Favorite Fall Wardrobe Basics #FashionFriday

Greetings, TGIF, cheers to the weekend, and all that! Today is our last day of vacation, and it looks like it’s going to be the best day yet, weather-wise, so I’m planning to spend as much time as I can at the beach.

For today’s post, I’m teaming up with Amy from Straight A Style and Caryl from More Pieces of Me to talk about some of our favorite fall basics.

Clearly we’re all #teamskinnyjeans here!

It’s no secret that I love my skinnies, but straighter styles are also trending, and I think we’re going to be seeing some of both this year. It’s not an all-or nothing thing, which is nice. Yay for variety!

I promise to try to integrate other pant styles into my outfit posts this fall and winter, but for today, since we’re talking about our favorite fall basics, I had to wear my AG legging ankle skinnies. I have these in several different washes, and they are all pretty much my favorites.

The first time I tried on this style, I could not believe how well they fit, plus the comfort factor is bar none. Even when brand new, I pull on a pair of these jeans and instantly feel like I’m home. Yes, they’re pricey, so I always like to pick up a new pair during the #NSale when they’re 30-40% off the regular retail price.

I was really excited when I saw this year’s style with the darker wash and split hem. They seem to run slightly smaller than my other AG legging ankle jeans, so if you order a pair, you may want to size up.

This exact style was restocked just a couple days ago but it’s already slim pickin’s again. So sorry! Another option is this pair, which they brought back from last year’s #NSale, and the AG Farrah high rise is another great option — it has a slightly higher rise, no rips, and a sewn hem.

Another one of my favorite fall basics is a good cardigan. I tried on quite a few at the #NSale this year and purchased four. I’m not planning to keep them all, although they’re all really good, so we shall see…

This cardigan may be the most flattering of all the ones I tried. It’s soooo super soft, and it has a nice slim silhouette with the drawstring waist and set-in sleeves. I love the ribbed knit sleeve detail, the cozy hood, and the patch pocket. At $52, I feel like it’s a great value. Unfortunately it’s low inventory, but it comes in several colors, and there are some sizes still available.

Of course, a cardigan calls for a good basic tee to wear underneath, and a colorful printed scarf is a great way to add interest to so many fall looks.

I have a love/hate relationship with scarves, but this one is nice because it’s lightweight and silky and doesn’t add a lot of visual bulk. Plus tassels!

So let’s talk fall shoes. Loafers and driving shoes are timeless classics, but they’re having a trending moment this fall. I’m typically drawn to more feminine styles, but for some reason I’m loving this menswear inspired trend right now. It’s a nice change from the ballet flats I typically live in after sandal season is over.

These UGG loafers with moccasin-inspired stitching and the grippy sole of a driving shoe are pretty much pure perfection. Add to that, a cushioned memory-foam footbed with arch support and an amazingly reasonable price, and I call these out as one of the best buys of this year’s #NSale. I love them so much that I got them in both chestnut and red.

So many of you have bought these and love them too, and they stayed in stock for quite a while, but inventory is finally getting picked over. I recommend sizing up half in these, and a lot of people have ordered two sizes, planning to return the ones that don’t fit, so keep an eye on the website because they will likely get some returns.

Also, if you love the style, there are a lot of other colors and sizes in the original suede UGG Milana, and $99 isn’t a bad price for these shoes. I really like the leather of the Milana II, but the suede ones are nice too.

So yeah, this outfit pretty much comprises all of my favorite fall basics. Of course, there are more… like boots and booties *swoon* and cozy cashmere pullovers, but for some reason I’m feeling really drawn to cardigans and loafers this year.

Also, these photos were taken in my new backyard. I love having a private outdoor spot to take outfit pictures!!!

Be sure to visit Amy and Caryl for more fall style inspiration! And it’s Friday, so that means linkup day!

My apologies for skipping the linkup last week. I had a sponsored post scheduled, and they didn’t want any confusion with that, and I deleted my Fashion Friday email list when the whole GDPR stuff went nuts. You all who participate regularly, let me know if you liked getting my (admittedly, sporadic) reminder emails, and maybe I can set up a new list with the GDPR opt-in checkbox.

  1. I really like this outfit and this picture is making my desire even stronger for fall weather to get here.  That is an awesome cardigan!  Scarves can add so much to an outfit, but no matter the fabric or temps, the back of my neck sweats so bad that I don’t like wearing them.  And those shoes!  Since Nordstrom does have free shipping, both ways, I am going to take a chance and order one pair.  That style shoe fits my lifestyle too much not to give them a try.  Enjoy your day at the beach!

  2. I must be a freak of nature or something. I know everyone adores the AG jeans, but I tried them last year during “the sale” and didn’t like them. 🙁 I think it’s just my body type and they aren’t the right ones for me, but I feel so left out. LOL #jeanenvy Enjoy the rest of your vacay!!! XO

    1. You’re not the only one I’ve heard that from. Just goes to show, we’re all different and what works for some doesn’t necessarily work for everyone else. 🙂

  3. I’m not really a cardigan person but this one is cute. I like the slender silhouette.
Your backyard looks so green and lush. No wonder you want to get back home to your gorgeous house. It must feel just like Christmas with all your new arrivals. I love to decorate so just the  thought of it excites me. Lol

  4. Well, I must admit I hate seeing fall fashion posts in July or August, but this is a super cute fall outfit!  I love everything!  That cardigan is so cute.  Love the scarf.  The loafers are adorable too.  And what a great spot you created in your yard for outdoor photography.  Your going to love it!

    1. Girl, I hear ya. I cringe every time I put up a fall picture on IG b/c I know I hate to see them on other accounts. I look forward to getting back to more summer or at least transition looks after I get back from vaca. Fall looks are all I have banked up right now, thanks to the infamous NSALE. 🙂 I just ordered a few cute things from J.Crew. Hoping they work out!

  5. Can’t wait for fall/winter. Love your casual style & feel the same about scarves but that one is really cute.

  6. Really love this combo! I love fall dressing!! The Nordstrom site is driving me crazy during this sale. With so many items being low stock, it will say only one color is left in my size. (UGG mocs for example) I click on that color and it changes to one of the others! Anyone else?!

    1. Happened to me as well. Also, I ordered two colors of the ugg loafers and they confirmed my order. It actually took them about a week to discover they couldn’t fulfill the order for one of the pairs. I think they could have kept track of inventory a little better. It only requires a database.

  7. One of the many, many things I have learned from reading this blog is that there are clothing items that are considered essential, like a basic white tee. That scarf really makes this outfit and the colour looks great on you. Thanks, Jo-Lynne!
