Insta Recap / Coffee Talk

Good morning, and happy Sunday!

insta recap

I’m combining my Coffee Talk and Instagram Roundup today since I didn’t get a chance to do one yesterday. I slept in until something like 7:15 yesterday morning (so unlike me) and then we wanted to get some pictures taken for the spring fashion series I have coming up, so I just threw up a post I already had written and ready to go.

This week has been a little nuts, with the NYC trip in the middle of it. I was relieved to have a weekend without much going on, although it filled it up quickly!

Last night my husband and I went to a concert in a local coffee bar. It was really fun. John Eddie is what I’d describe as a Bruce Springsteen wannabe — and I mean that in a good way. He’s a good entertainer and a talented musician, and we had fun. Plus, it’s nice to hear live music and not have to drive into the city.

We were seated RIGHT NEXT to the stage, and beside the drums, at that. I snapped this picture before they came on.

It was loud, but very cool.

I wore this camo tee that  I picked up at Lulu’s when I saw it on Instagram a few weeks ago with my black distressed jeans (similar) and ankle boots (similar).

Speaking of driving into the city to see live music, I scored last minute tickets to see Carrie Underwood on Monday night in Philly. I am soooo excited. I love her music, and she seems like a class act. I watched her win American Idol when she was just a kid, and it’s been fun to watch her grown into a powerhouse vocalist and entertainer.

She’s partnering with Carnival Cruiselines and Operation Homefront on an initiative designed to support military families. We have a few military families in our lives, and I’ve seen first-hand how much they sacrifice to serve our country, so I was excited to team up to help spread the word. If this is a cause that resonates with you, you can make a donation on the carnival.com website.

Plus these commemorative dog tags are available for purchase at merchandise stands at all Storyteller Tour stops as well as on board the fleet of Carnival ships with all proceeds going to Operation Homefront.

So it has been quite the exciting week, what with all this and my Survivor event last Tuesday. I already shared about that, so I won’t rehash it.

Yesterday morning, we passed some time in a local coffee shop while my daughter was in dance class. Here’s the obligatory Instagram documentation. Gotta love coffee shops that stock gluten-free treats. I wish Starbucks would get on the bandwagon.

We took the opportunity to get some pictures while we were downtown. It was in the 50s so I broke out some spring clothes.

This striped tunic is 40% off at LOFT right now, and it’s the perfect spring sweater. I love it because it’s lightweight but has long sleeves, so it’s great for early spring when it isn’t that warm, but you are tired of the dark winter colors. It will also be great for me when I’m in Maine this summer. It can get chilly up there in July, but I still like to look summery.

So that’s about all that’s new. I went running yesterday for the first time in almost two weeks. I was shocked when I looked at my Runkeeper and realized it had been that long. With the snow and then the cold, I’ve just been hibernating.

I do have this weird thing going on with my knee. It’s like it keeps wanting to hyper-extend, and it happens at the most random times. I have to admit, I’m a little bit worried. I have a history of odd, unexplainable injuries that everyone wants to blame on running, but I really don’t think running is the primary culprit. This has been happening on and off for a few weeks, and yesterday it got worse. It started before I went running, though. I first noticed it when I was stretching in bed, before I got up. So . . . it is just weird.

I didn’t run today, thinking that after a 2-week break, I probably shouldn’t go out two days in a row, in case that is exacerbating the issue. I felt totally fine when I was running yesterday, for what it’s worth, so I’ll probably go out tomorrow if nothing worsens and see how I feel. I guess I should call the doctor and get it looked at. I swear, there’s no rest for the wicked!!

So I need to get going to church, but in case you’re interested, here are a few more shots from my Instagram this week. I took this picture when my LOFT order came in. I’m LOVING this open stitch boat neck sweater, and I can’t wait until it’s warm enough to start wearing it.

I snapped this selfie earlier this week before we went outside to take pictures of the outfit. These are pants, not jeans, by the way. You can get all the details in this post.

And I took this picture last Sunday on Valentine’s Day. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are my love language.

This was my outfit last Sunday. Everything is old, but it is proof that I do sometimes wear a dress.

  1. Great post! Your puppy is goofy. Since you’ve seen pics of our babies, you know they can’t do that with us. It seems like y’all had a great week. PLEASE get your knee seen about! Letting something like that go can make it worse down the road. I’ve been through knee surgery, so I get it. Have a blessed day!

  2. I love your casual vibe! Every outfit looks comfy and classy. My hubby and I love going to coffee shops too! It is a great place to work on writing projects or just enjoy the atmosphere. Have a great Sunday!

  3. LOVE Loft clothing and shop there often since they always seem to have sales with at least 40% off. Those slacks look great and I’m bummed that they no longer have them. Ponte pants? I buy those at Macy’s often and they are a staple in my wardrobe. Nice post today!

Sorry about your knee. What a bummer.

  4. Wow, it does sound like a bust week for you, but also fun and exciting. Take care of that knee! I am a few years older and have many friends that are having knee and hip replacements. It makes me very aware of trying to keep these parts in working order 🙂

    1. I hear ya. That is in the back of my mind. Ugh… I just recovered after a looooong series of injuries. I cannot IMAGINE being back in a brace and off my feet again. I really will lose my mind. I hope this goes away if I get more consistent with my exercise. I think I need to stop stopping and starting and just find my zone again.

  5. Love the outfits you put together this week!
I was wondering what size you’re wearing in the tunic from Loft.? The reviews say it runs big. I’m usually a medium in tips from them, and wondering if I should order a small.
    Thanks. ????

  6. I love that. All of them. I am on a budget for spring and what you style fits with things I already have so if I can restrain myself I should be good to go for spring/summer with a piece or two here and there. So thanks for your blog. I also love coral. Not so much pink that Cyndi said is in this spring. I’ll pass on that. Not my best color.

  7. OMG John Eddie is a dear friend of my husbands!!! He is a wonderful and talented guy and I’m so glad you enjoyed him! I found your blog through Cindy and have enjoyed it so much. Maybe I’ll bump into you at a future JE show!

  8. Hi Jolynne what’s your take on wearing white before Easter? I keep hearing that wearing white all gear long is in now but I wore white pants with a red blazer for Valentines Day and I felt like everyone were looking at me funny for doing it!

    1. I know what you mean. I felt like I was getting some funny looks, myself, on Saturday. I love wearing white jeans in winter and fall and doing so unexpectedly — with a bulky sweater and boots, or with fall colors — because it looks intentional. But in early spring, with just a few weeks till Easter, wearing them with spring-like tops and shoes, I felt a bit awkward. I don’t think it’s WRONG, b/c I really don’t think there is much right/wrong with fashion, but I can’t say I really advise it, or that I will do it again. 🙂 I think I’ll wait till April to bring out my white jeans with spring tops and shoes.

  9. You always share such a well rounded perspective of your life in your weekly recaps. I really enjoy reading them. Thank you for sharing more than just fashions and shopping links.
As a fellow runner, I think you’re definitely making the right decision to ease back into running more regularly. Take it slow, and if the knee issue persists, don’t hesitate to go in for a consultation. Better to take a few weeks off to address a minor problem, than months off if it gets too severe.
Lastly, as the mother of a soldier, I really appreciate your support of Operation Homefront. Our military service members and their families are heroes and deserve the best!

    1. Thanks, I hear ya on the running. What I don’t get is, I just took 2 weeks off, almost, and then this happens WHILE I’m off – makes no sense. But that is my M.O. I swear, nothing makes sense with my injuries. 🙂 Glad you enjoy the recaps!

  10. Jo–Lynne,I really like all of your outfits, and you
    Look so beautiful in them!
    I’m a little, just a little over fifty ????????.
Your posts are so helpful. Thanks again!

  11. Love your post… My church ladies only wear skirts NO pants. Could you give us some skirt outfit ideas? How I wish I could wear slacks on Sunday morning.

    1. I will try. I have a really hard time with them, though. I feel like tops these days are too long to wear untucked with skirts, and tucking them in doesn’t work well for my proportions. I really struggle to find any that I like. But I do get tired of looking at pictures of myself in jeans. 🙂 I tend to wear more dresses in the summertime. I got rid of quite a few last year, though, so I need to replenish. 🙂

  12. I remember seeing John Eddie when I was in college (in Delaware). It was a great show…so glad to hear he’s still in it!

  13. Love the Lulu camo tshirt! Can’t wait to see your spring styling ideas – February is sure flying by which is okay with me! Didn’t know John Eddie was playing back in the area will certainly have to check into his shows always a great time and great music.

  14. Sorry to hear your knee is acting funky on you; stay positive though and I pray it’s nothing. I appreciate the mention of the Operation Homefront dogtags. My husband actually surprised me with a Carnival cruise coming up in Sept. for our anniversary and as a mom of an airman they will be a must purchase for me when we get on the ship. My son is leaving for Afghanistan in April but Lord willing he’ll be home in November and I’ll surpise him with the dogtags when he gets home. He’s a super Carrie Underwood fan so I can just hear him ask does she come with them. Keep us updated on your knee and I’ll keep you in my prayers.
