5 Secrets To Perk Up Your Peepers

While I’m in Maine, my friend Corine agreed to step in for me and take on #BeautyBuzz this week. Corine is the beauty and the brains behind the lifestyle blog, Complicated Mama. She’s also a mom of three littles and a confessed shopaholic, so you can see why we can relate! She’s going to share her best tips on how to perk up tired eyes so I’ll hand it over to her!

5 Tips to Perk Up Tired Eyes

Battling tired eyes is something all women can all relate to on some level. We’ve all been there. Staring in the mirror at our exhausted reflection, fumbling through our make-up, trying desperately to cover up those designer bags under our eyes.

As a Mom of 3 (one being an 8 month old who has yet to sleep through the night), trying out a variety of different ways to mask those sleepless nights has become a personal mission of mine. So when Jo-Lynne invited me to contribute to this week’s #BeautyBuzz, I thought I would share some of my tried and true tips, tricks and product faves to help give your eyes a rejuvenated look.

5 secrets to perk up tired eyes

1. Deflate Puffiness

The metal teaspoon freezer trick is one has been around for years and I am here to say– it works!

Here’s how:

Leave 2 teaspoons in the freezer for those days you wake up with puffy eyes.

To instantly reduce the puff, take those freezing cold teaspoons and use the back of the spoons to massage puffy areas.

–Viola!

Another solution? Kiehl’s makes an eye de-puffer that I swear by called Facial Fuel. It is technically from their men’s line, and I may or may not have discovered it in my husband’s travel bag. But since finding this gem, it has officially become mine because I use it all.the.time. It is cool to the skin, instantly makes your eyes feel awake, and is small enough to keep in your bag for wakening those eyes up mid-day (long cross-country flights anyone?)

2. Conceal Dark Circles

IT Cosmetics Concealer

When choosing a concealer, you want to pick a shade or two lighter than your skin tone. I’ve tried many different concealers before finally finding and falling in love with IT Cosmetics Bye-bye Under Eye Concealer. If there is one take away from this post, let it be this one! This baby has become my secret weapon. The difference is miracle-level-amazing. Not kidding.

It is not the most inexpensive concealer on the market, but you only need to use a very small amount so it lasts a long time. The one I currently use, I’ve had for 6 months. (Which, yes I know breaks a few cosmetic rules, but I’m a cosmetic-rebel like that.)

You can find this concealer at Ulta for around $24, but it is also available at QVC for just $6 more with an amazing IT Cosmetic brush. (Side note: These brushes are the best- but that is another post in itself.)

 3. Camouflage Excess Eye Baggage

White eyeliner in the creases of your eyes will help make your eyes look bigger and brighter. And while I know this may sound like an unexpected tip for fighting bags and dark circles, using a taupe eyeshadows along your lower lash line will not only mask your tired eyes, it will give them a little “pop”, leaving them looking rejuvenated.

4. Fine Lines No More

Heavy foundation will draw attention to lines. During the day, in lieu of your foundation, try an eye brightener or highlighter below lines. Also, when choosing a shadow, stick with matte colors as shimmery shadows draw attention to lines and crows feet– this is especially true when in direct sunlight.

5. Caffeinate Those Eyes

Just like coffee perks you up in the morning, a little caffeine on your eyes can also perk up your peepers. This is why black teabags soaked in cold water are a long time favorite beauty trick.

Caffeine instantly reduces puffiness and helps tighten skin making it a great ingredient to have in an eye cream. Pure Cosmetics Organic Coffee Bean Cream smells like coffee and can be used as part of your morning and night time routine. It not only reduces bags and under eye puffiness, but also helps diminish dark circles.

There you have it. 5 of my best tips for awakening your tired eyes. Do you have any others? With solid sleep looking like it may be just a distant memory for a little while longer, I am always looking to add to this list!
