Instagram Roundup // What I Wore This Week 10.03.16

Happy Monday, friends! I’m excited for a full work week with no travel plans or other distractions. I’m way overdue for an Instagram Roundup, and today seemed like as good a day as any.

When I started the 26 Days of Fall Fashion seasonal style challenge, I decided not to post Instagram roundups so I could use my one “free day” each week to post a newsy Coffee Talk post or just take a day off. That means I have a ton of looks saved up from my Instagram posts.

I don’t want this post to be too crazy long, so I’ll try to hit the highlights. I’m skipping most of the photos that were already published in blog posts as well as photos that don’t have outfits in them. I’m assuming you’re mostly interested in what what I wore than what I ate.

That said, I’ve been trying to get back to posting more Instagram photos that aren’t just outfits. It’s easier when I actually go to cool places, like my trip to South Carolina earlier this week! But I’m also trying to notice picture-worthy opps around me in my daily life… not only because I think it makes my Instagram account more interesting, but also because I want to take the time to stop and smell the roses, so to speak.

Too often I’m rushing to the next thing and focusing so much on getting my to-do list accomplished that I forget to take note of the ordinary beauty around me, and I’m trying to get better about that. Capturing those moments for Instagram helps me remember to count my blessings, and hopefully it will encourage those following along to do the same.

There are some pretty good sales going on right now, too! So let’s get started!

Instagram Roundup 10.03.16

Fall 2016 Instagram Roundup: Wearable Fall Outfits for Women Over 40

When I get new clothing in the mail, I often spend an afternoon trying things on and putting outfits together so when we have time for a photo shoot, I already know what I want to wear. I wish I could tell you that every outfit comes together effortlessly, but that’s just not the case. Sometimes I try on 5-10 variations on an outfit before I come up with something I like, and then there are still times that I look at my pictures and wish I could tweak the outfit and shoot it again. Life is too busy for that, though, and I think showing the hits as well as some of the misses is helpful.

My point in telling you all of this is, sometimes I share these experimental looks on Instagram, especially when I’m excited about a particular look or article of clothing. Case in point: The day this pink sweater arrived, I threw it on with my skinny jeans and OTK boots and posted this.

The sweater comes in several gorgeous colors, and it’s currently on sale for $26.22 after the 25% discount with code TREAT. I’m wearing a medium, for size reference.

I snapped this top-down selfie on the way out the door to a photo shoot a few weeks ago. You can see more pictures of this outfit in this post. I think I like the outfit best this way — sans moto jacket.

Fall Outfit Inspo: Vince Camuto Scallop Lace Mock Neck Top with Hudson Jeans ‘Krista’ Ankle Jeans

I wore this Lauren by Ralph Lauren dress to church a few weeks ago. I actually wore it (and it was gifted to me) in a blogger fashion show a few years ago in NYC. I always pull this dress out in the fall because the colors are perfect for transition season, but it is lightweight enough to wear when it’s still warm outside. Of course this dress is long gone, but I really like this brand. It fits well, and they make a lot of cute styles. (Pardon the mess behind me.)

I wore this casual outfit to run errands and work from home. I love and adore this tee. It was a splurge on the #NSale back in July. I got it for something like 35% off, which was still a lot for a tee, but certainly more palatable than the full retail price. I don’t think I’d pay full price for it, even though it’s an amazing top. Also, my Frye sandals are like 10 years old and still going strong.

SALE ALERT >> Take an extra 25% off Select Items at Bloomingdales! Use code FRIENDS at checkout. PLUS Loyallists get a $25 Reward Card for every $100 you spend on almost everything else! Sale ends 10/10/16.

You may remember this dress from this post. I wore it to Bible Study one hot and steamy morning in mid-September. Also, I invested in this Thea Hobo the last time Bloomies was running this $25 off every $100 you spend promotion. I wanted a neutral everyday bag, and this is the perfect size and shape for my needs, plus the quality is outstanding. The leather is like butter, and the tassel detail is fun.

GAP Softspun Knit Tank Dress with Tory Burch Miller Sandals

I wore this to take the dog to the vet. I know, people don’t usually dress to go sit and gather pet fur at the veterinarian’s office, but I don’t get out much so I take any opportunity I can to get dressed these days! This suede bucket bag is part of the new Stella & Dot Covet collection. It’s such a great fall bag!

Stella & Dot Covet Sunday Bag

Stella & Dot Covet Sunday Bag // DL1961 Florence Instasculpt Skinny Jeans // beaded bracelets c/o White House Black Market // similar pewter flats here and here

I wore this to the mall one day. I’d probably prefer my pewter flats (shown above) with this outfit, but the bag has gold hardware, and the pewter flats aren’t really that comfortable. I went with my Felicia Flats because I knew I’d be doing a lot of walking and I didn’t want my shoes rubbing blisters.

LOFT Bow Neck Shell with Hudson Jeans ‘Krista’ Ankle Jeans and Stella & Dot Covet Sunday Bag

Stella & Dot Covet Sunday Bag // Hudson Jeans ‘Krista’ Ankle Jeans // LOFT Bow Neck Shell // Sam Edelman Felicia Flats // assorted Alex and Ani bangles (some c/o)

I wore this outfit to run errands. I love these suede sandals for warm fall days, although those days seem to be behind us now. This tee is the same brand as the plum one above. For size reference, I sized down to a small in this one.

The perfect early fall outfit: Paige Lynnea Stripe V-Neck Pocket Tee with a denim pencil skirt, leopard belt, and Dolce Vita Randi Wedge Sandals

Paige Lynnea Stripe V-Neck Pocket Tee (less expensive option here) // denim pencil skirt (runs TTS) // similar leopard belt // Dolce Vita Randi Wedge Sandals (also here) $36!!! // Stella & Dot Luna Pendant // Treasure & Bond Beaded Cuffs

This was another outfit planning experiment. Even though I like the look, I felt silly wearing short sleeves and a blanket scarf. It seems to defeat the purpose, does it not? So when I photographed the outfit for the blog, I wore a long sleeve tee instead. See that post here.

How to wear a blanket scarf with over-the-knee boots and a short-sleeve tee!

Caslon U-Neck Tee // square scarf //similar crop skinnies // similar boots // assorted Alex and Ani bangles (some c/o)

I wore this to go shopping, although I ended up changing shoes because I didn’t want to mess with the laces in the dressing room. (Yes, I wear this tee a lot!)

Another experimental outfit that ended up making the blog… see the final post here.

My favorite fall outfit: utility jacket with striped tee and leopard flats. The R Minkoff Always On Regan Tote in Almond is the perfect finishing touch!

Paige Lynnea Stripe V-Neck Pocket Tee (size down; less expensive option here) // similar utility jacket (also like this and this) // DL1961 Florence Skinny Jeans //Sam Edelman Felicia Flats // R Minkoff Always On Regan Tote // Stella & Dot Luna Pendant & bungalow hoops // assorted Alex and Ani bangles (some c/o)

The next few outfits you’ve seen on the blog, but I did actually wear them to go somewhere in real life (lol) so I’ll go ahead and post them here. I wore this outfit to go to brunch with girlfriends one morning after our photo shoot, so I snapped this mirror selfie to share on Instagram.

LOVING these White House Black Market khaki Skimmer Jeans with navy V-neck pullover and burgundy suede ballet flats for fall!

WHBM Skimmer Jeans // similar burgundy flats herehere, and here // similar grey crossbody // assorted Alex and Ani bangles (some c/o) // WHBM Teardrop Earrings // Gorjana 3-disc necklace

I wore this outfit to church a couple of weeks ago.

Fall Outfit Inspo: Denim Pencil Skirt with striped tee and taupe booties. The burgundy leather jacket is the perfect finishing touch!

And this was my travel outfit to South Carolina. See that post here.

My go-to travel outfit for fall (or anytime, really!) Splendid Draped Waffle-Knit Cardigan with Topshop Double Strap V-Back Camisole, AG Ankle Super Skinny Jeans, and Sam Edelman Felicia Flats. My Always On Regan Tote is the perfect carryon, and my 24″ Delsey Chatelet Spinner Trolley is a stylish and practical suitcase for a long weekend.

I didn’t have the chance to get anyone to take my pictures in South Carolina, but I did try on my outfits here at home before I left, so I have mirror selfies of what I wore. For those just catching up, I attended a press trip with Mazda in the South Carolina Lowcountry last week.

This is the dress I wore to the cocktail reception and dinner the first night. I felt AMAZING in this dress!!! Also, it is on sale for $81.

Fall Cocktail Party? Yes please! This White House Black Market Mock Neck Sheath Dress with tan suede Steve Madden Carrson Sandals is perfectly chic.

Mock Neck Sheath Dress (on sale for $81) // Steve Madden Carrson Sandals // WHBM Teardrop Earrings & Tiger Eye Mesh Bracelet Set // Halogen Leather Clutch

I brought both of these tops as options to wear with these Crop Pants to the informational presentation and outdoor activities on the main day of the event. I ended up wearing the cream Jetsetter Tee to the Mazda informational meeting, and then I decided I’d be too hot for outdoor activities, and I went back to my room and changed into shorts before we left for Hilton Head.

Two ways to wear WHBM Slim Crop Pants with Utility Details with Superga kicks!

WHBM Slim Crop Pants with Utility Details in Olivia (on sale for $44; size down) // Dolman Jetsetter Tee in Crema (on sale for $19; size down) // LOFT floral linen top (old) // Superga sneakers (on sale for $67) // Stella & Dot Eternity Necklace

I drove this Mazda CX-9 over to Hilton Head (it was about 15 miles) and I’m telling you, this is one sweet ride!!! It is SO quiet inside. Definitely feels more like a luxury vehicle than what I’m used to. Here’s the outfit I changed into. (So I did get ONE outfit picture while I was there!)

Paige Lynnea Stripe V-Neck Pocket Tee (gotta get my money’s worth! lol!) // navy blue Ann Taylor City Shorts // Superga sneakers (on sale for $67) // similar TB crossbody // Alex and Ani bangles

This is what I wore to dinner the second night. We went on a cocktail cruise over to a little island where they had set up an “oyster roast and pig pullin'” so I went a little more casual than the first night. I brought these wedge sandals, but I ended up wearing my flat Miller Sandals and I’m so glad I did. It was an outdoor venue with uneven ground, so the flat sandals were perfect. I also wore this Tiger Eye Mesh Bracelet Set and Teardrop Earrings that aren’t shown in this picture.

J.Crew leopard blouse with white Paige Verdugo skinnies

J.Crew leopard blouse (size down one; I’m wearing a small) // white Paige Verdugo skinnies (size up one) // wedge sandals (I wore my Miller sandals)

Finally, I wore this yesterday to church. It was cold and dank and dreary outside, so I wanted to be warm and cozy. I’d rather not wear blue jeans to church, but I don’t have any dress pants yet and I figured the pumps and cashmere sweater made up for the fact that I was wearing jeans. (Our church is fairly casual, which is in stark contrast to our rather formal services. We rent space in a local school gymnasium, so I think people feel like they don’t need to dress up because the venue is so casual.) I try to walk the line between dressy and casual, but anything goes, so my looks vary quite a bit, depending on my mood and what I want to wear.

Mavi Baby Bootcut Jeans with coral cashmere V-neck pullover and Via Spiga Carola Pumps. A lightweight CAbi scarf completes the look.

similar sweater here, here and here // Mavi Baby Bootcut Jeans (40% off!) // Via Spiga Carola Pumps // CAbi scarf // similar bag

And that’s a wrap! Phew! That was a long one.

Now that fall weather seems to be here to stay, I’ll have more daily outfits to share on Instagram and here on the blog. We always prefer getting outfit pictures on location somewhere pretty, but sometimes it just doesn’t work out that way.  I know that the most important thing is to capture the outfit rather than worrying about the backdrop, but there’s no denying that our on-site photo shoots are much more interesting to look at than the ones we take here in the front yard. Now that fall weather seems to be here to stay, I hope we’ll have more opportunities for cool photo shoots.

I’ve got quite a few fun looks in the pipeline, so be sure you’re signed up for my Daily Emails, and you’ll never miss a thing! You can also follow along on Instagram and register with LIKEtoKNOW.it so you can shop my outfits first!

  1. Thank you for sharing even your less than perfect outfits. It really helps to know that sometime you may not be happy, but you go on! Also, it helps to know you spend a lot of time putting outfits together. Sometimes I get mad or disappointed in myself for not always knowing what will work or not.

  2. Cute outfits! I also must say that you are looking good girl. Those couple of pounds you lost must have been in the right spots. You always look good but you look downright amazing!

  3. That wasn’t too long, lol. I expected worse after an entire month. I didn’t even finish my coffee before I was done reading 😉 I’m playing proofreader again, the venue for your church is casual, not the venus 🙂

  4. Great round up. Just had to tell you that this weekend I went out in search of the WHBM Skimmer’s you have and both me and my hubby(!) love them. They are a great addition and I think for ONCE I actually bought something that adheres to the 3 thing rule w/o being black. So very excited to give other things in my closet new life! Look forward to seeing how else you style these!

  5. Such cute outfits! Thanks for putting this together for us. Last week all of your emails are not going to my junk folder, instead of my inbox. Any idea why? Same with Cindi’s emails! Tania’s I get just fine. Strange, I know but if you can help me out that would be great. Thanks!

    1. Yes, that happens with emails from newsletters like ours from time to time. The reasons vary – it depends on the types of emails you flag as junk (if your email server decides mine are similar, it can start to put them in the spam folder) or it can happen if you don’t open my emails for a long time (your email server may decide you don’t want to see them) and sometimes it’s b/c other people mark my emails as spam which flags anything coming from my email address as spammy (and don’t even get me started on how aggravating that is – I have never added anyone to my email list without permission, so they should never get marked as spam, but some people don’t know how to unsubscribe, I guess.)

It can also happen if my email newsletter provider doesn’t use best practices and anything coming from them starts to get flagged as spam. Cyndi and I both use the same email newsletter provider, but they are supposed to be reputable. In a nutshell, there’s not a whole lot I can do about it. This happens to me sometimes when I subscribe to someone’s blog. If I notice I’m not getting their emails, I check spam, and often find them. It’s a nuisance, but it’s just part of the deal, I guess. 🙂

  6. The J.Crew Leopard blouse, you said to size down to a small I see they run in sizes 8, 10, 12 etc. dd you get a 6 when you’re normally an 8? Medium is an 8/10 so i am not sure which size to go with? do you wear it tucked?
It’s on sale right now so thinking of trying it to wear for an upcoming concert I am going to?
