Instagram Roundup // What I Wore This Week 11.14.16

Happy Monday, friends! I hope you enjoyed your weekend. Ours was full but fun. My son’s birthday party yesterday was really nice. We always enjoy hanging out with family, and it was good to catch up with everyone.

Today is his actual birthday, so I officially have a 17-year-old. One more year, and he can vote. I know it’s cliche, but it’s hard to believe. Fortunately most of his close friends are older, so it has prepared me a bit to see them going through all of the next steps — getting a driver’s license, looking at colleges, applying for jobs… adult stuff. I realize we keep our kids pretty young in our culture. A few generations ago, he might have been married at 17, but it doesn’t make it any easier as a mom to get used to the idea that I almost have an adult son. Yikes!

Tomorrow Cyndi and I launch our 25 Days of Winter Fashion! WOOT! Today I’m putting together one last Instagram Roundup since I won’t be doing these for the next few weeks. This is a mixture of daily outfits that I’m actually wearing as well as outfits from the blog and previews of posts to come.

I often get questions on my Instagram posts about where I got things. I always link what I’m wearing with LIKEtoKNOW.it — and if you don’t know what that is, I’ve linked a page at the top of my blog, What is LIKEtoKNOW.it?, that explains how to register and get emails with product links. Or you can always come to my blog and click on Shop My Instagram at the top and click on any of the images to get links to what I’m wearing without registering with LIKEtoKNOW.it. I hope that helps!

Okay, let’s get this party started!

I’m obsessed with this Cozy Rib Detail Relaxed Turtleneck. I realized that I didn’t have a black turtleneck or basic black sweater in my closet anymore, so I picked this up at Nordstrom. And how cute are these beet red boots!?! I wore this outfit last weekend to go to dinner with my husband and then to the Hooters concert.

Fashion Over 40 | What I Wore | Black Chunky Turtleneck, Dark Jeans, Beet Red Booties

Caslon Cozy Rib Detail Relaxed Turtleneck // DL1961 Emma Power Legging Jeans in Token (similar for less) // Lucky Brand Yakeena Zip Wedge Bootie // Beaded Circle Pendant // assorted Alex and Ani charm bangles // Louise et Cie Jael Shoulder Bag

I wore this outfit last Sunday to church. It’s simple, but I like the pop of purple with the black jacket and jeans, and I wore pewter ballet flats and carried a grey bag to lighten up the outfit. I first went for my black pointy toe flats, and then I decided I needed something to add a little more interest. I tried a scarf on with this but ended up wearing a simple pendant. Scarves are fun, but this is more slimming, and it was less to futz with when I was teaching Sunday School to the preschoolers.

Fashion Over 40 | What I Wore | Purple V-Neck Sweater with Moto Jacket and Black Jeans

coated cotton moto jacket (old; try this faux leather option; I also like this mixed media moto) // v-neck sweater (old; similar but longer) // Frame Le Color Skinny Jeans (similar for less) // similar Tory Burch gunmetal ballet flats (less expensive) // similar Tory Burch crossbody (I also like this R Minkoff crossbody; similar for less at Target) // Stella and Dot Luna Pendant // assorted Alex and Ani charm bangles

This popular scarf sold out AGAIN. So bummed. I find myself wearing it about every other day. My Bernardo Packable Down Hooded Jacket is a great piece to have. I love the flattering fit and how you can compress it into practically nothing in your suitcase. The full details on this outfit are in THIS POST.

Fashion Over 40 | What I Wore | Winter Travel Outfit | Packable Down Coat with Plaid Blanket Scarf

A simple outfit I wore one day last week…I’m obsessed with camel right now. I love how it pairs with black and burgundy. I sized down to a small in both the vest and the sweater.

Fashion Over 40 | What I Wore | Camel Sweater with Black Quilted Vest, Jeans and Burgundy Suede Flats

J.Crew Excursion Quilted Down Vest (25% off with code WARMSTYLE) // Halogen Crewneck Lightweight Cashmere Sweater // DL1961 Emma Power Legging Jeans in Token // similar burgundy suede flats // necklace and earrings are old

I wore this sweater dress to church a few weeks ago. I love the fit and how versatile it is. Full details in THIS POST.

Fashion Over 40 | What I Wore | Teal Sweater Dress for Fall

My friend Carly sent me her Perfect Black Tee because I like her white one so much. It has the same great fit and quality material, and I like the subtle texture to the material. It’s almost more grey than black, but it’s a great piece that I know I’ll wear a lot.

Fashion Over 40 | What I Wore | Thirty Something Tees Perfect Black Tee

My favorite cowl neck tunic is 40% off again at LOFT, making it $35.

Fashion Over 40 | What I Wore | LOFT Cowl Neck Tunic with Distressed AG Skinny Jeans

LOFT Cowl Tunic Sweater // AG Raw Hem Legging Ankle Jeans (similar for less) // my Stella & Dot Covet Sunday Bucket Bag // Double Sided Pearl Earrings // my Stella & Dot Pearl Spike Cuff Bracelet // Kate Spade Bracelet Watch // Maui Jim Moonbow Sunnies c/o // nails: CND Fedora

This is another casual outfit I wore this week. The top and jeans are old, but I’ll link to similar styles. I love pairing stripes and leopard.

Fashion Over 40 | What I Wore | Black and White Striped Top with Black Jeans and Leopard Flats

similar striped top // similar black jeans // Sam Edelman Felicia Flats // my Stella & Dot Covet Sunday Bucket Bag // Stella and Dot Luna Pendant

We photographed this outfit over the weekend. I can’t wait to share more about it later this week!

Fashion Over 40 | What I Wore | Classic Camel Coat

camel coat // plaid scarf (similar) // red ribbed pullover // similar skinny jeans // similar boots // shoulder bag // sunnies c/o Maui Jim // pearl earrings

I wore this outfit to a friend’s birthday party on Saturday night. This pink turtleneck is from J.Crew last year, and it has the prettiest detail on the sleeves. I don’t usually like tight fitting turtlenecks, but this one seems to work. I’ll link to a few similar below.

Fashion Over 40 | What I Wore | Pink Chunky Turtleneck with Skinny Jeans and Black OTK Boots

similar skinny jeans // similar boots // teal crossbody // similar pink turtleneck here and here // Tribal Pendant c/o Lucky Brand

And finally, I didn’t get around to posting this to Instagram, but this is what I wore to church yesterday. So annoyed that yet another Nordstrom top is sold out, but I got a few comments on my LOFT Scuba Skinny Pants. They are so flattering. If you are in need of a pair of black dressy pants, definitely check these out. Also, they are 40% off right now!

I would typically wear a long pendant with this outfit to break up the dark color and to create the illusion of an hourglass shape, but since this top is already quite fitted, I decided to try this shorter chain link necklace, and I really like the effect. Since there’s so much dark going on in the outfit, I feel like the bright gold necklace draws attention to my face. Either would work, but I thought this was fun for a change.

Fashion Over 40 | What I Wore | Lace Mock Neck Top with Black Scuba Skinny Pants and Black Pointy Toe Pumps

sorta similar top // Scuba Skinny Pants (40% off; true to size) // pumps // shoulder bag //necklace

And that’s a wrap! It will be a while before I do another one of these because I’ll be focusing on 25 Days of Winter Outfits and gift guides and other holiday related content for the next few weeks, but I’ll still be posting my daily outfits on Instagram if you want to follow along!

  1. Another great post Jo-Lynne! You recently showed us how brown boots can be worn with just about any color, even with black. I can only have one pair of knee high boots, and they happen to be black, so I assume they can be worn with all colors, even brown. I just have to retrain my brain since the fashion industry has done a great job with making us ladies think we have to be all matched up.

I know it’s an exciting day for you, getting the new floors installed. Good luck with your rug decisions!

    God bless!

  2. We have area rugs in our living room and dining room that are not identical but have the same fibers/yard/threads (whatever you call them) woven differently (made by the same rug company). Does that make any sense? The rugs have the same colors in them so they are complimentary but they give a different feel to each room? I love it! I’ve had them for several years. Take your time deciding…area rugs are expensive and should be considered an investment, in my opinion. High quality rugs wear the best.

  3. Great post! I can’t wait for the winter series to start.
As for your rugs, take your time and make sure you get what you want. They are so expensive so they need to be something you will love for years. The decorator will most likely want you to choose two different rugs instead of two alike but do what make you happy. I went with a wool rug for our living room(it’s cozy when you’re barefoot) and a sisal rug banded with a color that coordinates with the living room for the dining room. I think the sisal is doing really well in an area where people are eating. Easy to vacuum and clean. Good luck!

  4. Jolynne, as an interior designer, you can absolutely have two different size rugs, you can also have two different patterns, as long as the color threads are the same and compliment each other. Just be sure the rug is large enough under the dining room table so that when you push the chairs back, the legs stay on the rug (rather than half on and half off, which is very hard to maneuver each time you scoot the chairs)…also, make sure the rug in the living room is large enough to be under the front legs of the furniture, rather than “floating” out in the middle of the room with no furniture to “anchor” it…good luck & hope you’ll post pics when it’s done!

  5. Hi Jo-Lynne -. I was just going to say the same thing Rhonda said! One of my fav decorating blogs is Addison’s Wonderland. She is decorating a renovated house now but her previous house was amazing. Take a look if you have a chance. Looking forward to your next 25 Days of Fashion. Gwen

  6. You are getting great advice on the rugs. I love sisal but not good with 3 big dogs particularly if they vomit. I love the Houzz App. It’s free and is like having 10,000 magazines at your fingertips. It’s a fun app and full of information and ideas. It can be very addictive.
    Love the outfits!

  7. It’s exciting to get wall to wall carpet torn up and beautiful hardwood laid. I did that five years ago and love, love, love it! I felt the same way about covering it up.
Bring on 25 Days of a Winter Fashion!

  8. I have my eye on that black turtle neck. Such a beautiful outfit. the beet boots are adorable! Good luck with the rugs. I agree do what you like. have fun with it!

  9. Love all the outfits? What size did you get in Bernardo jacket? I’m generally a small but sometimes like to get medium in jackets. Also, do you think it will be warm enough for really cold winter days?
    Thanks.
