewel, the earrings from Ten Thousand Villages, and the silver link bracelet is an oldie but goodie by D Yurman, a gift from my sweet hubby one Christmas many moons ago (before braces and college funds were looming, ha!)

On Saturday, I wore my LOFT boyfriend jeans with this gray/lilac honeycomb sweater that I also picked up during the 25% off Friends & Family event a few weeks ago. But you’re in luck because now it’s 50% off!!!

I layered it over a lilac-colored tank because it’s rather see-though, and I wore my Stella & Dot pendant necklace to break up the monotony of the solid color.

It wasn’t warm enough for flip-flops, but I didn’t care. I am so done with boots!!! I wore these Reef Women’s Krystal Star Wedge Sandal because they are so so comfy, and I feel like boyfriend jeans look better with some height in the shoe.

Yesterday I wore my camo jeans, and for fun I tried them with a coral t-shirt from LOFT. Usually I wear them with a neutral (white, black or gray) but I thought they looked more springy with this coral tee. The necklace and earrings are from Silpada, and I wore my knotted bangle set from C. Wonder.

Right now the Sunwashed Tees at LOFT are marked down to $12. It comes in a ton of spring shades, and I am telling you, the fit is fabulous. I bought a medium, which was a bit roomy but is perfect now that I’ve washed it and dried it. I’m about to order a few more. (Mine is “delicate pink” but it seems more coral to me.)

The Toms Desert Booties are a nice transition-season shoe, and I threw on my denim jacket when I went out to run some errands. You can’t go wrong with denim and camo!

And to keep it real, I wore this outfit all day Monday and also most of Sunday afternoon. I love my Teal Lizzy Zip-Up from Evy’s Tree (sent to me as a sample.) For a limited time, get 15% off at Evy’s Tree with code HOUSEWIFE15!!!!

Evy's Tree Teal Zip-Up with Fabletics Leggings

It’s perfect with these lima flex capri leggings, a sample sent from Fabletics (more about them in a future post). The sneakers are the Mizuno Wave Rider 17, which I received from a campaign with FitFluential. I bought an insert for them at the running store, and they are my go-to wear-around-the-house-and-out-and-about sneakers right now. They have just the right amount of support and stability for my finicky feet.

  1. Love your easy, classic, kid-friendly mom style! I would wear everything you posted! My husband is in the military, so we already have an abundance of Camo in our closet, but I still think it’s fun to try sometimes. 🙂

  2. Maybe it’s just the spring clothing and no more winter bulky clothes – BUT – you look like you’ve lost weight (and no way, did I think you ever looked like you needed too, LOL).

    1. LOL, well, I got super disciplined and lost 4 lbs in one week (I KNOW!) and kept it off for about a week and then over the weekend it crept back up a few. So I’m trying to get back on track. This 40-year-old metabolism is for the birds!!!

  3. I like all of these outfits. The Gap camo pants didn’t fit me at all but Loft has some now in Curvy fit which would fit me. So I mentioned it out loud with my son in the room…I’m 50 he’s 22. He said no but what does he know! Maybe I’ll do it anyway. 🙂

I really like the workout outfit too. I’ve been going to Zumba three times a week and need to add to my workout clothes. Oh mercy my feet are hurting. Have to work on that too.

  4. Love the outfits…but really I am totally in love with the green RM bag and the gray bag. Question for you…do you have a purse insert or other organizer that you just transfer from bag to bag? I keep wondering if I would ever use one of those as much as I change bags!

  5. I live in New Zealand so my seasons are the opposite of yours. I am enjoying your spring inspiration because it comes in handy when planning my now autumnal wardrobe. I am really struggling to remember what I wore this time last year. I still have my summer stuff out because it will still get some wear even if it is layered!

  6. I do rotate my clothes too. I keep it down to an 18 gallon tote, when the tote is overflowing when packing up a season, its time to sort & donate-ruthlessly.

I love the coral w/the camo!

I love mizunos. they are my running shoe as well as my all day shoe right now. what kind of insert did you get?
