Fashion Over 40: Daily Mom Style 08.05.15

Summer Fashion for Women Over 40

Today is my 20th wedding anniversary. TWENTY. You guys, that makes me feel reeeeeally old. I’m really not sure how I got here, but neither do I want to be the girl I was during the first half of my marriage — even if she was skinnier and had fewer wrinkles. I’ve grown so much in these past 20 years, and there’s no one I’d rather spend the next 20 years with than the man who has been with me through thick and thin.

Tomorrow night we have plans to go out to dinner at one of our favorite restaurants to celebrate. I had envisioned our 20th as a big year with an amazing vacation to somewhere tropical or maybe Europe, but that didn’t work out so we will be celebrating quietly, and I’m okay with that. I’m looking forward to a quiet evening out with just the two of us after spending the last three weeks in close quarters with the whole family.

Meanwhile, I have just a few outfits to share with you. I didn’t take any pictures during the last half of my vacation so all I have is what I’ve taken since I got home.

I wore this outfit to church on Sunday.

Summer Fashion for Women Over 40: Green Slouchy Top with White Jeans and Leopard Wedge Sandals

My LOFT slouchy linen tee shrunk up when I washed it, as I expected it to. I did lay it out flat to dry, as the washing instructions indicate, so I’m glad I ordered the medium. This time I wore it with my white jeans. I love this crisp color combo!

I love my new leopard wedge sandals that I ordered from Nordstrom last week. They are on sale for $46, if you’re interested. Leopard is awesome because it adds pizzazz to an outfit, but it’s a neutral so it goes with just about everything.

On Monday, I wore this simple black and white outfit to run errands and generally try to get my life back in order after vacation!

Casual Summer Outfit: Black Top with White Jean Shorts & Boat Shoes

The black top is an oldie but goodie from LOFT, and the white jean shorts are new. Unfortunately, they’re sold out, but these are similar. I like having another neutral option for jean shorts. I don’t know why I didn’t think to buy white shorts before now! I added gold accessories and my orange leather wrap bracelet for a pop of color.

And yesterday I wore this super casual outfit. Everything is old except for the accessories.

Casual Mom Style: Gray Tee with Jean Shorts & Striped Tote

I love grey and denim. It’s so easy. The Arabesque Link Necklace is part of the new Stella & Dot Fall 2015 Collection. I like how it’s elegant yet casual.

The Rebel Ring is also from the new fall collection. My Glacier Impulse Beaded Bangle was gifted from Alex and Ani. They have so much more than just the charm bracelets that are so popular right now. They sent me this bracelet along with two others to try out, and I love them. They’re modern but classic.

And that’s a wrap. It’s been a crazy week trying to play catchup from vacation and juggling all the kids’ needs while I’m at it. I hate to say it, but I think I’m looking forward to getting back into a school days routine.

  1. Happy Anniversary to you and your hubby! We celebrate 25 next year and also have grand plans to travel somewhere tropical. Hopefully it will pan out but life does get in the way sometimes. I do not own any Stella & Dot jewelry. Is it sold online or only through independent distributors?

  2. So cute as usual, girl!! HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! 20 is a big one!!! We always said we would go back to Tahiti for our 10 year and clearly THAT didn’t happen and at 20….no way! Too much going on!! Enjoy your lovely dinner with your hubby..sometimes that’s all you need!! XOXOXO

  3. We just celebrated our 20th as well…in a cabin…with eight other people for the week! Lol! It was a great time but I’m thinking 25 may need to be a more grandiose celebration! 🙂 Congrats to you both! Some of your new S&D accessories have caught my eye!

    1. Yes, I’d say you need to start planning your 25th NOW. 🙂 Scarily enough, when we have our 25th, we will have a kid in college and one more in the queue, so I seriously doubt we will be doing much then either. That’s okay, though. A true gift is a man who comes home to me every night and still wants to be here. The gifts and trips are just icing. 🙂

      1. Completely agree with your last comment! That is a true gift! And while I’d love a grand 25th, realistically we’ll have one in college and one who will have completed his 4-year college and will likely be heading to grad school! So yeah, not likely! Lol! But that won’t stop me from reading posts like the one you have up today about your Maine trip and dreaming a bit! 😉

  4. I LOVE the leapard wedges and immediately ordered as I was reading this!!! I wear a lot of black with my business and love to accent with animal print! Thanks and Happy Anniversary!!! Lisa

  5. Happy Anniversary!! 20 years is awesome. My husband and I will be celebrating our 20th next year. And I feel the same – not sure where the time went, it makes me feel old too, but I wouldn’t want to be the younger me either, besides the wrinkle part. 🙂 I am grateful for what I have learned and for how our relationship has grown. Enjoy your dinner date!

  6. Congratulations on your 20 years! You look too young to be married for 20 years.

Love the simplicity of these outfits, yet you look like you spent hours picking them out!! I really need to work on that for me. We have a few more college visits coming up during the hot August month, so these would be perfect!

  7. Happy anniversary to you both! Twenty years is a great milestone. We began our 25th year in April. I agree completely with liking me and my husband more now than ever! We have been blessed to grow more together through the years.
On another note, don’t let this make you feel old. I’m sure you weren’t fishing for compliments, but you are more beautiful than ever. That 2-week vacation must have been just what you needed. I’m halfway through my week-long vacation & finally feel relaxed. Blessings!

  8. Happy anniversary! My husband and I will be celebrating 25 years in September. No big trips for us either – our younger son will be a senior this year so I think we’ll take a big family trip when he graduates. Hope you have a great date night!

  9. Happy Anniversary! Our 23rd is Saturday. This is always a busy time of year for celebrations. My oldest turned 22 a couple of weeks ago and then my 50th was 5 days after that, and 2 weeks later, our anniversary. My husband complains every year that we have to eat out so much around this time (he’s not a fan of eating out). 🙂 For our 20th, we went to Amish country which is about 90 minutes away. A nice little getaway.

    1. Yes, it is just a bad time of year to get away because we always have our big family Maine vacation at the end of July, and then my son has band camp the entire month of August. Oh well, we have our memories of Turks & Caicos last year. 🙂

  10. Yay! Happy anniversary! 20 years is a truly beautiful thing and more rare than ever. My husband and I are working on #8 and we can’t wait to have such a wonderful longevity to our marriage. Congratulations and btw you look great, too!
