Mixing Grey & Camel

Today I’m teaming up with Nordstrom to share an outfit that combines camel and grey. I hardly ever think to wear these colors at the same time, but they actually play together nicely.

This Halogen crewneck cashmere sweater is the type of wardrobe basic I like to buy ahead for the next season. You know it’s not going to go out of style, and it’s something you will get a lot of wear out of. In fact, I think I buy a new cashmere sweater every year at this time because you can find them on such deep discounts. This sweater in particular as been a workhorse in my wardrobe this year. They also have it in a v-neck version.

This sweater is very flattering. I really like the slits on the sides, and it’s super soft and cozy. It comes in tons of colors. For size reference, I have the small so it runs pretty true to size, or maybe a little big big. I’m not big on layering under sweaters, but if I were, I probably would want the medium.

You may remember these Vince Camuto booties that came from Trunk Club. I haven’t regretted that purchase for a second, except now that they’re on sale, I’m thinking I should have waited. Oh, well. I have enjoyed wearing them.

These are such good quality and very comfortable. Plus, they’re flattering to the foot. I love the dip in the front and the perforated details on the shaft and heel. The stacked heel is on trend and comfortable to walk in. Another option that is available in more sizes is this Vince Camuto pair.

I don’t usually wear camel and grey together, but it’s actually a combination that is becoming more popular, and I kind of like it! I wore this scarf that incorporates shades of beige and grey to pull it all together. My exact scarf sold out, but this one would achieve the same effect.

My handbag is old, but I’ll link to some of my favorites below.

These are my DL1961 Emma legging jeans from a couple years ago. They have a fabulous fit and feel, and they don’t bag out. I thought the lighter blue wash played nicely with the camel and grey tones in this outfit.

I kept my accessories simple — oversized faux pearl earrings and some of my favorite D Yurman pieces that Paul has gifted me with over the years.

  1. I’ve kind of felt the same way about camel and grey… in fact I packed a suitcase which has gray and camel boots and I’m scratching my head right now with which purse to bring. lol! Since you are the fashion authority 🙂 I’m going with the camel and decided it will just be ok!! :-)) Thanks for hosting.

  2. This color combination is beautiful! And don’t you just love it when something you just purchased goes on sale like that? And I love the gray handbag with the outfit. It ties it all together! Thank you for hosting the link-up. 🙂

  3. Fun outfit JoLynn. I have purchased the scarf and the sweater on your recommendation in a few color. I actually wore the camel one yesterday. The Halogen cashmere sweaters are great but the so tend to pill a bit. Need on of the sweater stone.
Question about the earrings, can the larger pearls be wore with a regular ear ring back? Love the large pearl but not so sure about the little pearl in the back. lol also can you show us the back view of your hair?
Thanks and enjoy the warmer weather this weekend!

    1. They do pill, but not as bad as some other sweaters I have. I got a sweater stone, and it works great. As far as the pearls go, I don’t think you see the small pearl at all. You cannot wear them with regular earring backs b/c the big pearl is the one with the hole for the other pearl with the post to go through, if that makes sense. I am actually wanting to find some big pearls for real – without the pearl on the back – b/c these are loose and I fear losing one again. I did keep my extra from the first set, tho. 🙂

  4. I saw the Nordstrom email before seeing your email/picks

I ordered the TOMS faux shearling del ray sneaker … in 3 sizes.

I told myself THATS IT. … but your suggestions ????

    Love the Tory burch sunnies

  5. Ordered both the grey booties and the open toe version — we will see which one works better. I’ll be tempted to keep both, I am sure. I’ve loved all your outfits with these boots and have been waiting for them to go on sale!!

  6. I love wearing grey, but at about this time every year I feel pretty blah with my wardrobe. I think by adding camel and cream to my grey, I’ll feel a little lighter in spirit. It will also be a good transition to Spring. Thanks for the inspiration:)

  7. I really like the 2-Tone Open Front Cardigan as it would be perfect for travelling especially on those cool overnight flights to Europe. Now the question for me is….which color? I adore both colors!

  8. I’ve never worn camel and grey together, but your outfit looks good. Was thinking about how grey and camel flooring, countertops etc. are so in, so why not put them together for clothing too. 🙂 I found a cute sweater on the Nordstrom sale racks awhile back, but looks like Nordstrom is marking down items even more. Thanks for sharing your picks. Also, thanks for your reply on the book The Nightingale. I will probably read it. Have been enjoying your blog since last Spring. Found you after I found Cyndi. 🙂 Have fun with her when you meet up in Nashville. 🙂

  9. I tried the blush pink chunky knit turtleneck sweater. Omg – it was SO short! The weird thing was it fit big everywhere else but looked cropped in the front so that it showed the waist of my pants. And that was an xs! Sent it back.

    1. It is, it’s supposed to be cropped. That’s a fad right now, and I can’t decide if I like it or not. I hated the super long trend, though, so I’m trying out the cropped thing, but most cropped tops are very wide, so not that flattering to my shape. Still, they’re fun for something different. I’m wearing one right now – photographed it this morning. 🙂

  10. I actually love this combo too. It’s different and unexpected but it totally works -similar to mixing black and brown. I was hesitant to mix them before, but I can’t imagine not doing it now, lol.

  11. I just ordered the vneck in green and not only did i get the sale price but I had a Nordstrom Note so made it even better. The booties I was eyeing were sold out in my size, guess not meant to be.
Thanks for the diversity in your styling.
    Annette

  12. Love those gray VC booties! How did you end up liking them? Are you happy with them and are they comfortable in your regular size?
