Instagram Roundup

I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend so far. We kicked it off last night at a cookout with friends, and today we’re planning to go to the pool. I hope it’s not terribly crowded. With any luck, everyone went to the beach. Ha!

I’m up bright and early, and it’s another beautiful morning. After weeks of rain, it’s like a balm to my soul to look outside and see the sun. I need to go walking before it gets too warm. I got my 10,000 steps in every day this week (yay, me!) so I want to keep the momentum going.

Today I have an Instagram roundup for you. I know I always say I’m going to keep these short and sweet but end up going into great detail about each outfit. I’m going to try not to do that today! Ha! We’ll see how it goes.

Spring Outfit Ideas | Wearable Fashion for Women Over 40

This is the outfit I wore last Saturday. If you recall, it was rainy and cold, which is really hard to imagine since it’s been in the high 80s and sunny for the last few days. Our weather literally went from being in the upper 50s to the upper 80s in less than a week. Crazytown!

I love this outfit for a casual, cool spring day. The collarless denim popover is a fresh take on the traditional collared button-down, and I find it more comfortable and flattering too. I thought the denim with pink and grey was a pretty color combo. Aaaand of course, I carried my ivory saddlebag (which is ON SALE THIS WEEKEND!) Shopping details are beneath each picture.

I wore this out to dinner last Saturday night. The jeans, shoes, and top are all on sale this weekend! WOOT!

This gorgeous orchard street hemsley shoulder bag is part of the new kate spade new york summer collection. It’s the perfect everyday size, and I love that double tassel detail.

I wore this next outfit one day early in the week before it got so hot. This linen tee from LOFT shrinks up quite a bit. It seemed large when I bought it, but after I washed it and laid it flat to dry, it fits perfectly. It’s a medium.

This was another casual day at home and running errands. I was featuring this kate spade laptop bag that went on a surprise sale, but unfortunately that has now ended. Also note my pretty summer flowers! I love my front yard this summer. I will have to do a snapchat. The perennials we had planted last fall are blooming, and then we planted a bunch of annuals last weekend, plus we got pots and hanging planters for the front porch. I love it!

This picture is from our visit to the Hyatt Chesapeake a couple weekends ago. I will have more details on this dress in a post next week, but it is currently on sale at Nordstrom. I hope it doesn’t sell out before I feature it. Our photos turned out so beautifully!

I wore this outfit earlier in the week. This tie-front top is on sale, and these jean shorts are my new favorites. I have to try not to wear them every day. I ordered these pink tassel chandeliers a while back and haven’t known what to wear them with. They seemed to work with this outfit. This is such a big trend right now, the colorful tassel earrings. I sort of like it for fun.

The R Bracelet I’m wearing is “vintage Stella & Dot” and has been discontinued. If you want one, email me and I can see if another Stella & Dot consultant has one left over that you can purchase.

Next up, a casual outfit I wore one day this week to run errands. I love white and grey together for summer, and it is the perfect neutral color palette for a pop of pink.

Finally, I wore this outfit yesterday to the salon to get my hair cut and colored. She also curled it for me. This top is super old, sorry!!! This Relaxed Slub U-Neck Tee in Green Golf is a similar color, though.

Since taking the Adore Your Wardrobe class, I find myself counting to four every time I get dressed and I feel like my outfits are more complete. The rule of four can include a colored or patterned shoe, an accessory like a scarf or hat, an extra layer like a vest or jacket, any statement piece of jewelry, layered necklaces, a statement handbag, or a point of visual interest like distressed jeans or a tie neck blouse.

I tend to under accessorize, so it’s good for me to have an easy “rule” like this to follow. You can have more than 4 points in an outfit, but if you make sure you have at least 4, you really do look more complete and put together. Try it, and tell me what you think!

Be sure to follow me on Instagram to see my daily outfits and get the first look at the new looks I’m styling for the blog. And be sure to sign up for LIKEtoKNOW.it so you can shop my Instagram feed before items sell out!

With that, I’m off to seize the day. I hope to be back tomorrow with a Coffee Talk, but if not, enjoy the rest of your weekend! I know not everyone who reads this blog is a U.S. citizen, but for those of us who are, let’s take a moment this weekend to reflect on the true meaning of the holiday and remember those who fought and died for the freedoms we enjoy. I am so very grateful for the sacrifices military families make on a daily basis to protect our freedom and keep us safe. Our country is far from perfect, but I am proud to call it home. So to anyone reading who is serving who has served in the armed forces, I sincerely thank you.

  1. Love those tassel earrings! It’s hard to see them in the pic, but I got a better look on your snap. Perfect pop of color. Like with many bolder pieces, I’m not sure if I have the confidence to pull them off. Speaking of, I’ve been thinking about getting a nicer quality colored handbag. Again, I’m reluctant and stuck on choosing a color! I was in checkout process at Kate Spade last night (extra 25% off sale) and stopped myself! I’m hopeless, lol. What would you say is your most versatile colored bag? I need ideas! 😉

    1. Yeah, that’s hard. I love my pink bag, but it clashes with oranges and reds. I have a bright green bag that I used to carry a lot, especially this time of year. I’m not sure why I don’t pull that out more, honestly. I think greens and blues are more versatile than pinks/reds/oranges – but maybe that’s because I tend to wear more of those colors? I dunno… LOL! I am so not helpful! A blush is nice, as it blends with a lot. But if you like a bold color, I’d go with bright pink or bright green, and carry your neutral bag when it doesn’t go. I’m assuming you have a neutral bag you love?

  2. Great recap Jo-Lynne! All of the outfits are great and tell your husband, GREAT JOB on the photography on your weekend getaway. I too am so appreciative to all of those that paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Any time I see someone in uniform, I do my best to tell them ‘thank you!’
It’s going to be up near 90 here in south central GA today, so I’ve already applied my sunscreen.

    God Bless!

  3. Jo-Lynne,

I *GASPED* out loud when I saw the David Yurman oval link bracelet on your wrist because I saw that 2 or 3(?) years ago on the famous AtlanticPacific blog by Blaire Eadie, and it was $1200 or something crazy like that! So I OF COURSE had to click over to see if you dropped that much on a bracelet!!!! Wow, it’s WAY more affordable now.

I really love it and noticed she wore it a lot. Anyhow, I had bought a super cheap knockoff version from Amazon ($15) and was so bummed when the gold plaiting started wearing off about 2 weeks later. Anyhow I LOVE that bracelet and will be dropping that link as a hint as a present for our anniversary next month.

    xx-S

    1. My mistake, I thought you had the two-tone bracelet which is still $1,850 to 2,100…LOL. From your picture it looked like two-tone. Love the style though. 😉

  4. I like that your posts are “wordy”. Lol. There are several blogs that I follow, about three or four faithfully. Of those, I prefer yours over the others because you go into a little detail about why you like an item, why you didn’t, trial and error, hits and misses. I like to know the reasons that you chose something or why you chose to return an item. That info often helps me make a decision when you are styling an item I’m considering. I like that you often offer different styling tips relating to the outfit you are wearing, such as how to make it more work appropriate or a little more formal. I know everyone has their own personal preferences, but I like more info than just where an item was purchased. I can look at a department store website and get that much. ???? I like the personal touch and detail that you incorporate into your blog. I know it must be time consuming so thank you for all you do and prayers and blessings for continued success! ????
