Fashion Over 40 #OOTD at Musings of a Housewife

Welcome to Daily Mom Style, where I share my favorite outfits from the week and link up with some fabulous fashion roundups around the web. I hope you find some fashion inspiration, or just some encouragement here. Not every outfit is high style, and many are similar because this is real life I’m living here. When I find something that works, I’ll stick with it rather than trying to reinvent the wheel every day. But I definitely find that taking the time to get dressed and throw on some makeup makes all the difference in how I feel and my level of productivity during the day.

There are also some GREAT sales and deals going on around the Web right now… 40% off at LOFT, 25% off at ShopBop, and many items on sale at Nordstrom. I have included them in this post in bold italics where relevant to the item I’m linking to.

So without further ado . . . here is what I wore this week.

I wore my khaki moto jeans to church on Sunday (this was actually 2 weeks ago, but whatev!) with this coral blouse.

I love these colors together, although I’m not sure I love the zippers on the jeans with the blouse. It feels like a lot going on somehow.

It was a chilly day so I threw on my teal trench.

As usual, I will provide links where I can in case your interested in purchasing any of the items I’m wearing. Most are compensated affiliate links. If you’re not sure what the heck that means, you can read more about it here. Most items I purchased myself, but where a PR sample was provided, I will tell you so.

The Paige Edgemont Ultra Skinny jeans I’m wearing above are on sale at 6pm.com, but these Super Skinny Moto Jeans from LOFT are similar and even cheaper. AND RIGHT NOW everything at LOFT is 40% off!!! Use code 4PEEPS at checkout.

The blouse is by Lucky Brand, and I picked it up at a local shop last spring. Definitely one of my better purchases last year!! The brown pumps and teal trench are what I like to call vintage LOFT. Ha! They were seriously purchased about 10 years ago, but they’re still going strong! The necklace is Stella & Dot and the bracelet is from Francesca’s.

I wore this outfit on Friday night to play bingo at the local firehall . . . something I never thought I would hear myself say! Yes, I am officially a grannie.

The scarf is from the LOFT outlet, and the bracelet stack was a PR sample from Joseph Nogucci. My favorite shoes to pair with my boyfriend jeans (right now at 40% off at LOFT) are these Romy Wedge Sandals (ON SALE at Nordstrom for 25% off!!) So so so cute. The snakeskin belt was a Francesca’s purchase. I love how it seems to go with everything for spring.

FYI… the LOFT Boyfriend Jeans run large. I actually ended up buying a 4 (unheard of for me, I am normally an 8.)

Jeez, who needed a pedicure. Fortunately I remedied that situation the very next day.

I love how easy breezy this outfit is. It just goes to show, a great pair of jeans and a white tee only needs a scarf or a piece of statement jewelry to go from plain to cute!

Case in point, this simple outfit I wore to our church bible study on Sunday night — same white GAP tee (RIGHT NOWget 40% off full-priced Tops and Shirts at GAP with code TOPS, online only, ends tonight) with medium-wash skinny jeans and a fun statement necklace and sandals in a similar bold pink color.

White T-Shirt with Jeans and Statement Necklace

I believe I picked up this necklace at the J.Crew Outlet last summer.

See? New pedicure. Much improved, yes? These Dabney Thong Sandals are a couple years old, but if you google them, you may find them on eBay or Amazon in various colors. I really love them, they have a nice cushy sole.

Lucky Brand sandals

I wore this outfit to meet some of my PSMM gals for lunch.

I love this khaki Glam Jacket and cobalt Pleat Neck Top from WHBM. I wore my favorite dressy jeans and my Milly Wedge Pumps in Sandstone (25% off at Nordstrom!!) since they matched the jacket.

I tried my Splendid Striped sweater (25% off at SHOPBOP!!!!!) with my boyfriend jeans and Milly wedge pumps. I realize a more pointed toe pump would be more flattering, and I’m not sure I’d wear it with these shoes again. I think the Romy sandals (shown above) work better with the boyfriend jeans. Live and learn, right???

I do love the sweater, though, and I’m bummed that I paid full price and now it’s ON SALE! Boo. The bracelet stack is from LOFT and is also on their 40% off sale right now.

You know, these posts are awfully long. I wonder sometimes if it would be better to do shorter posts, focusing on a certain fashion theme, or just one outfit. I could do more throughout the week, and I would be choosier about what outfits I share. Any thoughts on that? I’m wide open to feedback!

Cuz, believe it or not, I’m not done yet. I dug out this chevron maxi skirt to wear to church on Sunday (this week, I know, it sounds like I’m there all the time!)

It was starting to feel like spring, and I thought this would be fun for a change. This skirt was sent to me for a sponsored campaign with ADORNit a few months back. The necklace and earrings are from Studio Jewel. I believe the earrings were a PR sample, but I bought the long mixed metal necklace. It is one of my all-time faves; I particularly like how the copper discs draw out the copper details in the denim jacket.

I always like a maxi skirt with a tank and a denim jacket. I just don’t think you can go wrong with that combination! Get a cropped denim jacket like this one at LOFT, and it is also 40% off right now!!!!

Finally (yes, there IS an end in sight!) I wore this dress to an event on Monday where I got to hear Katie Couric speak. So fabulous. I love her.

I love navy and white stripes for spring. The spring green bag creates a pretty contrast, and the nude shoe keeps the look up to date. Everything about this outfit is old and no longer available for purchase, but navy and white is such a classic spring look that I found a few alternative options in case you’re interested.

  1. Don’t shorten your Wednesday posts! I look forward to them every week and love that you have lots of outfits to peruse. I love your springy styles this week…but I guess you’d better pack your flip flops away for a few days. 🙁 Going back to wintery weather after the amazing spring weather in the last week is a harsh blow.

  2. I totally agree with the comment above! I stumbled upon your blog last week and am hooked!! These are my favorite posts….love your style!

  3. Please keep the Wednesday fashion post — it’s fun seeing what outfits you’ve worn !! You could show more on other days to keep Wednesday shorter, but I think you’ll find everyone enjoys the outfits posts.

You’re brave – I’ve not worn any skirts yet, still cold in Ohio and yesterday we just had the dreaded S word — yep, SNOW 🙁

  4. I agree — I like the Wednesday fashion posts and seeing a variety of outfits! Believe it or not, the outfits here that inspired me the most are the ones with the white tee and jeans that can be made fun with a cute scarf or colorful necklace for a pop of color! So easy to do and for some reason, it is not something I think of often!

  5. Jo-Lynne I love these posts and want you to come style me for every day fashion. I type that as I’m sitting at my desk in jeans and fleece. As a work at home Mom raising 3 competitive athletes my life is lived at ball fields, tennis courts, and gyms so its beyond easy to choose comfort over fashion. Thanks for reminding me I have options if I want them =)

    1. Aw thanks you are so sweet. There are SO MANY cute activewear styles right now, I think even if you live an athletic life you have a ton of cute casual options. 🙂 In fact, some days I wonder why I bother putting on jeans at all. And some days I don’t, lol. Some days I feel just as cute in flattering yoga pants and a colorful fleece half-zip as I do in dressy jeans and a blazer. In other words, I think you can have comfort AND fashion! 🙂 And I’m sure you do. You are adorable, my friend!! xo

  6. Yes, please keep showing all of your outfits. Seeing all the variety has helped me so much to branch out and add style to my wadrobe. Love your blog!!! Keep up the great work!

  7. I just recently started reading your blog, too & I love it. Just now realized that Wed.’s are the days you share what you wore. LOL 😉 (It takes me awhile to catch on) I’ll now look forward to Wednesdays ! But I love your blog overall! Your outfits are GREAT–and I love that maxi skirt! What are some other shirts that can be worn with maxis ? I just bought my very 1st one. 😀

  8. Long posts are good! I like that this is a “real” world fashion column, not just highlights of the most fashionable, stylish things you wore. Seems more real that way, imo. And in all honesty, I love seeing weeks that you post days in yoga pants & some cute tennis shoes! I always love seeing the down to earth side of folks.
Anyhoo … I have to say, you have a real knack for wearing pants that fit beautifully. Fit perfectly but are not too tight or loose, just very flattering. And those Milly Wedge pumps in nude … omg I’d kill for those!! You’re not doing a giveaway for a pair, are you?!?!

    1. That is an interesting observation considering that I just left White House Black Market totally bummed b/c I did not like they way their slacks fit me. If you notice, ALL my pants are jeans. Jeans fit me well but pants are difficult. And dresses are even worse. There are so many factors with dresses, either they’re too lowcut or the waist is too low, or they’re tight in the bust but loose in the hips or they’re too short or too long… and on it goes. LOL. Dresses confound me, which is why I wear them so rarely. I do love a well fitting pant. Perhaps a post topic for another week… 🙂

And the nude wedges… that was my consolation prize for not being able to wear nude ballet flats, which I really want, but they don’t have enough support for my stupid feet.

  9. Love your posts! Don’t make them shorter. I tried those boyfriend jeans on at the loft and was bummed they just do not fit me. They were tight in the legs and huge In the waist and hip area enough I did not need to unbutton them to take them on and off. I was so hopeful. I ended up finding a pair of Paige cropped boyfriend jeans. So all good in the end. Just no loft bottoms this year since they all fit that way on me. Crazy since I got a lot there last year.

    1. Glad you found something that worked!! They are big in the waist, probably why I like them. I find that usually pants that fit in the legs/butt are tight in my waist. 🙂

  10. Agree! Don’t shorten your fashion posts – they are my favorite too! I love, love, love the chevron skirt and jean jacket outfit…so cute!

  11. This has been one of my favorite fashion weeks! The outfits are great! And I personally don’t mind the length of the posts on Wednesday. I like hearing where you wore each one as it gives inspiration for my own wardrobe. Our church is “dressier” than yours but a lot of the other things are perfect for activities I would also have. Thanks for taking time to share with us!

  12. oooh, I just found you via orgjunkie, and I absolutely love this post. I’m a mom of two and really looking for fashion inspiration. Keep the posts long with tons of outfits!!!

  13. Please don’t stop showing us your outfits! I love everything on your blog, but I’ve gotten inspiration from many of your outfits. You looked great in everything, but my favorite was the ADORNit skirt. You looked fabulous in that!

  14. I love these posts as well, and look forward to them every week!! Please, please keep them!

All these outfits are great, but I especially love the chevron skirt. And the wedges – they are gorgeous.

  15. LOVE the Romy sandals — how comfy are they? I already have a few things in my Nordy’s cart, might have to add those as well!

PS — Pleeeeease don’t lose the fashion posts, they’re my favorite part!
