Instagram Roundup

insta roundup

It’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve done one of these so grab a 2nd cup of coffee. It’s a long one!

I have to admit, dressing for the weather has become quite challenging. It’s winter one day and summer the next around here. It’s driving me a little bit batty!

I’m going to post these in reverse order since that’s how they loaded.

I took this picture yesterday after getting back from the hair salon. I asked her to curl my hair for a change (and to teach me how to do it.) I’m not sure I’m sold on it, but my daughters and husband loved it. I’ll have to see if I can recreate this look at home.

I posted this picture from my closet when I was inquiring about the interest in a Snapchat Q&A. I’m going to go ahead and do one, so if you have any questions you’d like me to answer, you can leave them in the comments on this post (blog or Instagram.) I will keep you posted about when I’ll do the Q&A. I’ll also try to do a recap on the blog for those of you not on Snapchat.

I ordered this coral cardigan, and I was trying it out to see if I like it. I got a lot of response, both pro and con, when I asked my Instagram followers to weigh in. I tried it again yesterday with longer jeans and higher heels, and we did a photo shoot that I’ll post this week sometime.

This is another top I was trying out to see if I want to keep it. I’m a bit obsessed with dolman tops, can you tell?

I wore this to take my kids to the orthodontist one COLD morning. I actually dug out a pair of ankle boots.

I posted my new Evel Sandals for #shoesdayTuesday — evidently that’s a thing. Ha! They’re 30% off and soooo comfortable.

Dana’s Bakery sent me a package of their gluten-free macarons to try. Oh. My. Word. Where have these things BEEN all my life!?!? If you ever want to order a special treat for someone, these are the perfect thing.

Trying out another new top. I actually wore this outfit that day. I love the Splendid brand. It’s a bit pricier than some but not crazy. The drape on their tops is always amazing, and I find that they are more flattering than the cheaper ones that tend to hang straight down from the, ahem, chest area. This top is roomy. I have the medium. I’m curious to see how it would look in a small, but I already wore it, and if it shrinks at all, I think I’ll be happy I have the medium.

This top is sold out, but I posted this selfie along with a little PSA about the Instagram changes.

This striped relaxed tunic is $44 PLUS an additional 50% off at LOFT right now. WOOT! I have the small.

This is the outfit I wore for Easter Sunday.

I think this one is self explanatory.

Details for this outfit are HERE. Love this outfit!

I was doing some outfit planning and decided this would make a cute flat lay. This gingham top is only $14 at Old Navy, and it’s really cute on.

I snapped this top-down selfie as I was on my way out to a meeting.

These outfit details are HERE. I’m planning to bring this outfit to Dallas next week.

I received this off-the-shoulder DVF top in my last Trunk Club. I thought I loved it, but after seeing this picture, I’m wondering if it’s too voluminous. I’m not sure it flatters my figure, although it’s a gorgeous top. I think it might be going back.

Sometimes I share the graphic from my She Reads Truth devotional. I found this one particularly comforting.

Walkers Shortbread sent me their gluten-free shortbread cookies to try. This was such a treat. Shortbread is one of my favorite indulgences, but I haven’t found a GF version that I care for until now. I will definitely be buying these in the future!

Gosh, this is getting long. YIKES! Here’s a top-down selfie I took one day. I think I’ve linked to all of these pieces elsewhere in this post, although the striped shirt is from last year.

pink jeans and stripes

And this is that gingham top again. I tried it on with my white distressed skinnies and those Payless Ella Espadrilles.

gingham

This is a totally contrived running picture for this post. Ha! Truly, though, I LOVE those Zella capris.

This fatigue jacket has come in super handy this spring, and while I sent this Free People v-neck tee back, I kind of regret it now.

Finally, I snapped this selfie when I was on my way to church two weeks ago. The dress is old. It’s a Ralph Lauren from Ross Dress For Less. I highly recommend checking out Ross for dresses. They have a great selection, and prices are fantastic. I’m wearing my Pact Pumps and an old CAbi jean jacket.

Whew! That was a long one, and believe it or not, I didn’t even post them all.

Tomorrow I’ll be back with a Coffee Talk post and a newsy update on the goings-on around here, so stay tuned for that!

Today is work, work, work. I haven’t gotten much done this week, and I’m leaving for Dallas on Thursday, so I need to get crackin’! It’s a rainy, icky day here, so perfect for sitting inside and banging out some posts!

If you like this post, be sure to follow me on Instagram. And if you have any questions you want me to answer in my Snapchat Q&A (to be recapped here on the blog) drop them in the comments!

  1. Wait, you sent the free people tee back?! That was so cute!
Your hair is cute curled! I tried having my hair curled too for the first time in like a decade. She showed me how to use the wand and I even did a couple pieces. I can see a lot of burnt fingers in my future if I get one, lol. The hubby loved it so I may try it, haha. It would be nice to have another option other than straight or straighter though! 😉

    1. I did. I just was afraid I’d only wear it a couple of times. I tend to wear a lot of sleeveless tops in the summer, and it doesn’t usually get warm here till May. I’m still in 3/4 sleeves and long sleeves most of the time. I am really trying not to let my closet get out of control again. 🙂

Yes, I’m really hoping I can figure out the curling wand b/c I’d like to have another option. My husband said I look younger with my hair like this, so I’m all for it! HA!

  2. Good Morning! LOVE your blog!

If you had to choose, do you have one pair/brand of go to jeans?

I’ve never really invested in premium denim for myself…SO many choices and not sure where to start. I really never like how I look in the fitting room, but its not like it keeps me from wearing jeans…it just keeps me from investment jeans, lol.

    1. I personally love the DL1961 because they don’t stretch out, and their cute seems to fit my rectangle shape well. 🙂 I also find AG to be very forgiving and flattering, although they tend to be a bit snugger in the waist. Paige makes a great jean as well. They all make great jeans, though. It really is a matter of trial and error and finding what is most flattering on your body type. The awesome thing about Nordstrom is returns are free, so you can try a few pairs and send back the ones you don’t like. 🙂

  3. Jo-Lynne, I thought the curly hair was great! It was so fun to read where you wore each outfit. 😉 Isn’t it funny how your perspective on an outfit can change when you snap a picture and look at it? I’ve scrapped a couple of outfits for my blog because they definitely didn’t look they way I thought they did after I saw it on “camera”. LOL!!

    Happy Saturday!
    xx-S

  4. This was really fun Jo-Lynne—it was like we were sitting around talking!!
A couple comments—your hair looks fab curled. What i want to know is why is it always so hard to get our hair to look like our stylist does? Or is it just me?
That coral cardigan—if you don’t have a long one in your closet—it might be nice for variety. I find they can be a great option (like a jacket, really) especially over a dress.
As for the striped dolmain top—it really doesn’t stand out much and seems very similar to a lot of other tops you already have—IMO.
Snapchat question: do you use for fun only, or is it part of your blog work?
Thanks for sharing—have fun in Dallas!! jodie

  5. Ok I love all of the outfits, but what I found to be a real treasure in the post are the Walkers cookies!!! My daughter is Celiac, and I’d love to pick them up. Any info on if they’re available? Can’t you see one side dunked in chocolate…
Love your posts, love your style, thanks!

  6. This comment is for Em: I highly recommend going to Nordstrom and asking a personal stylist to help you. I found that the jeans I went there to buy (DL 1961) were all wrong for my body. She suggested AG high rise and they fit beautifully on my long torso. Then, they hemmed them complimentary. Love Nordstrom!

    Hope this helps!

    1. THANK YOU, Cyndi (and Jo-Lynne),

That is a GREAT idea!!! We don’t have a Nordstrom in WNY (we do have their Rack store); however I’ve visited them on travel…will definitely include them on my next trip. Much better idea than spending $ on a pair of jeans that get balled up in the corner of my closet because I don’t flatter them 🙂

      1. Yes, and the best part was she actually guaranteed the jeans so if I didn’t love the fit I could return them even after hemming! Gotta love that service. 😉

  7. Here is a question I’ve been wondering about: Would it look silly for this 60+ woman to wear a dress right above the knees with white capri leggings? I wore black leggings this winter with a couple of dresses, but I’m not sure about the white as well as capri length. I would like to wear such a combination as I have very blotchy legs and have resorted to pants or maxi skirts and dresses for several years In the spring and summer to keep them covered. My legs are long and slim but they don’t look good bare. I just wanted your opinion. Thank you.

    1. I’m wondering the same thing!!! My old job (RN on a busy floor) caused many lovely spider veins all over. My legs look terrible. I have a denim skirt and several of those above the knee tops and dresses. I’m in my 40’s but I am wanting to cover my legs, will leggings work for the summer?

    2. I think that would be fine. I have a friend who is in her 50s, very chic and styish, and she wears capri-length leggings under dresses in the summer months with sandals. I can’t say for sure about the white – I think it would depend on the color of the dress. You could do navy or black as well. Here is the post she wrote for me, and it shows her wearing capri-length leggings with dresses. https://jolynneshane.com/how-to-wear-leggings.html

      1. Thank you so much for your reply and the link you shared! Good information and very helpful. Have a wonderful weekend and trip next week!

  8. I think the curly hair is a fun look on you. But I love your hair how you usually wear it also. You are beautiful. Always nice to have a different option. Looking forward to hearing how to do the curly look!
