Fashion Over 40 #WhatIWore 12.03.14

Welcome back to my weekly Fashion Over 40 post where I share what I wore this week and link up with other fabulous fashion bloggers around the web! I’m just a mom trying to stay fabulous after 40 and sharing how I translate the current trends to work for a typical suburban mom. I hope you find some fashion inspiration here.

Fashion Over 40: What I Wore This Week, stylish yet casual outfits for mom

As many of you know, it’s been a rough week in Casa de Shane. I’m down and out again with my foot. My doctor could shed no light on the issue yesterday but ordered an MRI so he can see what’s going on. He’s as perplexed as the rest of us, it seems. And with the days being so short, I haven’t managed to get pictures of my outfits every day. The camera with the timer that I used to use when I was alone broke several months ago, and I haven’t ever replaced it. I miss my little Sony NEX. It did a great job when I needed it in a pinch.

So anyway, here’s a few of my outfits this week. I wore this last Wednesday. My kids had a blast in the snow, and I had a blast trying out my new Sorel snow boots that I received as part of a collaboration with Zappo’s. More on that to come!

This is what I wore on Thanksgiving Day. My new coated jeans and the embellished sweater from WHBM that I picked up last week and wore for our family pictures. I’d have loved to wear my new Naturalizer booties (as seen here), but instead I wore these sensible Sketchers. Maybe next year I’ll be back in cute shoes. . . one can hope!

Shop this look: Embellished Cowl Neck Sweater // DL1961 ‘Florence’ Instasculpt Skinny Jeans (Lourdes)  // Sketchers Felicity // red bag (old) // Stella & Dot You Are My Sunshine necklace (old) // Stella & Dot bracelets: Inspiration Bangle, Pave Arrow Cuff & Pyramid Stud Cuff

A note about the jeans above. I love them. I wasn’t sure I’d like the coated denim, but I do. For a jeans girl like me, they’re a great way to do a dressier, edgier look while still getting the same style and comfort that I do in my favorite jeans. These are currently on sale at DL1961. Although they don’t LOOK like the same color, they say they are. I got them at Nordstrom on sale so that is the link I used above, but they are no longer on sale at Nordstrom. So… shop at your own risk, lol.

Finally, I wore this outfit to go out to dinner with friends. You’ve seen this before and most of the components are old, although the snakeskin tote and the Florence jeans are still available. Oh, and the jewelry! I love those silver teardrop earrings from Stella & Dot, and I enjoy layering those 3 silver bangles for a fun casual look.

I also wore this one day this week . . . again, I’m stealing an old photo that you’ve seen before, but why reinvent the wheel, yes?

  1. Please keep styling the coated jeans. I got some from Gap, and am still trying to figure out how to style them. Particularly footwear. They are black (kind a look like leather) and my black heels looked wrong when I tried to pair them. I appreciate you styling them! You look great!

  2. I’ve had the Sorrel Joan of Arctic boot for a few years. VERY similar in look to these but more muted colors. I LOVE them. Buy the Sorrel boots and you will not be disappointed. I bought mine from Dicks when they had either one of their $ or % off promotions.

  3. I feel your pain. I dealt with plantar fasciitis for two years and couldn’t wear cute shoes. I’ve finally gotten to the point I can branch out, and what did i do? Wore a new pair of flats while out running errands and they rubbed blisters on my heels. Now I can only wear my clogs or Birkenstocks. Neither of which look good with leggings! I’m really limited with wardrobe options now. At least mine should heal in a week or so. I hope you have rapid healing as well!

  4. I love every outfit! You look amazing in them all! I also love the Sorel boots, but could never spend $150 on shoes for myself so will be looking for a sale on them. Sorry about your foot and pray it gets better fast!

  5. A friend of mine that also suffers from plantar fasciitis suggested orthoheel slippers to wear at home. After a few weeks wearing them and wearing sensible shoes to teach, my pain was gone! Now I am able to wear whatever shoes I want during the day but wear my slippers as soon as I get home. So far, I haven’t had another flare up!

    1. Oh, but thanks for the input. I’m sorry if I sounded rude. 🙂 I’m just exhausted by all this. And the MRI is actually for my OTHER foot… LOL. I really have bum feet.
