Fashion Over 40: How to Style a Spring Scarf

I’m sharing how to style a spring scarf, and this adorable tassel scarf is only $18 at LOFT!

I’m trying out a new look today. I’m not a huge scarf fan, even in the wintertime when they’re somewhat practical, so I don’t usually wear them in the spring and summer. However, I saw this look on another blog and thought it was so cute I wanted to try it myself.

White on white is a huge trend this spring, so I’m giving it a go with my favorite white jeans and this Shirred Shoulder V-Neck Blouse. I tried quite a few white blouses before I settled on this one. It was a little more than I wanted to spend, but it’s not as sheer as some, and the fit is fantastic, so it’s a keeper.

I picked up this coral whale scarf at LOFT on one of their recent sales. It wasn’t the whales that caught my attention so much as this pretty shade of coral pink and those adorable silky tassels. It is currently marked down to $29.99, plus it’s an extra 40% off, bringing it down to $18!!! The final discount will be calculated automatically when you put it in your Shopping Cart.

How to Style a Spring Scarf

I tried styling the scarf a few ways, but I ended up doing the simple draped look you see here.

I kept all of the components neutral with so the scarf really stands out. I actually sort of like this look — scarf and all! It’s a little fussy for everyday, but I can totally see wearing this outfit to a conference, a school function, or lunch out with friends.

  1. I love this outfit on you! The scarf is such a pretty color. I do like to wear scarves in the spring, so I may get this one. Thanks for sharing!

  2. I wear scarves in the warm weather, even living in hot Atlanta! My warm weather scarves are all lightweight cotton or linen.
I think it gives a more finished, colorful look to an outfit.

  3. Love this look! So fresh and coral is beautiful with white! And bonus, I love the great price and that it has tassels, so cute! 🙂

  4. I think scarves are quite functional even in the spring & summer because most shops & restaurants are downright chilly due to the air conditioning!!
The scarf is such a perfect way to add a little layering, yet easy enough to remove when it gets warmer!! That’s why I love this easy style of wrapping the scarf, I can actually do it without thinking too much!
    Great look Jo-Lynne!!

  5. Love the outfit! I have some spring/summer scarves I love to layer too! If the A/C is cranked up, it’s great to have with you!

  6. I have lots of spring/summer scarves but don’t wear often as I am hot natured. And Savannah is really hot. But I love the look and have all the pieces to achieve the look so will wear to church on Sunday. Love the coral with white. Thanks for the post.

  7. I always liked scarves on other people, just not on me. I don’t like all the bulk on my neck. But I just discovered how to knot them down low instead of at the neck and I am liking them more! You look great!

  8. I have a coral scarf that I picked up a few months ago. I never knew how to style it. Now I know!!

  9. I love the white on white with the pop of color with the scarf!!!
    And those shoes!!!!
    So up my alley!!!!!!

  10. Great outfit, total winner!!! Scarves come in handy if it’s cool inside a building, can wrap around shoulders. ????????????????

  11. Super cute Jo-Lynne! I received a pretty scarf from stitch fix. It is coral and aqua and is surrounded by tasells. Thanks for giving me an idea of what to wear with it.
By the way, welcome to the hourglass shape club. We are shaped somewhat similarly except I don’t have your gorgeous legs. I have a relatively small waist so I need to wear a minimizer that keeps the girls in check and visually takes off a couple LBs. I noticed that clothes that accentuate my waist and offer a V-neck always look better on me. However, I’m still working on my pants issues. Ugh!

As always, thanks for your help and inspiration. It keeps me striving to look more put together and make better shopping choices.

    1. I used to always wear minimizers when I was a teen, but when I lost a lot of weight in my early 20s, I stopped wearing them. I generally don’t like the shape they give me, and they are usually so big they show in my tops, so I finally made peace with the size God gave me and started wearing regular bras. However. Age is not being kind, and I’m getting bigger, so it may be time to revisit the minimizer — especially in certain outfits. I actually ordered one last week but I didn’t like it. I should go to the store and get properly fitted, I guess.

  12. I’m not a big scarf wearer either in the warmer months, but I just picked one up too that’s super lightweight. I am LOVING how you put this all together though. And again, YOUR SHOES. LOVE them!!

  13. This outfit looks great on you, but then all white looks terrific on you. I think I’m too heavy to pull it off. I recently bought a top in the color Kiwi and a coordinating scarf with a simple pattern whose primary color is coral with some kiwi in it. I wear scarfs in Fall and Winter but not typically in Spring and Summer because I’m hot-natured. Well I bought it to wear on Mother’s Day and it looked really pretty but I ditched the scarf right after pictures were taken because — I was too hot! I should have known – LOL! It sure is pretty though. It will be nice in a chilly restaurant though. Wish I could attach a picture for you to see. You would love the colors.

  14. I think it depends on the scarf. Chunky ones don’t really suit me in the summer but a slimmer material works. That coral scarf suits you well and breaks up the white. I wear coral a fair bit in the spring and summer.

  15. I pretty much wear scarves year round because I love them so much. This outfit is beautiful on you, and I love the tassels on the scarf.
