Holiday Gifts That Do Good

Now that it’s December, it’s time to get serious about wrapping up that holiday shopping… haha, see what I did there? I’m usually a last minute Nellie with the holiday shopping, but this year I’m determined to finish things up early so I can focus on enjoying our first Christmas in our new home. How about you? Are you still shopping, or have you moved on to wrapping and baking?

If you’re looking for intentional and ethically sourced gifts for the loved ones on your shopping list this holiday season, I have the gift guide for you! Today I’m partnering with Everlane to bring you a roundup of gorgeous gift ideas that are sure to make the recipients on your list feel loved and appreciated.

If you’re not familiar with Everlane, they’re an e-commerce company committed to transparency. They partner with ethical factories around the world to source the finest materials, and then they share those stories with their consumers, including the true cost of every product they make.

Their focus is on classic styles that will stand the test of time, so whether you’re looking for a great cashmere sweater, a quality leather tote, or a pair of classic pumps, you’ll find it at Everlane.

Case in point: this gorgeous cashmere turtleneck sweater.

This sweater is like putting on a bear hug. In fact, I’ve worn it 3 days in the past week. I just can’t help it! It’s so cozy, but also I love the styling.

It has a modern, boxy cut that pairs perfectly with your high rise jeans. Then there is the multi-directional knit pattern that adds interest without detracting from the simplicity of the sweater.

Finally, the split cuffs and the split neck in the back are just a few more fun details that set this sweater apart from the others in your closet.

This limited edition sweater is part of the Everlane premium collection, and it’s made of their softest Grade-A Mongolian cashmere. To allow it to take center stage, I kept the rest of this outfit super simple with black skinny jeans, black sock booties, and my favorite oversized pearl earrings.

I love the elegant simplicity of the look, but you could certainly add a long necklace or layer a coat or vest on top. This sweater also pairs beautifully with plum or burgundy pants, and it looks great with blue jeans and loafers for a more casual look.

If a classic pullover is more your thing, this cashmere v-neck is such a fabulous closet basic. It’s is a high quality cashmere in a tight knit weave, and it’s part of the Everlane $100 cashmere collection. I appreciate the classic on-shoulder seaming, and the reverse stitching detail on the cuff is a nice detail.

This sweater comes in an assortment of great neutrals as well as a few fun colors. Being a sucker for a donegal pattern, I chose the Frost Donegal.

This classic v-neck is the perfect layering piece — wear it over a collared blouse or under a quilted vest or blazer.

It has a slightly relaxed fit, making it perfect for a front-tuck, or you can size down if you want it to fit more closely to the body. For size reference, I’m wearing a medium.

If you have someone on your shopping list who would appreciate a quality leather tote, the Everlane Day Market Tote is a great value.

This bag is classic and understated but certainly won’t go unnoticed. I’ve actually had my eye on this tote for a while (thank you, Meghan Markle) and I’m thrilled to finally test it out first-hand. Okay, enough puns for one day.

This tote is made of 100% Italian leather in a factory in Prato, Italy. Incidentally, for every product Everlane sells, they give you a link to the factory where it is made. Check out the page on their handbag factory!

Even though it’s unlined, this tote has a roomy pocket where you can easily stash your cell phone or other small items you don’t want to lose inside. It’s incredibly spacious, but lightweight to carry, and the flat straps sit easily on the shoulder.

Like most Everlane products, they seem to focus more on neutrals, which makes them especially timeless.

I have a black tote that I love, so I chose the light taupe for this one. It’s such a nice light neutral to compliment any wardrobe.

We’ve been talking a lot this fall about elevating our outerwear wardrobe, and this wool blend cocoon coat is the way to do it. It comes in several fabulous neutrals like black, grey, and camel, but I couldn’t resist this lovely shade of lavender.

This coat is made of a luxurious double-faced wool and has an oversized cocoon shape. I read the reviews and decided to size down to the 6, but I could easily wear the 4. I would definitely recommend sizing down one or even two sizes if you order this coat.

Finally, who doesn’t love to get a new scarf for Christmas?

Okay, maybe you all in the South prefer other accessories, but I can’t get enough of them.

This cashmere scarf is the perfect weight — light enough to wear around indoors if you want to enhance your outfit, and warm enough to protect you from the elements when you step outside. I wore it to the mall on a blustery day last week with a sweater and quilted vest, and I was perfectly comfortable both indoors and out.

After shopping for a while, I started to feel overheated, and I just dropped it into my tote. It isn’t bulky so it doesn’t take up a lot of space. Seriously, this is scarf perfection! Plus also cashmere. #nuffsaid

In addition to their $100 cashmere, $95 alpaca sweaters, classic coats and bags, Everlane also makes a great pair of jeans, high quality leather shoes and boots, and a collection of small leather goods and accessories that fit perfectly into a stocking.

If that doesn’t give you enough gift ideas, I rounded up even more below, or you can peruse their best sellers here. Also, today through 12/5, 2-day shipping is free once cashmere is added to cart.

  1. I have long been an Everlane devotee. They are one of the few companies out there that truly moves beyond “fast fashion” and yet maintains a classic, beautiful aesthetic. Thank you for featuring. I’d love to see more Everlane on your blog. The sweaters look great on you!

  2. Hi Jo-Lynne, you look amazing in all these outfits but especially the brown sweater. That color is wonderful on you. Could you add a nice chunky longer chain or not? Would love to hear about your tea. I need to volunteer for that at church. I have done women’s neighborhood things but am always on the lookout for ideas.

    1. I definitely think you could. I just felt like the sweater is so gorgeous, I wanted to let it be the focal point, but you know me – I’m a plain Jane. A necklace certainly shouldn’t detract from it and would add interest.

  3. Jo-Lynne, I immediately noticed the different patterns in the sweater.  It is beautiful and well made.  The coat is gorgeous.  I am shopping for 2019 gifts now, but from stores that are running sales.  The scenery in these pictures is fabulous, especially that door!  Photography is my step-sons Hobby and he loves taking pictures of doors.  I’m sure your body thanked you for letting it rest yesterday.  Have a great day!

  4. I love Everlane. That cashmere sweater is gorgeous and the detailing makes it look luxurious. Am eyeing the coat too! I like your sock booties. Having been looking for the perfect pair. Where did you get them?

  5. You look fantastic in this brown sweater! Such a pretty color on you and that door is an awesome backdrop! I was wondering if I could get your opinion on a dress. I bought this to wear to my husband’s Christmas party at a nice restaurant. Is it appropriate or too dressy? Also, I have no idea what jewelry to wear with it….do you have any suggestions? Shoes?

    1. I think it’s perfect. I wore a very similar one last year — I did a chunky, blingy necklace and metallic ankle strap sandals, but if it’s cold where you are, you could do pumps and sheer hose or even pumps and tights – that would dress it down just a bit.

  6. I love the brown sweater as well, the texture/pattern is fantastic! I am like you, all last minute at Christmas, but this year I did all my shopping on Black Friday. I made my list, headed out the door at 9:00am and was back home by 1:30pm. Whew! Now just stocking stuffers and a few online orders to come in from Amazon. We picked up stocking stuffers for the dogs at our local Christmas market. It feels great to support local when you can! 🙂 Glad you enjoyed your relaxing day – sounds like you needed it!

  7. I wasn’t familiar with Everlane, but they sound like a great company and from the looks of what you shared, they have beautiful things. I love that wall with the Fleur de lis’ on it. So fun!

  8. I didn’t realize that Everlane was not a brick & mortar store. I love your brown sweater, i’ll Have to check that out in a different color.
Love the door behind you! Where is thatt? It’s striking!

  9. Agree about the amazing backdrops in these photos. Wow! I haven’t bought from Everlane but I’m definitely intrigued by their options.

Funny about the scarf…I live in south Georgia and think a scarf is a terrific gift! I typically wear v-neck or scoop neckline tops so I often need something warm around my neck. With our mostly mild winters, I can often get by with just a light puffer vest and a cozy scarf.

  10. Thank you for featuring Everlane on your blog, I am a fan.  If you ever have the opportunity, could you show their marino wool v neck sweater.  I went into the store in NYC to look at it but they don’t carry all their merchandise in that store.  Since J. Crew has stopped making quality clothes, I’ve been looking for some of the things that used to be staples for them, such as v neck marino sweaters and silk popovers.  Everlane seems to be close to what J. Crew used to be but I’d like to see the fit of more their clothes.

  11. Wow – that stuff looks great on you!  I agree that the coat is big, but the color and style are beautiful.  Everything looks so clean and simple.  I’ve always wondered about Everlane – I’m glad you tried it out for me!  Did you try any of the pants/jeans?  If so, how were the sizes?  I’ve liked the looks of many pairs of pants on there, but I’m skittish about buying online when I know nothing about the brand.
