For Those Early Bird Holiday Shoppers . . .

Lord + Taylor disclosure

I wasn’t going to start my holiday gift guides until after Halloween, but when Lord + Taylor reached out about partnering on a post this month about holiday gifting, I decided I better get this party started!

If you know me, you know I’m a last-minute holiday shopper. I prefer to shop when the stores have decked their halls and Christmas music is wafting over the airwaves, but that’s why I’m usually in a frenzy leading right up to Christmas Day. This year, I’m trying to gather ideas and make my list early.

Lord + Taylor has a wide range of gifts for every member of the family, and right now you can take an additional 20% off many items with code HARVEST.

A few items that immediately caught my eye for gift ideas were this leopard print scarf and Fossil leather backpack.

This backpack is the perfect gift for the mom on the go who likes to be hands-free. It’s such a chic look and a great alternative to a crossbody.

This bag is on the smaller side, so it’s not going to hold sippy cups and toys, but it will hold all of her purse essentials.

It’s also great for travel and sightseeing because it’s lightweight and zips up for security purposes.

This “cashmink” scarf in the of-the-moment leopard print (it also comes in camel) is soft and cozy, and the price is a lot more affordable than cashmere.

(There is also a cashmere option if you’re looking for a super luxe gift for a special someone.)

And speaking of luxe cashmere gifts, Lord + Taylor’s essential cashmere turtleneck is a closet basic that can stand alone or layers beautifully under vests and jackets all fall and winter long.

It comes on a gazillion different colors, and it’s under $100. For size reference, I recommend sizing up if in between; I have the medium.

Not a turtleneck girl? They also have crewneck and v-neck versions.

Then there are these waterproof wedge booties. I think they’re the perfect combination of chic and practical for those who live in colder climates with messy weather, plus they’re sooo comfortable to walk in.

You can’t go wrong with a Sorel boot for winter weather, and Lord + Taylor has several styles to choose from. Unfortunately they aren’t part of this promotion, but they make great gifts nonetheless.

But I think the piece I am MOST excited about is this quilted vest.

If you’ve been around for a while, you may remember a burgundy layered look puffer vest I wore almost to death last winter.

This one is by the same designer — Marc New York — and I love the combination of shiny puffer fabric and the knit insets on the sides. It’s also packable if you want to tuck it into your suitcase for a cold weather vacation.

I love the look of a puffer vest layered over a cashmere turtleneck, and you can throw a scarf on top for added warmth and interest.

This is the perfect chic but practical outfit for all of those outdoor activities this fall and winter.

This is also a great time of year to shop for coats. They’re on sale but not picked over yet, and you have all season long to enjoy them.

I also love giving and getting coats as gifts.

This faux fur trim hood puffer coat is also by Marc New York, and it has such a flattering shape to it. Plus it is suuuuper warm and cozy.

I really like the shiny fabric and pure black faux fur hood — it’s a puffer coat with a touch of glam! This coat definitely has an urban vibe that I love, but you get the warmth and practicality of a puffer.

It has both chest snap pockets and front hip zip pockets, and the hint of velvet trim also adds to the luxe, downtown vibe.

For size reference, I have a small in both the coat and the puffer.

  1. LOVE the outfit! I was really hoping to get the Sorel boots for the 30% off that L&T was offering a few days ago, but even though the Sorel brand wasn’t listed in their exclusions, it must have been one of them because I kept getting an error message. I ended up ordering that pair and another pair from Zappos, because I couldn’t decide which I wanted, and Zappos has such easy returns. I also love the scarf, but I find I don’t wear scarves as part of an outfit (w/ my winter coat, yes!). But as part of an outfit, I end up being annoyed by it. Even though I always think they look wonderful on other people. I will also have to check out the vest…hopefully it comes in other colors, because I already have a black puffer vest, and would prefer another color, if they have them.

  2. I love everything about this post. And, it’s nice to see things from Lord & Taylor since we don’t have a store in this area anymore.

  3. You look so pretty in the color of that sweater!  And I want to compliment Allison on the photography.  Everything is perfect in all of these pictures!  We are having a very wet day down here, but we need the rain, so I’m not complaining.  Since all of my chores but washing the towels are done, I can spend most of the day reading.  Enjoy your day!

  4. You hit it out of the park with this outfit, Jo-Lynne. I love it all. I know it’s simple but it’s so put-together, practical and definitely my style for my mostly-casual life. The Sorel boots are already sold out in my size. ☹️ Of course, do I NEED them? I do not. But I love the updated style. And Zappos has them. And I have a code for $ off! Might have to do it. The vest is gorgeous. I have one that’s almost identical from Wolfskin which is a UK brand.

Style question. I bought WHBM coated skinny jeans in gray thinking I could pair them with different black tops for casual holiday parties. (If you haven’t seen them, check them out! they are high rise, but not super high.) What shoes should I wear? Pumps are an easy answer but I just don’t care for the look. And booties seem too casual. Any ideas? I also have the jeans in black (replaced a pair of coated blk jeans I literally wore out.)

  5. Totally swooning over the turtleneck sweater AND the grey boots. Trying to figure out if I want to purchase one or both. I am sure my hubby will LOVE me!

  6. I need that backpack! As a grandma who sometimes watches her toddler grandchild it would be the perfect purse for shopping etc
    P.S. Love the outfit.

  7. Good morning Jo-Lynne,
I love everything about your look in today’s post. Can you tell me what color the cashmere turtleneck top is? In real life does it work for a cool undertone?
I also have A couple questions about the boots. 1. Are the comfortable (I like you, I have finicky feet and we definitely have ice and snow in MN) 2. Did you keep the ones you modeled?

    1. Hey Deb. This color turtleneck is definitely for a cool undertone. It’s the Rouge color.

These booties are about the most comfortable pair of booties I have ever worn. Seriously, awesome for finicky feet. Plus so warm. I am definitely keeping!
