Happy Wednesday, friends! This will be my last “Daily Mom Style” post for a while. I am going to be starting 26 Days of Fall Outfits next week, and I’ll be posting daily outfit posts for the month of September.

Meanwhile, here’s what I’ve been wearing this week! Even though it still feels like the dead of summer, I find myself already gravitating to some of my pants and transition clothing.

I hate it when I can’t recall where I wore something, but I have no recollection of that I did the day I wore this coral top and olive cargo pants. I was pretty pleased with this outfit, though. I never thought to pair these pieces together, but I saw them hanging near each other in my closet and got inspired. (Pardon the blurry photos. My daughter took these, bless her heart. She’s a good sport, but she has yet to master the skill of making sure the camera is focused on my face.)

I wore my Arabesque Chandeliers and this delicate 3-disc necklace along with my R Bracelet, which has some coral in it.

My gold espadrilles and Bucket Bag in cuoio complete the look. I also added a snakeskin belt, which pulls in the gold from the shoes.

I wore this outfit to take my daughter to her middle school preview last week. This is another outfit combination I’ve never put together before. I like the muted navy and white in this Striped Vintage Broken In Tee that I picked up at LOFT last week. When I saw it sitting next to my seafoam green skinnies (similar), I got inspired to put them together.

It took me a while to figure out how to style the hem of the pants so they worked with the sneakers. I wish I’d taken pictures of them each way to show you because it was interesting to me how different they looked with each variation.

First I pulled them on and left them alone, but they came right down to the tops of my sneakers, and that didn’t seem entirely flattering. I read somewhere that with ankle boots, the trick is to show just enough ankle to create a break in the line of the leg at the ankle. I thought the same concept might apply here, so then I tried rolling them up twice into narrow cuffs, but that seemed to shorten my legs and made me look really hippy.

I almost gave up, and then I decided to try just turning up the hem one time. Perfect! This way, it shows just enough skin to visually elongate the leg, and that narrow cuff widens the bottom of the pant leg just enough to help offset the width of my hips. Proportion is key, as always. You just have to play around with each pair of pants, and the “right way” will depend on your shoes and your body type. When I wear these pants with sandals, I don’t cuff them at all. I guess that works because sandals leave more skin exposed, so I don’t need to fool around with the hem at all.

I did the old front-tuck trick with my top and added my snakeskin belt. (If you are baffled by the front tuck, see my post on how to front tuck your shirt.)

I played with my accessories and decided to wear this silver and aqua Arabesque Link Necklace along with my engraved I.D. tag necklace, both from Stella & Dot. Then, in keeping with the silver theme, I added this S&D Rebel Ring and the Alex and Ani Glacier Impulse Beaded Bangle.

Friday night was my son’s first marching band performance of the season. We all headed down to our high school football stadium to see the fruits of his summer labor. I’d been in workout clothes all day, so I threw on this white top and jeans.

I wore my brown embellished t-strap sandals because I can, ha! I’ve missed wearing flimsy flats. I still have to be careful because as long as I insist on running, my feet are going to be high maintenance, but I knew I wasn’t going to be doing too much walking, and I like these sandals with this outfit. They have just enough bling to be fun, and they showed of my new pedicure nicely, dontcha think!? That color is Toni by Zoya, for anyone who is interested. It’s a great color for fall. And before you ask, the color on my hands is Zoya’s Dot.

I’m wearing my eyeglasses because I scratched my eye the night before (long story) and I was worried about putting contacts back in them. I accessorized with this silver Silpada Duomo Necklace, and since they were already sitting out on my dresser, I put back on the Glacier Impulse Beaded Bangle and my Rebel Ring.

On Saturday, I wore this outfit for our trip down to Baltimore. We went out to lunch and hung out at the hotel, so I wanted to be cute but comfy.

Fashion Over 40: Dressy Shorts Outfit

The black and white striped top is from White House Black Market, but I believe it’s sold out. I can’t find it, anyway. The classic black City Shorts are from Ann Taylor. I carried my green satchel because I like the contrast against the black and white outfit.

I struggled a bit with what to wear in the neckline, and I finally decided on this simple Stella & Dot Crescent Bar Necklace. I wore a silver beaded bracelet and my two-tone watch. My gold FitBit bracelet broke (sad panda…) so I’ve been wearing the ugly plastic one again. I removed it for the picture.

I chose my Orthaheels for comfort, and I’m so glad I did because we ended up doing quite a bit of walking in downtown Baltimore. You can read all about our trip here.

That night I changed into white jeans and this top for dinner. I wore black patent wedge sandals and carried this black quilted clutch. It was a freebie with my bucket bag purchase earlier this season, and I finally got a chance to carry it. I didn’t get really good closeups, but if you’re a regular, you’ve seen this outfit before. It looked better about five pounds ago, ha!

We got up bright and early on Sunday morning to head home, where we had a nice brunch with our kids and my mom before she drove back to Virginia. This is another repeat outfit, although I did freshen it up with this awesome statement necklace. I’ve been waiting for the right opportunity to wear it. I thought the colors went beautifully with this green top from LOFT.

And it looks like I forgot to remove my FitBit for this one. At least it matches, right!?! We weren’t planning to take pictures outside, but once we got out there, the light was too good to pass up.

On Monday, I had lunch with friends at the new Cantina Laredo in King of Prussia. I wore this navy and magenta medallion maxi skirt with my navy tank and jean jacket. I’m borrowing these pictures from the last time I wore this outfit. I love the Chevron Necklace over the navy tank.

  1. I still love that maxi skirt. I really should do some shopping and see if I can find a similar one anywhere. The colors are great.

I may need to look for a new belt too. I like the one you’re wearing. I think maybe I don’t like the front tuck on me because I don’t have the right belt. Sounds like it’s time to find someone to have a play date for the baby so I can go shopping, LOL.

  2. That striped Loft tee looks great. I bought the same Vintage Striped Tee at Loft in another color, lavender. These striped tees are great transition pieces from summer to fall. The lavender version looks good with my light coloring, and goes great with khaki shorts or slacks.

I like the way you put together the olive and coral outfit. I’ve avoided olive pants simply because I don’t know what to wear with them! The only color I could think of was white lol.

  3. I really like the simple turned cuff you did with the seafoam green jeans with sneakers! I was also admiring your denim bermudas the other day, and was wondering about the cuff on those. Is that also a simple turned up cuff? It was hard to tell from the picture. I struggle with the cuff on my bermudas. Denim seems too thick to roll twice, and too long to roll once. I really like the wash on your bermudas, too. What brand are they? I see you linked to 2 similar styles, but the wash looks very different. Thanks!

    1. Hey Kat, so yeah, those Bermudas are long gone. I remember finding them at 6pm.com and getting them on sale, but that was probably 5 years ago now. They were Joe’s. They have no hem, so the cuff isn’t too thick even though they are double rolled.

  4. Great looking outfit with the medallion maxi skirt. And I’ve gotten several of the Alex and Ani bracelet’s – love stacking them and mixing (although I spent all day organizing them!).

  5. All very cute and very much me! So much so that I actually played around with extremely similar combos as your first two outfits this week, haha. Can’t wait to check out the fall outfits next month.

  6. I can’t choose a favorite — I have so many of these pieces (similar) I love the white and turquoise, almost love the salmon and olive!
