Floral Sleeveless Shift Dress

Well, friends. Yesterday was a rough one, wasn’t it? I was horrified and sickened to hear the news coming out of Orlando when I got out of church yesterday. I feel like this is becoming our new normal, and it’s frightening and sad.

I always feel awkward writing about fashion and other frivolous topics immediately after a mass tragedy like this, although I know people are suffering in a myriad of ways every day, and life goes on. But I also can’t pretend like nothing happened. My heart hurts for our country. I know this side of heaven, evil people will sometimes have their way, but I long for the day when truth and justice will reign forever and ever. I can only pray that some good will come out of this latest tragedy.

Today is Day 9 of my 22 Days of Summer Fashion style collab with Cyndi Spivey, and as they say, the show must go on.

This bright coral and white floral sleeveless shift dress with crochet lace detail is a summer classic. Dress it up with wedge sandals or down with flats.

This sleeveless shift dress came from Trunk Club, and as soon as I pulled it out of the box, I knew I was going to love it. The bright coral and white floral pattern with crochet lace detail on this shift is classic and summery and reminds me a Lily Pulitzer piece, but at a fraction of the cost. Unfortunately, it went on sale during the Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale and promptly sold out. Womp. Womp.

It is, however, available in green and blue, and both of those are super pretty too. In fact, I almost like the green better than the orange.

As pretty as it is, I feel like the dress would be more flattering if I had it taken in a little bit in the waist area. I have a call into a tailor that who has worked on my curtains before, but she has a wait list so… I wait.

I considered wearing my white dress sandals, but I ended up with these neutral chunky wedge sandals because the style and weight of the dress is more on the casual side. Those are almost sold out, but a few other options for neutral wedge sandals are here and here. This dress would also be cute with a strappy flat sandal like the Sam Edelman Gigi or Tory Burch Miller Flip Flop.

We took these pictures when we were at the Hyatt Chesapeake a few weeks ago. (See my review here. If you’re looking for summer vacation recommendations in the mid-Atlantic region, I highly recommend it.)

There are so many scenic spots, we had a hard time choosing just one.

I kept the accessories minimal because the print on the dress is so busy. I just added gold chandelier earrings and a cuff bracelet.

This Tory Burch saddlebag is my favorite summer bag. I am so glad I got it in ivory and not brown. It goes with absolutely everything in my closet. It’s on the small side, but it holds the essentials.

This Tory Burch Serif T Saddlebag is my favorite summer bag. It goes with absolutely everything in my closet.

If you have a bridal or baby shower, graduation party, or another summer event coming up, this is a great dress for those types of occasions.

  1. Love the dress on you! And I have to say I am loving the neutral color sandal trend. I bought a pair of gladiator sandals in brown and loved the comfort but thought they made my legs look as if they’d been chopped off. Then I remembered your use of more neutral colored footwear and reordered the gladiators. I love them and get compliments all the time, so thank-you! Have a great day.

  2. This dress is great for summer—with all the pattern & trim, it’s nice not to have to think about the accessories as much!
It’s really a great length on you—even your white flat sandals would look okay, don’t you think?
I hear what you’re saying about taking it in at the sides—it would probably make you feel better in it, but I really think it’s lovely as is!

  3. I love the color and pattern! I have the same issue with shift dresses though – they need to tuck in at the waist more. I look like a box in them. 🙂

  4. Love this dress. I really love the green and wish I could wear this style. But I’m way too curvy for a shift dress, unfortunately.

I also have that TB purse and it’s great! I got it on black and a Coach crossbody in Ivory at the same time, and I’m still kicking myself I didn’t get the oppsite–the TB in ivory and Coach in black. Oh well!

    1. Shift dresses are tough. I was disappointed when I saw these pictures, to be honest. It really needs some tailoring, but what a pain! LOL.

I am sure the TB purse in black is gorg!! What Coach bag did you get???

  5. What you wrote in the introduction to this post was so well stated. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this. I couldn’t agree more with you. Also, sometimes the frivolous things in life, like looking at pretty clothes, help lift our spirits when events of the world make us sad. I found your blog about a year ago through Cindy Spivey’s and have been enjoying it ever since.

  6. Jo-Lynne – I am also praying for the people affected by the tragedy in Orlando.

I am hoping to place a Stella and Dot order this week – do I need to do anything besides select you as my stylist? Are there any special promo codes for a first order? THANKS so much!

  7. JoLynn,
I’m not a commentor, but wanted to let you know that even the “frivolous things” like fashion are a ministry. In the perspective of the recent tragedy, fashion may seem irrelevant, but you and Cyndi have helped me be relevant to my teen DD for whom the “frivolous” is very important! Following your suggestions and updating my closet have given us some great connecting times. Thankfully my other 3 DDs think I’m always pretty. ???? Thank you for what you do!

  8. The dress is beautiful and you wear it well! I hope you continue your blog, You and your blog have inspired me! I have a hard time selecting my wardrobe and accessories.

  9. Beautiful pictures! Your husband really has an eye and he makes you look gorgeous! I am on the hunt for a new watch. Do you have any suggestions. It needs to be in the range of $200 or less. Trying to decide if I want two toned gold/silver or white/silver or all gold. I have a mostly silver watch now. Have seen a white ceramic and silver DKNY watch that I like.

    1. I like having a two-tone watch so I feel I can wear it with gold or silver jewelry. This one is on sale: https://rstyle.me/n/bskba6gthw

This is a popular style: https://rstyle.me/n/bska8ngthw

I LOVE this but it’s trendy and not as versatile as the others: https://rstyle.me/n/bska9agthw

This is pretty for silver: https://rstyle.me/n/bskbazgthw

This is a pretty ceramic one, not seeing a lot of those these days: https://rstyle.me/n/bskbc5gthw

Or this is all white: https://rstyle.me/n/bskbdvgthw

      🙂

      1. Thanks so much for taking the time to post those links! You have given me a lot to think about in deciding what to get.
