Holiday Party Outfit

Good morning, friends. Happy Monday! Today is day 8 of 25 Days of Winter Fashion, and this week I’ll be focusing on holiday party looks for different occasions. This is an outfit that would work for certain office parties or home parties, depending on the level of formality required.

I’m actually doing two looks with these coated denim pants and black suede pumps. I almost combined them in this post and then I decided I may as well get two posts out of it, so tomorrow I’ll be back to show this look with an off-the-shoulder sweater.

I realize not everyone wants to wear a sleeveless top when it’s frigid outside, and I usually opt for sleeves for winter parties, but this top was simply too perfect to resist. The fit is great, and it’s super comfortable to wear. I love that I can wear my regular bra with it, and there’s nothing to futz with.

It has this pretty black lace over a blue knit lining and an embellished neckline with a keyhole closure in back.

For size reference, I have this top in a small. It also comes in petite and plus sizes.

Also, these pants are 30% off right now. WOOT! These are coated denim which gives them a leather-like look with the comfort and affordability of denim.

If the coated denim is too edgy for your venue, consider pairing this top with black ponte bootcut pants and pointed toe pumps.

I accessorized with a pair of Stella & Dot mixed metal chandelier earrings and coordinating coil wrap bracelet. I bought these two pieces quite a while ago, and they’re often my go-to for dressier looks.

My nail polish is a new CND shade called Berry Boudoir but I can’t find it online. It seems to be sold out everywhere. I’m wearing the Shellac, but it also comes in Vinylux if you want to DIY it. It’s super popular, which is why it’s sold out everywhere, but I expect it to be restocked soon.

My clutch is old; I can’t even remember where I picked it up, but it’s fun to carry with dressy party outfits. I’ll link up some options in the shopping widget at the end of the post.

Also, these shoes are Stuart Weitzmans and they are like 15 years old… no lie, I know I bought them before we moved to this house, and that was 12 years ago. It just goes to show how investing in quality footwear can pay off over the long haul. They were on sale too, as I recall!

For more of a mid-price shoe, the Sam Edelman Stillson is a similar style, or a nice pointy-toe suede or velvet pump would be great with this look too. I love the Sam Edelman Hazel for that style. And Payless does a great job this time of year with budget-friendly pumps for party looks, like this Christian Siriano pair for $19.

I can’t wait to wear this outfit to an event next month. I’m not sure yet where I’ll wear it, but I’ll find a way, even if I have to take my husband out to a fancy dinner one night. Ha! It would actually work for his holiday party, but I already have a dress for that. Stay tuned for that look later this week!

  1. This is a perfect party look and pretty much what I’ve had in mind for ours. I’m stumped on a top layer for these kinds of looks though. What would you wear over the shell?

    1. I almost brought my leather jacket with me to photograph with it, and I forgot. That could be a little heavy on the leather look though, so I don’t know that I’d do that. Here in Philly it’s so cold that I’ll probably wear my long black puffer coat over it or that wool Paloma coat with the fur hood. Inside, I wouldn’t wear anything. If I’m cold, oh well. LOL. Usually it’s okay inside though.

    2. I’m wondering if a velvet blazer would look good over the lace shell? I just ordered one and wanting to wear some kind of dressy tank or shell under with jeans or skinny pants?

      1. I was just wondering where Suzanne ordered her velvet blazer from as I recently purchased a black dissimilar to yours Jo-lynne.

  2. I know many of my friends are always hot, so this would be perfect for them. Me, on the other hand,—I’m always cold, so I’d have to layer this somehow. I always hate to put a cardigan or jacket over such a gorgeous top because then it hides it. But I wonder if you could wear a black lace shirt under this??

  3. Perfect outfit for those that want some bling but don’t want to wear a dress. I would probably top it with a tuxedo style jacket because I’m always cold. That little clutch is cute!

  4. Love the whole outfit! That top is over the top! WHBM always does a fabulous job! Have a wonderful day!
PS: I don’t see a link to enter the contest.

    1. As far as getting cold, I’d probably wear a pretty lightweight black wrap from outside to inside and then remove it at the party

  5. Hi Jo-Lynne,
How do I register for the Tory cross body you are giving away? So excited about this!  Thank you!

      1. I am usually between 29 and 30 (8 or 10) but on their chart they list 30 as being a size 8 so it had me all sorts of confused…

  6. You look gorgeous in this outfit, Jo-Lynne!  I am in love with this look – a little edgy but classy and put together for the holidays!

  7. Hi! Love you holiday outfits! Question for you: can you offer suggestions for wearing the velvet chemise trend under a blazer or jacket? Not sure if you’ve noticed, but the velvet catches on the outside layer and rides-up. Any help appreciated!

  8. I absolutely love this outfit! It’s perfect. You look spectacular. Definitely find a reason to wear it this holiday season!

  9. Love your top Jo-lynne I bought one in black similar to this one. Was wondering where Suzanne ordered her velvet blazer from.

  10. Love this outfit.  Just my style, but I can’t wear super high heels any longer.  Just not comfortable.

  11. I’ve wanted to try the coated denim but the price on the DL’s was a bit scary. Erin at Trunk Club sent me the Articles of Society coated denim for $79 and I think I’m in love. They are so comfy and will be great for a casual New Years’ Eve or next trip to Vegas!
