You know what’s CRAY!? Tomorrow is May. WHERE does the time go? I mean it. WHERE? Despite that, we are still dealing with unpredictable spring weather here in PA, and I am trying not to let it make me cranky. Although I haven’t had to break out the boots again this week so that’s a plus, yes?

Here’s what I’ve been wearing this week. As always, I’m using affiliate links to connect you with the items that are still available for purchase in case you’re interested. You don’t pay any extra, and it helps me offset the cost of running this site. (So thank you!!)

Don’t miss the Macy’s semi-annual Friends & Family sale that is starting today and runs through Monday, May 5th. Get 25% off regular, sale and clearance items. Exclusions apply.

I met some girlfriends out for dinner last week and I wore this Embellished Dolman Knit Top from White House Black Market with my white jeans. If you love White House Black Market as much as I do, you will be THRILLED to know about their Friends & Family Event starting TODAY. Get 20% off your entire purchase with the code 16278!!!! One time use only.

Going with the neutral/gold theme, I added a stack of gold and silver bangles (I picked those up for cheap around holiday time at Francesca’s) and mixed metal beaded teardrop earrings from Ten Thousand Villages that you can’t really see very well due to the wind blowing my hair into my face, lol.

I felt like the outfit needed something with color so I grabbed my favorite pink clutch. It’s very old, but it’s amazing how a bright pink bag comes in so very handy. I tried to find some similar ones to link you to and didn’t have a lot of luck. This one is by Hobo Int’l and I picked it up off of the clearance table at Nordstrom a few years ago.

And I wanted a fun shoe so I pulled out my leopard pumps, also old, and also a clearance purchase somewhere, if I recall correctly. If I was going to feature only one outfit this week, this would be it. I love this. It’s comfortable and easy to wear, it could work for a daytime lunch and yet it’s special enough for a night out.

This was a casual outfit I wore to work from home and run errands. You’ve seen it before, nothing new here, but I love the simplicity of the gray tee with camo and a denim jacket. The earrings and necklace were both gifts from my girl Lisa at Studio Jewel. If you covet her wares, check out the giveaway going on RIGHT NOW where we’re giving away a $100 gift card to her shop.

Camo and Denim

This denim jacket from CAbi has served me well over the years. I’ll be writing up a recap of the #CAbiBIGevent for Fashion Friday this week. It was super fun and inspiring.

I threw on my Stella & Dot Sardinia Bracelet for a fun splash of color.

This was my casual Saturday outfit. I wore this to a local bluegrass festival. The graphic tee is from the Lucky Brand Store (duh!) and the medium-wash cigarette-leg jeans are the perfect partner.

I’ve been trying to be kind to my feet and wearing my Ecco sneakers with the insoles my orthopedist gave me as often as I can. They’re a great little casual walking shoe. I bought them at The Walking Company, and right now they’re offering free shipping! They get great reviews too. If you need a comfy summer shoe for amusement park excursions or just for chasing the kids around, I highly recommend these.

More Studio Jewel bling, I love the circles pendant and coordinating earrings for accessorizing a casual outfit.

Saturday morning I actually had another event to attend — the Mom Mixer that my good friends Colleen and Whitney put on. I wore my khaki glam jacket (get 20% off with the code 16278) with the cobalt pleat neck top that I ordered from White House Black Market earlier this season. The top seems to be out of stock, which is unfortunate. It is so cute and flattering, but they have plenty of others to choose from.

This time I wore the combo with my white jeans, and I went for comfort and wore my Milly Wedge Pumps (25% off at Nordstrom!!!) If you have finicky feet, this is a fabulous dress shoe. I have them in silver and sandstone.

I was torn about the bag. I really wanted to carry my bright pink Kate Spade tote, but I thought it was too big to lug around at the event so I opted for this smaller and more subtle camel-colored tote. It’s a nice go-with-everything bag. It was another one of my clearance sale purchases, so no longer available but Michael Kors always has tons of variations on this classic tote — and don’t forget you can get 25% off at Macy’s thru Monday!

(The necklace that never lays flat is from Francesca’s.)

Finally, this was church on Sunday, and since then I’ve been wearing nothing worth photographing. The sun and wind were brutal when I tried to get these shots but I want to show the outfit because I so rarely wear skirts. I’m trying to get better about that!

maxi with denim jacket

Everything about this outfit is old and no longer available, but the basic strategy is easy to replicate. A maxi skirt, tank top and denim jacket almost always works. For a similar cropped denim jacket, check out this one at the LOFT. I added a long necklace to break up the front and add interest. That is the Gitane Tassel Necklace from Stella & Dot.

Watch out for black maxi skirts. they can tend to look Amish if you’re not careful. Always pair with a colorful top, and if it’s too warm for a jacket, try a lightweight summer scarf. See this outfit I wore last year.

I also find that a bit of a heel helps elongate the body so you don’t appear stumpy, but I prefer a casual sandal to pumps. If you don’t have a maxi skirt, it really is a great casual look for summer. Old Navy has a large selection at the moment. There’s a black jersey knit maxi skirt like mine, but they also have some fun prints that would be fun to style. Remember, a tank and a denim jacket is all you need!

And that’s a wrap!

  1. You have super cute outfits this week as usual! My favorite is the first one with the embellished top and pink clutch. I’m going to have to check out White House/Black Market. I have never shopped there!

  2. I don’t dare wear a black maxi. I have one for choir but can’t bring myself to wear it otherwise. I’ll try to copy your look and see if that works! Totally loving that khaki jacket like whoa.

  3. Oh my goodness how I love those leopard pumps!! I wish you could do a giveaway for THOSE!! And love the Milly pumps, if only I had $120 to blow on a single pair of shoes 🙁
And yes, I’m loving my maxi & hi-lo skirts this spring! Color is they key as you said. The greatest thing is they are SO comfy, but so cute!
I do have a special request. I am totally and completely inept when it comes to scarf fanagalling. Could you please do a post on a few SIMPLE variteties to wear one? I always end up with just the plain old knot around the back of the neck and a single knot. So very boring. Thanks!

  4. Hey Jo-Lynne. Do you know where I could find capri pants that are fitted to the calf? I am not even sure what you would call them. I don’t want the clam digger style, where they are loose. Do you have any clue what I am trying to say? I am not sure if I do.

    1. I know what you mean, but I’m not sure where to tell you to look. Are you thinking denim or khaki? Capris aren’t as “in” as they used to be… I would try to find ankle length or cropped denim?

  5. You look really pretty in everything as usual. Love the maxi skirts. I’ve been afraid to wear them for some reason but they look great on you – I might give it a try!

  6. All of your outfits are gorgeous! I also loved the backgrounds of the pictures – it gives me some hope that spring is on its way. I live in a suburb of Milwaukee, and our tulips haven’t bloomed yet.

I was laughing at your comment about the black maxi skirt and looking Amish. I bought one last spring and wore it MAYBE twice, because my husband said I looked like a Duggar! I will try your styling tips though, because the skirt is so comfortable!
