Getting Gorgeous

I attended my first Getting Gorgeous event at BlogHer last summer. It was so much fun that when Audrey and Vera announced their April 2011 event in NYC, I immediately requested a ticket. The event was this past Saturday, and I travelled up to the Big Apple along with a bunch of other Philly Social Media Moms in a borrowed Chevy Equinox, thanks to @GMnortheast and Bryner Chevrolet.

Driving into NYC isn’t as bad as it sounds. This is the third time I’ve done it, and I felt like an old pro. I had great riding mates, which helped — big shout out to Mel and Jen and Hillary. (Why did we not get a photo together!?)

We were greeted with mimosas when we entered the room.

Melissa and I made our way around the room and visited with the various vendors, hoping to make connections for All Things Chic. (Are you subscribed?? You know, you should be!!)

We chatted for a bit with Liz Lange and Jane Wagman of Shopafrolic. Yes, that is THE Liz Lange! (Photo credit: Melissa)

Everyone got to take home a pair of these fun flip flops in their choice of size — each pair comes with 2 sets of interchangeable “shoe jewelry”. (Photo credit: Julie of Just Precious)

They also make these Jellies — how fun are they!? I’d love to have a pair in Smoke.

Besides opportunities for networking and making connections, there were stations where we could get our hair and makeup done. I was too busy visiting with old friends to bother standing in line for those services, but those who did looked great.

I was so glad to get a chance to catch up with Jane from Mom Generations. (Photo credit: Jane)

I wish I had more photos. I didn’t bring my camera, so I’m relying on those who did.

Afterwards a small group of us wandered around the city for a while and finally stopped to grab dinner at a small Greek restaurant before heading back to Philly. It was a gorgeous day for walking.

It really was so much fun, and I’m just in awe of Audrey and Vera and their ability to pull this off time and time again.

Big thanks to Audrey and Vera, Degree, all the Getting Gorgeous sponsors, as well as @GMnortheast and Bryner Chevrolet for making this day possible!

Disclosure: At Getting Gorgeous, each attendee received a gift bag with samples from the sponsors. Chevy provided a group of PSMMs with cars to drive to the event as well as a send-off breakfast and gift cards to cover the cost of parking and tolls. 1. That looks like tons of fun!

(I just polished off a slice of “your” bread. I had frozen this loaf and just baked it last night. It turned out great.)

  2. GREAT re-cap, Jo-Lynne! I love that photo of us and I’m so happy we had a chance to chat. So glad it was a sunny day and you guys were able to walk around the city a bit and enjoy the weather after the event! Hope to see you again soon! xxoo

  3. You always do the best recaps. I had so much fun riding up to NYC with you…you rocked those city streets. It turned out to be the perfect day and I had a blast attending Getting Gorgeous for my first time. Good luck making some connections for All Things Chic!
