Fashion Friday: Airplane Chic

I’ll make this short and sweet.  Because, um, it’s half-past-midnight Eastern Standard Time and I have been up since 4:15.  Oh yes indeedy, I have.

The plane flight was gloriously uneventful, and we managed to arrive before Snowmageddon hit Nashville. Whitney and I enjoyed some free time before meeting up with the CAbi bloggers this evening. After the opening ceremonies and a lovely dinner, we shopped until we dropped.  And I am dead serious when I say, we stood in line for over an hour to take advantage of the deals on “vintage CAbi.”

Therefore I bring you the briefest Fashion Friday post ever, what to wear on an airplane.

We all like to be comfortable when we travel, but there is no need to wear your pajamas, no offense to the lady in the airport sporting the red plaid flannel pants and tank top.

Rule #1: Dress in layers.

You never know if it will be hot or cold, so be prepared to add or subtract layers.

Rule #2: Comfy but stylish shoes.

There are plenty of shoes that are both cute and comfortable.  I opt for slip-on shoes to make the security check go more smoothly.

Rule #3: No belts or big jewelry…

…unless you relish going back through the scanner multiple times at the security check point.

Rule #4: Smart carry on bags.

They are not pictured here, because when this picture was taken, I was heading out to lunch, not coming off the plane.  However.  On the plane, I put the contents of my purse into my laptop bag and carried that and my camera case as my two carry on items.  I checked my unnecessarily large suitcase (and stowed my cute purse inside.)

Rule #5: Put your coat in your suitcase.

If you wear a coat, put it in your suitcase before you check your baggage so you don’t have to lug a coat through the airport.

And there you have it.  I’m going to sign off before I fall asleep on my keyboard.

But first.

  1. I just love your fashion posts….always very smart and informative. I am leaving on our Napa trip and I was struggle with what to wear. Often traveling with kids, I just go for comfort and rarely look very stylish, but this trip my hubby and I are going to Napa with another couple and so I plan to be stylish for once! So, this post couldn’t have come at a better time. THanks.

  2. That really is a good idea about the coat. Although I usually only wear a light blazer or jacket and keep it with me as one of my layers. But then again, I no longer live in the great white north 🙂

  3. You are exactly right about what to wear on an airplane. I’d add a pair of warm comfy socks in the carry on because my feet always get cold on long flights.

  4. Great ideas. I am new to your blog. I have been reading over your posts.Love them! We live in the Nashville area and I tell you I am really tired of the snow. I am so ready for Spring! Hopefully the weather will get better while you are here.

  5. You hit the nail on the head on everything. I was reading going uh-huh uh-huh uh-huh. I do all of those things (except the coat b/c I live he LA and don’t own one) and am glad to know that I’m doing it “right”.
