Full Moon?

So I want to know this.  Was there a full moon this week?  Because good golly miss molly, this week has been a DOOZIE.  It’s been a conglomeration of a bunch of stupid little things, and a couple of pretty big things, although for the most part I couldn’t even tell you half the things that have gone wrong in the last two days.  Except, of course, being without my blogs all day yesterday; I certainly can tell you about that.  Suffice it to say, if it could go wrong, it has gone wrong, and I am more than happy to bid adieu to this trying week and proclaim a hearty TGIF.

I already got a run in this morning, so that’s good.  Actually, it was more of a walk than a run on the account of me staying out until midnight last night and then sleeping later than usual and then wanting to get my exercise in before my husband leaves for work.  So I went out without my coffee.

But you know what?  It was nice.

The humidity broke last night, and the air was crisp.  The sky was blue, the birds were singing, and I actually turned off my iPod and just basked in the goodness of summer as I walked beside fields of late-summer corn shading me from the blinding early morning sun.  I think I might do a day of walking without the iPod every week, just to keep it fresh.

Hey Jo-Lynne, why were you out till midnight?

I knew you’d ask.  You’re so predictable.  Well, I’ll tell you.  Thanks to two good friends who jumped out of their pajamas and into their cars at the mere suggestion of a drink, I had a little nightcap at the Cheesecake Factory after a rather traumatic hair cut.

My hair is thinning; it has been for a long time, but one side was so bad that we decided to chop it all.  It’s cute and all, but I have this irrational fear that it will never grow back in and now I have less of it than ever.  (Yes, I have an appointment to see my doctor, I just have to wait 3 weeks, and try not to stress.  Yeah, riiiiiight.)

But I do want to say kudos to Cheesecake Factory for a smart addition to their menu — a page of “small plates and snacks” that are perfect portions for those of us who have small appetites or are watching our calories.  I highly recommend the Chicken Samosas and the mini crab cakes. Melissa and I split those, and they were heavenly.

So today I plan to take it easy, do some laundry, and take the kids to the pool.  And tonight I’m going to try to make homemade pizza for the first time ever.  It’s probably crazy to attempt something that new and potentially frustrating during a week where Murphy’s Law prevails, but I’m going to throw caution to the wind.  I like to live dangerously. And how bad can it be, really?

Wait.  Don’t answer that.

    1. Yes, yes, but right now it looks like a bird made its nest in my head. I need to shower and coif first. 🙂

  1. Yes, there was a full moon this week. Sunday, I believe. And this week has been horrendous! Remind me to take a vacation next time there’s a full moon! 🙂

Oh, and don’t worry about the homemade pizza. We make pizza on a pretty regular basis now. It’s oh-so-good, and have only messed it up once (which is saying a lot coming from me!)

  2. Homemade pizza is very easy! So easy in fact, I was making in every week for over a year and then somehow my kids got a little older and realized that my homemade pizza tasted nothing like Domino’s or Pizza Hut’s and began to revolt. “Are we having Domino’s or are we having YOUR pizza?” they began to ask. Grrrrrr….

So wishing there was a Cheesecake Factory close to me.

Hope your weekend is better than your week!

  3. I’m with Neena and Amy. We need pictures of this haircut! 😉

My mom said just last night, “Was there a full moon?” I was telling her about how AWFUL my daughter behaved on Monday night, and that was the logical explanation Mom came up with.

So. I guess it’s possible. The good news about a full moon is that they don’t last, I guess! 🙂

  4. You are the second person this week I’ve seen ask about the full moon. This week has been pretty easy for us, other than Bud getting sick and puking all over his room one night. But that’s just par for the course with toddlers in daycare.

I’m sure you hair is beautiful. Try rosemary essential oil mixed in with your shampoo. Just a drop a day.

  5. Yes, it was so full moon. Customers at work were extra nasty because of it. I remember how much I dreaded it when I worked as a nurse, but full moon in retail is 10 times worse. Hope you have a great weekend!

  6. Good for you for going on a late night run to the Cheesecake Factory. Man, that sounds good! Have you had your coffee by now?

I hope your Friday is a good one!

  7. Ahh, a full moon – that would explain the kids’s behavior on Tuesday. I was about ready to sell them to the gypsies if the gypsies ever come around anymore. Instead I was way overboard as mean mom and ended up calming down a bit a day later. Though the rest of the week wasn’t that great either, including my managing to poison one of my cats with flea medication. He’s looking a lot better after we washed the medicine off.

I wish the Cheesecake factory were closer. My dh and I are looking for places to go with good desserts for our date nights. King of Prussia is about 25 minutes from us which is a little far when one is leaving the house around 7:30 on a Saturday night.

  8. Yep, this week all over my neck of the woods as been pretty ugly. But on a positive, pizza dough (and therefore pizza) is really easy to make. Good luck and enjoy!

  9. Add to my list of things I miss about Philly….friends who will jump OUT of their pajamas for a nightcap after a stressful evening. What I wouldn’t have given to be able to join you three wonderful women.

  10. Sorry about your trying week. I’m sure your haircut will seem better once you’ve gotten used to it. We had a rough week too. My 20 month old, who has never been a great sleeper to begin with, decided to wake up at 3 AM on Monday AND Wednesday nights. I always tell him, “It’s a really good thing you’re cute!” And yes, I blame everything on the full moon! I’m glad you were able to get out to the Cheesecake Factory. Have you ever had the Fried Macaroni and Cheese? So Good! Except not very healthy!

  11. Oh boy! You talked about wither trying to grow your hair out or chopping it off when we met at the coffee shop while you were on vaca. It’s probably not as terrible as you made it sound…I’m sure its not- as I’m sure your friends told you when you met them at “the place that heals all wounds”
    Eagerly waiting pictures! 🙂
Hope your pizza turns out great and your weekend is wonderful!

  12. You’re cute no matter what, so I wouldn’t worry about the hair.

Now, let’s talk pizza. I cannot believe that with all the cooking you do you have never attempted homemade pizza. Seriously, Jo-Lynne, it’s time. (Of course, my idea of homemade pizza is to buy the pre-made dough at Trader Joe’s, use TJ’s pizza sauce–it’s yummy–and their Quatro Formage cheese. Voila! Pizza!)

Have a great weekend, my dear. 🙂

  13. If it wasn’t a full moon, I’m sure as heck dreading one. Holy moses was this a WEEK. I had no chance in making anything I touched work/not break.

I’m with ya on the TGIF. Good grief.

P.S. GOOD FOR YOU for continuing to run!!!!

  14. Oh Jo-Lynne I feel for you. It sounds like you had quite a week. Take a deep breath … the weekend is here!!!! (I think I just wrote that for myself and you) I’ve had an off week too. No catastrophes to share but a blah week. I think I need some a good run or yoga class in my life soon. Drinks at Cheescake with friends sounds like a great remedy. Can’t wait to hear about your pizza! I’m sure the cut looks adorable on you. Have a relaxing weekend! : )

  15. Make sure you ask to get your thyroid checked. It’s one of the biggest culprits for thinning hair.

(And I totally agree that a little drinkie with gal pals can cure a multitude of ills!)

  16. It has been a craptastic week all the way around.
Can’t wait to see the haircut! I have horrifically thinning hair, my mother, her mother, and her mother before her lost all of their hair after having children, and I’m working like the dickens to keep what I have and not be the person people stare at in the grocery store. I remind myself I have many blessings, but it flies out the window when a mom with great thick hair passes by…
How did the pizza turn out?
