Spring Floral & Denim in Nashville

Hello, friends! Welcome back to 27 Days of Spring Fashion, a stylish collaboration between me and Cyndi Spivey of Grace + Beauty fame. Today is Day 2! In case you missed it, you can see yesterday’s post HERE.

Today’s pictures were taken in Nashville by the talented Catherine Truman. It was so much fun working with her, and it was interesting to see how a professional photographer operates. My husband does a great job, but there are definitely some advantages to working with someone who works with other fashion bloggers. I love all the different angles and variety of shots. You’ll have to forgive me, I had a really hard time narrowing these down, so I may be going a little overboard with the pictures today.

It was SUPER windy the day we took these photos, and you will see some wild and crazy hair.

This top is one I picked up at Nordstrom a few weeks ago, and when I shared my dressing room selfies, I said I couldn’t find it online. Well, a few of you are better sleuths than I am and sent me the link, so YAY!

It’s this print v-neck top by Hinge. I’m not sure what drew me to it; it’s different than the styles I normally gravitate to, but I thought it was fresh and fun for spring. It looks great paired with blue jeans, but it would also work well with blush or khaki or that rust color that’s present in the top.

The top is a size medium. I tried the small, and it was actually more flattering and made me look more shapely, but it was snug through the chest. Considering it’s made of rayon, I was afraid it would shrink up in the wash, so I bought the medium. I wish I’d washed it before our photo shoot, but alas… no time! I have washed it since coming home, and it looks great now. It didn’t shrink much, but just enough. All that to say, keep that in mind if you’re wanting to purchase.

For jewelry, I decided to wear this pave necklace and beaded hoop earrings from Lucky Brand. I like how they’re delicate and understated with a slightly casual, boho vibe. I feel like they compliment the style of the top, and they work well with each other too. I actually bought them together because I like the way they compliment each other. I’m learning that accessorizing is easier when I do that, rather than coming home and trying to figure out what to put together.

I also threw on a few of my favorite Alex and Ani wire bangles. I’ve been collecting these for several years. I love how each one has a particular meaning, and they seem to go with everything. I know they’re not as trendy as they were a few years ago and I don’t notice people wearing them much anymore, but I still love them. They’re my go-to when I’m wearing gold jewelry.

I completed the look with these perforated booties and kate spade hobo in a beautiful shade of taupe. The bag is actually called “rose cloud” and there is a hint of pink, but it’s neutral enough that it goes with almost everything. I absolutely love these booties and bag together; you’re going to see them a lot!

By the way, I just discovered that my kate spade hobo is on sale at Nordstrom in the grey, pink, and navy! All are gorgeous colors that are very much on trend. That grey fog or pink granite would definitely work with this outfit and many others.

These open toe booties are the perfect transition shoe for spring. They block heel is sturdy and provides plenty of support, and the inside of the shoes is sooo comfortable and soft. They don’t rub anywhere, and I feel like I could walk in them all day. I actually walked all over downtown Nashville wearing them the first night we were there. That outfit is still to come!

Opinions were mixed on this top when I posted the dressing room selfie, and I admit, even I was unsure if I’d wear it other than for the blog, but I really love how this outfit came together. I think it’s going to come in very handy this spring!

  1. I bought a pair of open toed booties last year with trepidation! I know I’m old, but it seemed almost silly to have boots with holes in them? But I had to admit I loved them especially in the fall, and I have a feeling I’ll be wearing them a ton in the spring!
These photos turned out great, Jo-Lynne!! Did the photographer use a reflector or anything special?

    1. Nope, the lighting was just really nice, bouncing off the light colored buildings. It was a gorgeous day, and I think this white building is MADE for outfit pictures! LOL!

  2. Wow, one of my favorites! Ever! You even have me thinking I *need* this top, haha. I can see this with your fab bootcuts and block heels too. So so cute!

    1. I actually considered photographing the top with bootcut jeans and block heel sandals – I will still wear it that way sometime, I’m sure. I may even photograph it for a later post… no reason I can’t style the same shirt twice, I guess?

  3. I’m really liking the top more now than I did in the dressing room. It’s a great top, I just wasn’t sure it was something you’d really wear. The pattern is adorable now I’ve seen it up close!

  4. Jo-Lynne, this look is lovely and fresh. I’m particularly fascinated to discover how footwear can really make a huge difference. If you’d worn this blouse with ballet flats, I would have do be the outfit a bit too conservative and mumsy for my liking. But the boots give it an edge. I’ve been avoiding wearing a similar top of mine for the footwear reason-now I know what type of shoe would work. Just got to go shopping now, lol. I don’t think I’d wear shoes like these that much because I’m a Mum of little ones, but if I can find a cheap pair, I’ll go for it! ThAnks once again for another solution to my styling dilemma, ha!

    1. You are right – I tried it with ballet flats, and that’s how I felt. It didn’t quite resonate for me. I did link a couple similar for less styles at the end of the post. Check those out!

      1. Thank you! Not sure I’ll find those here in the U.K. but I will try. If you needed a jacket with the outfit, would leather work?

  5. I purchased these booties, my spring splurge on myself! I haven’t worn them yet, (except for around the house) as our temps here in New England have dipped as well but I can’t wait for the next warm day! They are super cute and comfy!

    1. No, unfortunately we went to the mall – we wanted to shop for clothes we could feature on our blogs. But I would love to visit the boutiques sometime. Where are the best ones? Are they downtown?

      1. There are some cute places in the Gulch and the 12 South areas. You should check out Reese Witherspoon’s place, Draper James, next time you’re in town! (Also, there are some seriously cute places down in Franklin, if you’re willing to make the drive a little ways out of town. Philanthropy is one to check out–plus, I think you’d like the prayer wall.)

  6. I love the outfit, one of my favorite. The top looks really nice on you, and those photos are awesome!

  7. Love the way the whole outfit comes together. It would look great with espadrille wedge sandals or even lace up flats. Your jewelry selection is perfect!

  8. Well no wonder you couldn’t choose which ones to use…they are all great! I bet that was a lot of fun! (and your weather report in the email made me chuckle) Looks like y’all left Nashville just in time. Yesterday morning they made all the girls in my daughters dorm go to the basement of the student center due to the high winds and tornado watch. (she was so mad…she missed an extra couple hours of sleep #collegegirlprobs) So glad you girls had fun!!!

  9. Super cute outfit……………. I love everything about it and it looks great on you.. I’ve got to have these shoes or at least some similar to these.

    Have a wonderful Thursday!

  10. These photographs are so complimentary to you JoLynne. The outfit is super cute and works for so many of us ladies. You and Cyndi are doing a fabulous job in helping us pull our look together.

  11. Love love love this outfit! I don’t think the top looked too big on you at all. And also, I love that you didn’t do a front tuck! Lol. Not a big fan of the tucking thing. 🙂

  12. Love this outfit, the pics and the weather report! The top is so pretty and perfect for spring. Thanks for sharing!

  13. LOVE those booties – will definitely be looking for some like them on sale. Pictures were great – I’m off to see what Cyndi is wearing. 🙂

  14. Adorable! This outfit looks so fresh! I am not sure about some of the floral patterns coming out this spring but this top looks nice how you have it styled! I am the same with my Alex and Ani bracelets… I wear them almost every day and love the ones that I have picked out for myself as well as the ones my kids picked out for me. Those are a great shoe for the spring and I am keeping my eyes open for a more affordable pair.

  15. ABSOLTELY LOVE THIS OUTFIT!!! When I saw you in a print, I realized (that like me) you wear solids a lot more than prints —— BUT I LOVE IT – you look amazing JoLynne!!!! Love the booties, too…. OK… I know I’ve said it once before — but this is my “new” favorite out you’ve styled!!!! xo —- off to purchase that blouse 🙂

  16. You look really cute in the outfit. I love prints since last Spring. I usually wore solids. Cyndi got me on prints. 🙂 LOL The area you had the pictures done is perfect. I think the size of the shirt looks perfect too. 🙂

  17. I’d love to see the shirt styled different ways! Remix posts are fun and helpful since that’s what we all have to do in real life. Another great look!

  18. I love this outfit, from head to toe! Did you have to cuff the jeans or are they made like that? When you cuff your pants yourself, do you lay them on the bed to ensure the cuffs are the same or do you just eye them? I saw a woman in a pair of jeans she had cuffed, and the cuffs were uneven. You and Cyndi really need to stop sharing so many tempting items! Ha! I’ve got to learn to have better control and only buy what I love and can really use!!

  19. Hi Jo-Lynne
I was an avid follower of yours for a couple of years until something happened around Dec 16th and I can no longer receive your daily emails. I have tried desperately to sign up again and the system won’t let me. I can only follow you through Cyndi Spivey. Have I been blocked? I hope not since I love your fashion advice and look forward to it daily. Please advise me as to what to do. Thank you, Pam King

    1. Oh my goodness, no you have not been blocked! I changed email providers because I was having so much trouble with my old one delivering emails. My guess is you got “suppressed” from the old list somehow, so when I moved those email addresses over to the new one, yours wasn’t in there. This has happened to several people. My apologies! The new email service has been much more reliable. Here is the signup: https://eepurl.com/cwmrqX

Or I can manually add you. If you’d like me to do that, let me know.

  20. Love this look. Do you think there is an age range for Kate Spade? My husband was shopping for me once and the sales person made a comment about age and directed him to Tory Burch.

    1. WHAT!?! That is crazy! Where was he shopping? I consider the two fairly comparable in quality and price. Maybe Tory appeals to a slightly younger crowd, but they are both pretty classic. I like them equally. I also really like Rebecca Minkoff – her style is slightly more edgy (not that edgy = young, necessarily) – and I find that her prices aren’t quite as high as the other two, although they’re starting to creep up there. I guess with popularity comes a higher price tag. She makes a nice quality bag as well.

  21. Love everything about that outfit! Really cute look!
What lip color/brand are you wearing? It looks great!

  22. Thank you for all your work and the thought you put in your blog. My closet is already more fun. I am older than you and Cindy but I still enjoy a more casual look rather than looking like I’m ready for a walk down Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. Yes I am a Californian. I really like your style.

  23. This is one of my favorite outfits you’ve ever styled. I’m sorely tempted to buy that bag – it’s so gorgeous! You’re a bad influence.. .

  24. Great pics! I really love this top with the way it comes down a bit in the back.
This looks like a perfect Spring outfit 🙂

  25. I love everything about this outfit! Such a Flirty yet urban look for Nashville (and anywhere for spring). I really really love those boots and plan to add some version of them to my spring wardrobe. The perforated look for shoes is perfect for spring into early summer. Can’t wait to see more of your Nashville pictures. You should do some blogging pictures from old city Philadelphia. Beautiful in spring, summer , and fall.
