Summer Fashion Over 40

When this posts, I’ll be at the beach. Try not to be too jealous! I don’t plan to do any blogging while I’m away (that’s unheard of for me!!) so I’m getting this scheduled and ready to go before I leave. Somehow I still managed to have plenty of outfit photos. It’s such a habit now. All I have to do is hold out the camera to my husband or one of my kids, and they dutifully follow me outside and snap a few shots. I’m sure the neighbors think I’m a loon.

This week’s Fashion Over 40 outfits run the gamut from a fun date night look to several casual shorts outfits to an easy breezy dress that is perfect for throwing on for church or a lunch out with the girls. I also dug out a casual skirt that I used to wear a lot in place of shorts. I need to do that more often!

So without further ado, here’s what I wore this week!

Date Night Style

I wore this on a dinner date with my husband. I built the whole outfit around the necklace. I knew it would go beautifully with this blue top, and it was super hot out so I went with shorts rather than jeans or a skirt. I always feel a bit unsure about wearing shorts with heels, but when I posted a photo of the outfit on my Facebook page, asking the Internets if it looked like I was trying to hard, the overwhelming response was no. So I wore it, and I’m glad I did.

I actually ended up switching shorts between the above photos and the ones below. I know, I’m certifiable. I bought two pairs because I couldn’t decide between them. Between wardrobe changes, the wind started to pick up in anticipation of the storm that was about to strike. We (thankfully) managed to be inside the restaurant for the worst of it. It was a doozie! Anyway, point being, we had to take the photo shoot inside. This was my final outfit.

Casual Summer Shorts

Everything about this outfit is old. I wore it to the mall with my girls in tow. I like the combination of gray and green, and I thought the orange bracelet was a fun contrast to the green top. I added the gold Renegade bracelet for extra interest.

I picked up this top on sale at White House Black Market this week. You really should check out their sales right now!!! Tons of great deals. I thought this was super cute with the girly touches of tulle ruffling and sequins along the neckline and sleeves and the knotted detail on the hip. And? Just $22. The shorts are from Old Navy last year. I shortened my disc necklace so it fit in the neckline of the top. I love that it has an adjustable clasp. I wanted to wear my silver Orthaheels for comfort, so I put on these tri-tone bangles to tie the gold and silver together.

Fourth of July Style

We had no plans for The Fourth. True confessions, I worked all day! I know, pathetic. The kids played with their friends in the ‘hood, and my husband puttered around the house. It was a rainy day, thank you Arthur, so we just decided to lay low and enjoy doing nothing. This is another old outfit without many product links. I love this medallion tee I ordered from Gap last summer. It’s got a nice, easy relaxed style that works well in a “front tuck” and I wore it with my trusty cuffed denim shorts. The white sandals and red bag kept it festive without being over the top. I’m sure the kind folks at the grocery store appreciated my attempts to be patriotic, ha!

Casual Skirts: An Alternative to Shorts

I confessed on Friday that I’ve been struggling with my weight. This skirt is “as old as the hills” as my mother would say! I bought it a size too big at the time because it was on clearance and I wanted it and it was the only size left on the rack. I sure am glad I never got rid of it because it fits fine now. Obviously that means I have no product links, but you can get the idea. It’s a simple outfit and casual enough for Saturday wear, but the skirt is just a step up from shorts and is nice for a change.

Easy Summer Dresses FTW

I picked up this dress at C. Wonder a few weeks ago. I was immediately drawn to the color and pattern, although I struggle with what to do with the tie at the waist. I finally decided to tie it in the back. For some reason, I don’t look right with belted dresses, even when they’re loosely tied like this one. The purse is my birthday gift from my mom. I wanted something small I could take to dinner that is small like a clutch but has a strap so I can hang it on the back of the chair or carry it over my shoulder when I’m juggling a drink and an appetizer. The necklace is old; I picked it up at the J.Crew Outlet last year. I wore this outfit to church on Sunday and then out to lunch.

  1. Are your silver ortho heels comfortable? Like you, I am struggling with terrible foot pain and it is so hard to find cute shoes. I usually wear SAS shoes. The only other brand I can get away with it Clarks. By the way, you look stunning in royal blue!

  2. Love the chevron! You always look so Neat! I feel that I could put those same outfits on and look sloppy! Ha! We tend to be our harshest critics! Love the blog!

  3. LOL I’m so happy you mentioned something about your neighbors in your fashion posts. I love this section of your blog and I ALWAYS can’t help but wonder “What do her neighbors think that she is always posing out there?”
Well, I suppose there could be worse things the neighbors could be saying;) Hope you are enjoying your vacation!

  4. Gosh, you couldn’t get a better match between the necklace and the chevron dress. I just love them together. Wish I had the necklace!

  5. LOVE the blue dress! I also like the green tee. It has just enough going on at the neckline to not be boring.

  6. Blue is definitely your color! The chevron dress and blue top with the black shorts are my favorites this week! Hope you are enjoying your vacation!
