Fashion Over 40 | Daily Mom Style 01.08.14

Daily Mom Style is COLD, that’s what she is!!! This weather is nuts. My 14-year-old son even wore a coat to school this morning – THAT IS how cold it is!

Although I have to say, after you get to a certain point, cold is cold. I’m not a fan of cold, but I won’t complain when it’s cold in January and February. Seems like it should be cold in the wintertime, ya know? Besides, I’m always happy for an excuse to wear my UGGs!

Well, isn’t that a convenient segue!? Here’s what I wore this week. Although I admit to staying in my fleece-lined yoga pants several days in a row so my photos are few this week.

Fashion Over 40, What I Wore

DAY 1

Before it got ultra frigid out, I wore this red cashmere hoodie and skinny jeans with my gray UGGs. I love this outfit. The sweater and boots were Christmas gifts from my mom a few years ago, and this is still one of my favorite casual outfits. I think whenever you can open up the chest area, it’s more flattering than a crew neck or turtleneck top. I learned that on What Not To Wear years ago! The casual styling along with the luxuriousness of cashmere is a combination I can’t resist!!!

Everything about this outfit is old and no longer available except the accessories. A similar jean is The Skinny Stretch Jeans by 7 For All Mankind. Mine are Sevens, but I did score them on a clearance sale after Christmas. I try not to pay full price for designer denim. For a less expensive pair, take a look at the Core Better Leggings Skinny Jeans by Levis. This Charter Club Cashmere Zip Hoodie is very similar and on sale for $59!!

As for the boots . . . there are no UGGs like these anymore, which is a shame. They are great boots. If I were going to buy gray UGGs today, I’d definitely get the Bailey Button Triplet. In fact, I’ve been jonesing for a pair in black. I almost ordered a pair and then remembered our spending freeze. Boo. For a cheaper boot but still cute and stylish, the Hope Tall Riding Boots at Kohl’s are super cute and come in gray. And Target has a pair similar to the Bailey UGGs — their Xhilaration Kamar Suede Boots are a great knockoff for $35.

The Kate Spade bangle is an eBay find. The Michael Kors Chain Bracelet Watch was a Christmas gift from my husband, and the necklace was a gift from my friend Lisa of Studio Jewel fame.

DAY 2

This pictures is just to prove that while I might have worn yoga pants all day, I still made an attempt to make myself presentable. These fleece-lined (Kickbooty Tech Stretch Pants) yoga pants by Athleta are a godsend in this weather!! The top is by New Balance, and it’s one I picked up in a sports store last winter so I don’t have a link. I still love my  Mizuno Wave Riders.

DAY 3

I wore this outfit to church on Sunday. MAN OH MAN, was it cold! I thought this cashmere sweater would help keep me warm, and it did. Rather than my typical pendant, I tried wearing this outfit with my leopard scarf. Cute, right?? The scarf is from Francesca’s, and the bracelet trio is from C. Wonder. The Raglan Seam Dolman Sleeve Sweater is still 45% off at Nordstrom, and if you’re in the market for leggings, I highly recommend these Hue Ultra Wide Waistband Leggings. The red boots — aren’t they FABULOUS!? — were sent to me as a sample from JAFA Shoes.

DAY 4

Finally I wore this yesterday when the temps dipped below zero. My remark at the top about turtlenecks not being as flattering as more open necklines. Yeah. Sometimes it’s too cold to care! The gray cords and pink sweater are old. The necklace and bracelet are Silpada. And the Tara M. Tiffany ankle boots are definitely one of the best purchases I made last year. They are SO comfy, and I love how they give a nod to a trendy moto boot without being too rugged for my classic wardrobe.

  1. Wow, I wish my son would wear a coat – so far he only wore it when he went sledding – he learned. I don’t mind the cold as much as I do the winds. I liked what you wore on Sunday the best because I am an animal print lover! Happy Hump Day – hopped over from I Feel Pretty.

  2. I have had a cashmere sweater on my wish list forever. Perhaps I will find a nice one on sale now(: I love the camel colored one you have on. And that pink is a great color for you! Susan

  3. I love looking at what you’re wearing. It gives me so much inspiration. Thank you very much. I just want to ask what Style # JAFA shoes are those: Style #140 or #2040.

  4. I love your over 40 style features. Today on the blog I’ve posted a street style pictures of a woman in her mid-40s whose style I LOVE.

You look great in all of your pictures and your makeup is so impeccable!
