I love this outfit. The lace trim elevates a plain black tank to a cute top, and the cut-offs are casual and comfy. You can’t see them, but I’m wearing really cute earrings, and I threw on my watch and a silver bracelet. My Orthaheels have become my go-to sandals when I know I’m going to be doing some walking and I want to be comfortable.

I threw on this casual striped elastic-waist dress for a neighborhood party last weekend, and I wore it again one day when I was hosting a ladies’ gathering at my house. I picked it up at the Banana Republic Factory Outlet a few weeks ago. Earrings and necklace are Stella & Dot. I thought the yellow bracelet was a fun pop of color against the navy-and-white.

I tried the maxi-skirt/chambray shirt combo again — this time with wedge sandals and a bright orange tank top. I didn’t actually wear this anywhere. It was my first attempt at putting together an outfit inspired by the new Simply Orange juice blends, but I decided to go for a lighter look for that post.

Still, I thought it was worth showing since so many of you had opinions about my attempt at the maxi skirt/chambray combo in last week’s Daily Mom Style post. I like it much better than last week’s version, but it’s still awfully heavy for the middle of summer (which is why I didn’t wear it anywhere — that, and I can NOT walk in those sandals! LOL)

I wore this for a date night with Paul on Friday night. I’m loving this new white eyelet top from Banana Republic. I paired it with my favorite bootcut jeans and my comfiest wedge sandals. I knew I wouldn’t be doing a lot of walking (dinner and a play) so I figured my feet wouldn’t rebel too much. White and denim is pretty plain so I knew I needed some statement jewelry to jazz it up. I decided to go with my new blue and gold necklace from J.Crew Factory and an enamel bracelet in coordinating shades that I picked up on clearance at Nordstrom last winter.

Next up, a casual Saturday outfit. I love these mint-colored shorts, but they’re going in the Goodwill bin. I caught a glimpse of my rear view when I was working on my hair, and I was aghast. They are baggy and draggy. I asked my husband for a second opinion, and he readily agreed. (He usually doesn’t have strong opinions about what I wear so I knew they were destined for resale.) I’m bummed. I like them so much from the front.

I changed into jean shorts as soon as I made this startling discovery. I have a sad, sad feeling that my coral shorts and my new pink printed shorts are going to end up in the same place. For some reason, I’ve never had any luck with pants that aren’t denim. I had sorta forgotten this; I guess that’s why I only had denim bottoms in my closet for so many years!

I wore this outfit to church on Sunday. I picked up this top at Banana Republic last week along with the white one above on a 40% off promo! I think I’d prefer this outfit with heels, but I was trying to be kind to my feet.

Yes, I’m rather fond of my new Tory Burch sandals, how could you tell? I know that’s quite a price tag, but they were a gift! And I’m doing my best to get my mom’s money’s worth out of them by wearing them every chance I get.

For those following my foot health saga, these are actually quite comfortable to my finicky feet in spite of their flat footbed. They stay on without having to grip with my toes, and I have plenty of room to spread out so I’m a happy camper!

  1. Loving the eyelet tops. Makes me kind of wish BR carried bigger sizes. Guess I just gotta keep plugging away on losing weight. 🙂 Almost down to my pre-Libbie weight!

    1. That’s awesome!! It’s hard work. My white one already got ruined – it was a dry clean only and I didn’t realize it so I washed it (in cold, on delicate and hung it to dry) and the under layer shrunk and now won’t lay right. Boo.

  2. How satisfied are you with your Orthaheels? Would you recommend them? I have plantar fasciitis, too, and is slowly getting worse. My Chacos no longer cut it for me.

  3. I really like the white eyelet top and the blue one is a pretty color. Where do you find the Orthoheels? I need something with arch support. So many shoes nowadays don’t have that.

  4. That’s a bummer about the Mint shorts, I love the color!!
I could never do maxi skirts in the summer, I tend to like them with boots for some reason.

  5. I know what you mean about the shorts, the same thing happens to me with my J Crew shorts. Frankly it doesn’t stop from wearing them…but if you are looking for a cleaner look you may want to try Anthropologie’s G1 shorts, Cuffed twill shorts. They are amazing, they hug my rear and I love the length. They are on the lower rise side, but the cotton is soft and stretchy, so they don’t give me a muffin top. I’d keep the shorts if I were you and wear them for casual occasions!

    1. Yeah, I dunno… I think actually they might be a size too small. Its hard – the leg openings are plenty big, but they’re a bit snug in the waist and tend to ride up in the inseam and then bulge funny over the back… not a good fit AT ALL even for casual wear, lol.

  6. I splurged and bought the TB sandals too! I have NEVER paid that much for a pair of sandals before but I LOVE them and I wear them a lot! You always look so cute! I love the navy and white striped dress!

  7. This was a fun week! I adore the white eyelet shirt, and the blue lacy one is very nice too. Then again, it’s with those killer white jeans, so how can it look bad? 🙂 I have a solution for all those misbehaving shorts: don’t look in the “rear-view mirror”! haha 🙂 Oh well. I’m dying to see what you do with that maxi skirt in the fall, when the layered shirts will work well.

  8. Thought of you the other day when I saw a woman in a black maxi skirt. She had it paired with a cute striped tee and cute flip flops. Very casual but darling for an afternoon of shopping. 🙂

  9. I just got back from a trip to New York City with my husband and saw a woman on fifth avenue wearing those exact TB sandals:) You are in very good company!

  10. First time commenter and have been following from The Pleated Poppy…I love the mint shorts! i have been looking everywhere for the right pair.mcould you tell me the size? Would it be totally weird if I bought them from you. I have an ample rear end and I might be able to make them work. Thanks!

  11. Bummed to hear about the fate of your mint-colored shorts. That is SUCH a lovely color! Maybe try it in a skirt? I have a lot of luck with skirts, they are just so comfortable & forgiving. I will go so far as to say that not only do I feel more confident & feminine in skirts, but I feel like others treat me differently too … more flirtatious smiles from men and lots more doors held open for me 😉 Singleton here, can you tell?!
You’re definitely onto something with those details like the lace trim on the black tank. Its those little bits of lace, ruffle, and other accents on everyday (read: COMFY) pieces that just dial up the classy factor!

  12. Love all of your outfits! What brand /style are your boot cut jeans in the pic with the white sleeveless top?
