Hello from Turks & Caicos!

Beaches-Turks-and-Caicos-Italian-Village-Pool

It’s been a while since I’ve written a #CoffeeTalk post. Quite frankly, I got tired of complaining and I was pretty sure no one else wanted to hear more of my laments . . . especially when I was preparing for my second tropical trip in as many months. People don’t have a whole lot of sympathy for your #firstworldproblems when you’re galavanting all over the world and posting beautiful pictures. (See above.)

But it’s been a rough few weeks on many levels… mostly physically, which has a way of wearing you down emotionally as well. Add to that, because of my injuries, I have no outlet with which to release my pent up energy and Jo-Lynne is not a very happy girl.

And you know what they say. If momma ain’t happy…

My kids are probably relieved I’m gone for a few days. My poor husband is stuck here with me. Oh well… for better or for worse, right??

But here I am, once again, in paradise. And it’s pretty hard to be cranky when the view includes palm trees and a pristine swimming pool.

Oh, and this was my bed last night.

RIGHT!!???

We arrived after dark last night, but even by lamplight, I could tell that this Beaches Resort at Turks & Caicos is an incredibly luxurious place to visit — whether for work or play. I knew that was the reputation, but experiencing it took it to a whole new level. It’s particularly interesting to me to compare this to my recent Costa Rica experience. So far, they are very different and yet both are so very incredible.

This morning we heard from the CEO and son of the founder of the Sandals Organization, and I know I say this every time I attend a media event, but it’s so very fascinating to hear straight from the horse’s mouth, so to speak, how innovative companies get their start and manage to be at the top of their game. His passion for his properties and their evolution is contagious. I took vigorous notes. At some point, I’ll try to sort it all out in my head and share some of that with you.

I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to travel to glorious places on business because the costs are significantly reduced and I get experiences I probably wouldn’t have otherwise, but there is also this nagging tug-of-war between the business and the personal. It means that I’m committed to someone else’s schedule, and much of that requires sitting in a conference room when the surf and sand beyond these sterile walls is calling my name. This time it’s only compounded by the fact that my husband is here, and he’s wandering around this gorgeous property alone. I can’t wait to get out there and join him.

I’d love to hear from you if there’s anything specifically you’d like to know about this Beaches resort, or any of them. It’s always helpful to know what you’re looking for from these trips. After all, that’s why brands host bloggers for these experiences. So let me know!

If you want to follow along, be sure you’re connected with me on Instagram and Facebook because I’ll be posting photos and updates over there!

In full disclosure, because I’m a speaker at the Social Media on the Sand Conference, my stay here at Beaches Turks & Caicos is being provided for me, although my husband paid his own way. Most attendees are here at their own expense, albeit a reduced rate. In case you were wondering…

  1. Appreciate your honesty about your travels and the perks you sometimes receive as a blogger. Let all that negative stuff in your life go right now and just enjoy the beauty and relaxation the resort has to offer! What a great opportunity! I have never been there before so I would love to see pics of the resort itself and some of the fun things you get to do there!

  2. I’d be most interested in first hand info about the kids stuff, but, you don’t have kids with you, go figure lol.

  3. Perfect timing! We’re planning a three family vacation (six adults/six kids) for our parents’ 50th anniversary in a couple of years, and are trying to narrow it down between a cruise versus all-inclusive. We want to have family time together, but we don’t want to be stuck together! The per-person cost makes us gulp a bit, since it looks like we’d end up paying more than $700-800 a night with our four kids. Any suggestions for larger families or groups? Thanks – have a wonderful time!

  4. Can’t wait to hear and see what you are experiencing! I hope that you are able to go home feeling refreshed and then rest up and get back into the groove of normal.

(I think the key to Coffee Talk is to do it sporadically and only when you really feel like it.))

  5. my big question is always the foodand drink. I have been to 3 all inclusive and one cruise and can say only one resort hod really enjoyable food and buffets. And drinks were only ok. What are you having there?.. Looks so beautiful

    1. I will definitely write about that! My short answer is, the food is underwhelming. Drinks are inconsistent…. depends on what you like. They have some good liquor. Wine is pretty bad but you can buy better wine (not included in your all inclusive price, though.)

  6. Love the pics! Glad you are somewhere beautiful. I *completely* agree about work related conferences that are at beautiful locations…on the one hand you feel very grateful to be somewhere beautiful. On the other hand it is very difficult to sit and listen all day when a beautiful beach is right in front of you! Spent a week on Cape Cod this summer feeling the SAME way. When I got home I couldn’t decide if it was better to go somewhere beautiful for work OR to be somewhere super ugly and horrible and that way at least you don’t feel bad about learning/conferencing all day.
