Holiday Sparkle // Two Festive Party Outfits

Greetings, friends! I’m headed out to the airport shortly for a conference in Nashville. I’m excited to see so many friends there, including Deborah Boland from Fabulous After 40, and today we’re teaming up for a holiday style collab!

I’ve known Deb for years, and I’m a huge fan of her classy style and smart fashion advice. Today we’re both styling a holiday party look, and the theme is sparkle!

The easiest way to give an outfit a festive holiday flair is to find an item with some shimmer to it.

I was first drawn to this chiffon sleeve blouse for its full-length sleeves and keyhole neckline, but I also love how it has a hint of sparkle throughout the bodice — nothing crazy, just a little dressier than something I’d wear to work or church.

I also like how you’re basically covered up, for those of us who tend to be cold or don’t necessarily like to bare our arms, but the chiffon sleeves allow some skin to show through.

The back also has a keyhole closure, and there are 3 or 4 buttons at the back of the neck. For size reference, I have this top in a small.

I kept the look simple and paired this top with black ankle skinny pants.

You could wear a color, or coated denim, or velvet… there are lots of options, but these 1901 ankle pants are the type of pants most of us already have in our closet, and they keep the look conservative enough for a work or church event.

If you don’t have a pair of classic black ankle skinny pants, I highly recommend these. They’re TTS, or size up if in between; I have the 8.

And I just went with a pair of black suede pumps I had in my closet. I love an all black look — it’s chic and always appropriate.

I carried this metallic envelope clutch for some contrast. It’s one of my go-to bags for dressier events, and it’s also fun to carry with a sweater and jeans if you’re going out to dinner. Very versatile! I highly recommend having a bag like this in your closet.

And finally, I added these flower drop earrings for a little extra pizzazz.

Every holiday season, I like to purchase a fun and inexpensive pair of statement earrings I can throw on with just about any outfit to take it up a notch. When I saw these, I new they were the ones!

I can wear them with everything from a cashmere sweater and jeans to a cocktail dress, and they will give the look a festive flair.

This top is clearly the hero piece of this outfit. By pairing it with closet staples I already own, I can make several different outfits for various occasions.

Here are some other ideas: Tuck it into a faux leather pencil skirt and throw on some strappy sandals for a cocktail party, wear it with black skinny ankle jeans and festive flats for a casual party at home, or try it with a color. I think it would be gorgeous with these emerald velvet skinny jeans, or how about with these burgundy velvet flares???

Or wear it as shown here with trousers and black pumps for a chic all-black look that you could wear to a work party, a church event, the country club, or out to dinner with your honey!

  1. Beautiful outfit! Looks great on you! I love those burgandy velvet flares! Swoon! Have a wonderful weekend in Nashville.

  2. What an elegant and classy look on you!  That blouse is perfect for so many reasons.  Safe travels to Nashville.  I know that y’all are going to have fun, while learning.  I love the UGG booties you are wearing to travel.  I never wore lace up shoes when flying because they were a pain to get on and off for security.  ✈️✈️ 💨 ❄️

  3. Beautiful outfits as always. Wow….I follow you Cindi and just recently Deborah. How cool is that the three of you together!
I have to tell you our temperature is 77 degrees here today in Florida. We are really enjoying the change.
By the way do you know of any gals here in Florida the over 40 age group with a blog? Sometimes it’s hard to find sleeveless or lightweight clothing items for those of us that don’t have freezing temperatures in the winter. Specifically right now I am looking for a light weight thin cardigan to put over a camisole but nothing heavy for cold weather. Shorter sleeves rather than long??
    Have fun in Nashville!!

    1. Hey Jo, no one comes to mind, but I’ll keep an eye out for you. Even the Florida bloggers I follow (they’re much younger) tend to post fall/winter outfits this time of year.

  4. Nashville! I wish I was going. My son is a freshman at Belmont University. I haven’t seen him since August 🙁 I’m looking forward to visiting many times while he is in college!

  5. I love this look. It’s simple and festive without being over the top. But, those velvet flares! 😍 Gorgeous! Wish I had the long, lean body of that model to go with them.

  6. This is so chic, Jo-Lynne and just my style. Chiffon sleeves are definitely a trend I’ve been seeing for holiday sparkle & shine! Are you headed the to the RewardStyle Conference? (Tell Cyndi I said, “Hi”!) That’s my dream to attend a fashion bloggers conference one day! #goals. One post at a time, right?!

  7. Fabulous look! This top is perfect for a bunch of Christmas events I have to attend. And I love that you put together an all black holiday outfit. This was a great tutorial on how to look Christmassy without wearing red and green as a combo.
I hope you publish a book someday. You give so many great style tips.

  8. Love the black on black. You look amazing and it’s a chic outfit that can be worn for any type of holiday party.

  9. That is a great sparkly top. The trouble would be that I have short arms, so I think it would lay awkwardly on them. Do you have suggestions for petite ladies?
