Fashion Over 40: Daily Mom Style 07.01.15

Happy Birthday to ME!!!!!

Fashion Over 40: Wearable Outfit Ideas for Women Over 40

Yes, today’s my birthday. I’m turning 27 again, and I’ve never felt better! Okay, fine, I’m turning 43, and you know what? I wouldn’t trade the aches and pains, the smile lines, or the wisdom and confidence I’ve gained from 43 years of living for all of the water in the fountain of youth. There’s something to be said for getting older and more comfortable in your own skin.

Last night we had a small family celebration with all of my favorite people, and tonight my husband and I have dinner plans before we go to the media preview of Nightscape, a new light and sound show at Longwood Gardens, so I’m really looking forward to that. Meanwhile, here’s what I wore this week. As I always say, I’m just a typical suburban mom trying to stay fabulous after 40 and sharing what I learn along the way. I hope you find some style inspiration here.

I ordered this green slouchy linen tee from LOFT, and I love it. The relaxed fit is easy to wear, and the rounded V-neckline is flattering without being too low-cut. I expect it to shrink up some when I wash it, and I think I’ll like it even better then. I also like the seaming detail in the back. I paired it with my black City Shorts from Ann Taylor, and I wore my black FitFlops. The chevron necklace is from Silpada.

Sorry these next pictures are so blurry. My husband was playing around with camera settings, and it obviously didn’t go very well. I wore this outfit to church on Sunday. My tried and true orange tank strikes again! And I still love this maxi skirt from LNBF. I accessorized with gold and wore my white Tory sandals. I love the contrast of the green satchel against the orange. I really wish the pictures had turned out better.

This is just another casual summer work-from-home outfit. This is the embellished flag t-shirt that I shared in one of my July 4th outfit ideas last week. This time I paired it with my cuffed jean shorts.

And just one more this week. Another casual shorts outfit. I ordered these pink shorts from Old Navy, and I’m really happy with them. They’re only $8 right now!!! I paired them with a simple white tee and this beaded necklace from Target.

I’m not sure how I ended up with only four outfits this week, but I guess I’ve been kind of a bum lately. Don’t forget about the $100 Nordstrom Giveaway I have going on right now!! Along with that, Cyndi and I teamed up to bring you a few casual 4th of July inspired outfits for your Independence Day festivities.

  1. Happy birthday. I just found your blog today via Pleated Poppy… consider me one of your newest followers.

  2. Love these outfits. Happy Birthday! I’ll be 42 this month and I would not give up the wisdom of my age for my youth.

  3. Love your nail polish! Care to share the shade you were wearing with the Orange tank outfit? TIA and happy birthday

    1. Sure! So it’s actually two CND shellac colors – Cake Pop with Romantique on top. It is my new fave. The Romantique tones down the pink in the Cake Pop just enough. It’s very neutral and goes with everything.

  4. Happy Birthday Jo-Lynne! Enjoy your special day! 🙂 I love the maxi skirt and embellished tee.

  5. Happy Birthday to you!! Enjoy your day I have a “big” one coming in 26 days. I love your shorts outfits; unfortunately, it has been too chilly here to wear shorts. I’m still waiting for summer to get here.

  6. Happy birthday Jo Lynne ~ you look fabulous and I love your blog. I have the Loft linen tee also, which I love and you inspired me to add a pop of neon to my wardrobe so I snagged a pair of Lou & Gray neon yellow shorts for $20 on clearance at Loft. Do you mind sharing your polish color in the Orange tank and maxi skirt outfit – thanks. I treat myself to a Shellac manicure every 3 weeks so I’m always looking for new colors.

    1. LOL, you’re the 2nd person to ask! It’s two CND shellac colors – Cake Pop with Romantique on top. It is my new fave. The Romantique tones down the pink in the Cake Pop just enough. It’s very neutral and goes with everything.

  7. Happy Birthday!

How do you get your husband to take such nice pictures for you? Getting my husband to take a picture of me is like pulling teeth. 🙂

    1. LOL! Well, he’s sort of a partner in my biz at this point. He actually enjoys photography, so that’s a bonus. If he wasn’t into it, I’d have my daughter take them. In fact, she does sometimes. 🙂

      1. You’re lucky. I asked my husband to take some pictures of me for my blog this weekend. He said he would but when it was time to do it, he was very cranky about it. Maybe if my blog was making money. 🙂 Oh well, he did get a few nice shots.

        1. LOL, yeah, well, mine didn’t used to be so patient about it either. If he had no interest in photography, I don’t think he’d be as agreeable, but he kind of likes the challenge. 🙂

  8. Happy birthday! I realized some time ago that I have no fashion sense. I thought I did once but realize I was just buying complete outfits and never knew how to mix and match; I still don’t. You’ve become my go-to for “what will Kathy wear, today?” Because the new 50 is really 40, right? 😉

  9. Great outfits this week as always. Thank you for sharing. Hope you have a fabulous birthday!!

  10. I love the way you have put together these outfits – so simple yet classy! Hope you had a great birthday!
