Hump Day Already?

Seriously, I know it’s horribly cliche, but really.  WHERE DOES TIME GO?  I have no idea.  I feel like it should be Tuesday.  I also feel like it should be July.  I can only imagine how I’ll feel when I’m 60.  Like it should be 2015?

I wish I had an eloquent, touching story to share with you today.  Or a humorous anecdote.  Or even a disjointed list.  But I’m scraping the bottom of the barrel, to be honest.  I’ve been designing like a mad woman.  Between that and shuttling the kids around to their various schools and practices and preparing the Bible study I’m going to be leading every week (starting today), I’m just barely keeping my head above water.

On top of all that, I’ve agreed to help out the PTA with the "Meet the Teacher" feature in the school newsletter.  Basically it’s a way to get to know the teachers a little bit.  And I need to come up with a list of questions to ask the teachers we interview each month.  That is where YOU come in. If you were reading an interview of your child’s teacher in the school newsletter, what would YOU want to know?  What would your KIDS want to know?  Kindly leave your suggestions in the comments.  Thanks!  Y’all’s the BEST!

So then there’s this little matter of Martha Stewart’s talk show.  My ambitious and adventurous friend Sarah managed to secure us tickets to next Wednesday’s
“Blogging Show” when the ENTIRE audience will be other bloggers.  AND the
celebrity guest is known to be an avid celebrity blogger to boot.  I so want to go.

But we would have to leave at 0-dark-hundred to get to NYC in time for the taping, and we wouldn’t get back until late afternoon.  And that brings up all sorts of inconvenient child-care issues.  Fortunately Sarah is in that liberating stage of parenting when her kids are all in the same school on the same schedule for the whole live-long day.

I, on the other hand, have a small child at home all day, another child who has to be picked up from school at 11:15, and yet another child coming home on the bus at 3:30.  And to top it off, I am scheduled to lead and host a ladies’ Bible study that morning.  SO.  I probably won’t go.  There are just too many logistical hurdles to overcome.  I know it could be worked out, but frankly, it’s too exhausting.  I really have no idea how moms that work outside of the home juggle childcare.  I am in awe, truly.

Well, for having nothing to say this morning, I sure did manage to say a lot.  And now I need to get off the ‘puter and get my kids ready for school.  And somehow manage to stop this infernal phone beside me from beeping.  I swear, it’s possessed.  It keeps beeping at me for no apparant reason.  My guess is my 2-year-old was playing with it while I was surfing blogs earlier.  Am I actually supposed to be responsible for her while I’m online?  Yep, you got the 2008 Mother of the Year right here.

  1. Feeling you on the time thing. I have no idea where it goes. Sometimes I feel like my head is actually spinning.

  2. 0-dark-hundred would not be fun. Nor would the childcare hurdles. But a Martha blogging show? That would be cool.

As for the teacher questions… I would NOT want to know where they went to college. Yawn. I’d want to know who their favorite author is. What they like as far as pizza toppings. The last movie they saw in a theater. Think meme and ask along those lines. Those are always the funnest questions that give true insight to the person behind the teacher.

  3. Ask for favorites-restaurants, books,sports/teams,hobbies…. then it would be a good source for parents at the holidays trying to find a gift for the teacher. It may also help limit the dreaded teacher gifts (apples, coffee mugs etc.).
Our school has little bios on each teacher on their website. Its cute and gives a window into who the teachers are and a little about their family.

  4. What a great idea – I think kids would love to read about what their teachers were like as kids – favorite toys, cartoons, games, subject, sports. My kids love to hear stories about when their dad & I were their age.

  5. Being a teacher… I always like when parents or kids ask what my favorite school memory was when I was younger or my favorite place on earth that I have visited!

  6. Definitely some suggestions for presents other than scented candles.

What about asking them to share some comments from their school reports?

Pity you will miss the blogging show – be sure let us know who appears on it when you watch it, as we don’t get her shows here. (But we do get Dr Phil and Oprah among many other US shows).

  7. I was thinking about what I’d like to know so I’d have the knowledge to buy the teacher a gift. Either during the holidays, birthday, teacher appreciation week or end of the year. Or even just being able to bring them a coffee randomly during the year. I know one of my girls’ teachers goes to (limits herself) Starbucks every Friday but I’d love to pop by during the week and bring her what she loves 🙂

What’s your favorite dinner? dessert? restaurant? bagel?

What do you order at Starbucks?

Do you have a favorite charity?

    Favorite sport? team? college?

Are you loyal to one salon? Where?

  8. You could phrase the gift hunting suggestions in a question like this…”My idea of the perfect day would be???”

Sorry you can’t make it to see Martha. Actually, I would be more interested in the famous blogger than that insane women known as Martha Stewart!

  9. I will have to check out that Martha blogging show – very cool. I, too, would be too tired to work out going to something like that though it sounds like fun.

It would be nice to know teachers’ favorite kids books and what they do in their spare time – hobbies. I also like the idea of knowing their favorite Starbucks drink. I think they always appreciate gift cards, but appreciate even more if you show up with their fav drink – ’cause not only are funds limited, so is their time in the morning.

  10. Oh my golly I would SO have to figure out a way to get to that show, but that’s just me. I can’t wait to watch that one!!

Ask the teachers what they liked about school when they were kids. Makes ’em more relatable for the kiddos, I think! Good luck with all the stuff you have goin’ on. I feel ya and I only have pre-schoolers! AH!

  11. I do wish you could come. Then I could use your laptop – hahaha. No, I would really love the company but your day will come and then you will have to hold OPC (Other people’s children)like I do yours to enjoy the age yours are now. They are so adorable. Enjoy every minute. New York will still be there when the time is right (and probably Martha Stewart too)!

  12. -What is the best gift you’ve ever received?
-What is the funniest thing a student has said to you?
-What is your favorite thing to do to relax?
    -Who do you most admire?

  13. This gave me some really good ideas for back to school nite next week. (A night that I really DO NOT enjoy…sorry) BUT I think I will start with…
Good evening.Thank you so much for coming.
    I love pepperoni.
I think that a Peppermint Mocha from Starbucks is a drink made from heaven.
I love kicking back with a good People magazine.
I wish I could have a beer right now. In fact, I think I will. Good night.

    Does that sound good? 🙂

  14. I didn’t even think about you! I was going to get tickets to Martha, too, but I didn’t for the same reasons you mentioned.

Questions for teachers: favorite book, favorite TV show, favorite sports team. Maybe where they were born? Any pets?

My daughter was on the school newspapers and they always did teacher interviews and those seemed to be the kind of questions they were interested in.
