Forget Spring!

It occurred to me, after reading Georgia Mom’s post about spring, that what I have isn’t Spring Fever at all.  It’s Summer Fever.

Spring in Pennsylvania is unpredictable and inconsistent.  It may be 85 degrees and sunny one day and 55 degrees and rainy the next.  Our wardrobes range from the warmest sweaters to the barest tank tops.  A few nice days get me all geared up for spring, only to be knocked off my feet by the next blast of icy air.

Spring is overrated.

I’m longing for the dog days of summer.  I love the heat, the sun, the lazy days, the pool, the flip flops, the kids at home all day, the sundresses, the bare feet, the long evenings hanging out on the sidewalk with the neighbors — I love it all.

And it feels so far away.

  1. I have to say that I wish we had a real spring. And a real winter. I can do without ridiculously hot summers.

That being said, my spring bulbs are coming up and it’s freezing outside, so you definitely have a point.

  2. We got from 50 to 95 here overnight in North Texas. I’ve started my annual “Hope Springs Eternal” bathing suit in which I order a few bathing suits from a catalog, try them on in my home and wonder if anyone makes a cute bathing suit that actually can hold up to playing with your kids in the water.

    SIGH.

  3. I’m totally there with you. I love summer time for all the reasons you listed + I’m a teacher and that means I get to stay home with my little sweeties. Hurry Summer!!!!!

  4. I’m delurking long enough to say, “Bite your tounge, Girl!”

I relish the few days of spring we have here because the summer is regularly in the triple digits!

Spring is the time I can work in the yard without having to get up at 0-dark-thirty in the morning to beat the heat!

  5. Well, I guess you’ll just have to come to the ATL to get some real spring! I cannot wait to be able to run around outside and see the spring flowers! Spring Fever! Oh yeah!

  6. Ah, we won’t see 80s here until June. I’d welcome a just a single sunny day slightly above freezing so I could air out the kid and put some real, fresh, un-stale oxygen in my own lungs. Summer sounds great and I’m all for it, yet like you said it’s still so far off I hesitate to set my sights on it. Better to aim low and not be disappointed. Bring on the mud and the low 40s – I ain’t picky at this point.

Oh, the cheerfulness! Don’t you wish you could get some of what I’ve got? (Hee hee.)

  7. I’m with you! Here in Indiana we never know if Easter will have us in heavy winter coats or little sundresses and sandals. I’d be happy with 70-90 degrees all year I think…except fall. I love fall!
