Introducing Olay Regenerist Whip with SPF #mySPFmatch

I have a love/hate relationship with SPF.

For one thing, I love the sunshine. LOVE. IT. I’m a summer girl, through and through. As soon as the weather gets nice in the springtime, I’m outside on my deck daily, and once summer hits, I’m at the pool several days a week.

I like to drive with my sunroof open so the sunlight can stream in from above, and I run outside several times a week all year-round.

Sunblock is the last thing I want to think about as I’m headed out the door, especially once my makeup is already on.

While sunshine is good and healthy and provides that glorious vitamin D, we all know that sunburns can be dangerous.

And yet, it never fails… At the beginning of a new summer season, I always end up burning something — my face, my chest, my arms… whatever happens to be exposed when I’m out and about.

The only way to be sure I’m protected when I need it is to make SPF part of my morning routine, but sunscreen is not my favorite. It’s usually greasy and heavy or it has a strong smell, and I don’t want to put it on over my daily moisturizer because it doesn’t always work well with my makeup.

I was surprised to learn that statistics show that even though 2/3 of women know they should wear SPF daily, only 1/3 actually do. At least I’m not alone!

A few months ago, I reviewed Olay Luminous Whip Facial Moisturizer. It’s a fabulously smooth and creamy hydrating moisturizer, but it had no SPF so I could only use it at night.

Well, allow me to introduce you to its SPF sister: Olay Whip with SPF 25.

I’ve been wearing Olay Regenerist Whip for the past week or two, and I’m here to tell you it’s everything you’ve ever wanted in an SPF moisturizer.

Unlike other sunscreens, Whips with SPF 25 have Active Rush Technology, which holds and releases 1000x it’s weight in hydration, instantly absorbing into the skin. It truly feels so light and moisturizing, you’d never know it has SPF in it.

I love how it blends into my skin without leaving any oil or sticky residue. It also has a way of instantly smoothing out my skin, almost like a makeup primer. My foundation goes on so nicely overtop of this product, I’ve been skipping my makeup primer most of the time.

The scent is light and pleasant and doesn’t really linger after the moisturizer has soaked into my skin.

Because I tend to burn my chest without realizing it, I apply my SPF moisturizer to my face, neck, and chest every morning when I brush my teeth.

By making it a part of my morning routine, it’s practically effortless to protect my skin so I can get outside and enjoy the summer sun whenever I feel like it.

Best of all, Olay Whips are affordable and easily accessible. You can find them at your neighborhood drugstore or purchase online at Olay.com.

How about you? What’s your current relationship with SPF? Are you a daily devotee or a beach-day-only kind of girl? Why do or don’t you wear SPF every day?

If you decide to put Olay Whips with SPF to the test, let me know how it works for you!

  1. I live in Northern Ontario, Canada and I absolutely need sunscreen year round. The winter sun is so intensnse and bounces off the snow increasing its intensity and angles even more. Like you I struggled to add sunscreen to my daily routine and also like you I found facial sunscreens so greasy and didn’t work well with my make up. so I always looked for products that included spf in the formula. Estée Lauder is my go to moisturizer but it can be pricey so I am always looking for alternatives to switch it up once in a while. I always found Olay to be a good quality product so I will look for the Olay Whip with spf next time I’m shopping!  Thanks for the tip!
I can recommend Australian Gold sunscreen with spf 30 or 50 formulas if you need something a little stronger. It’s non greasy, in my opinion has a light fresh fragrance, is very moisturizerizing and works well under make up. Angie from the Hot and Flashy YouTube blog recommended it and i gave it a try and loved it!
Tip:  don’t forget to apply sunscreen to the tops of your ears, especially if you are wearing a pony tail or half up doo when out in the sun.  Nothing ruins a good look like crusty, flakey ears!!

    1. I also use Australian Gold sunscreen with spf 30 I like the fact that it’s non greasy, has a light fresh fragrance, I put it on under my makeup too

  2. I’m glad to hear your positive review.  I love the thin liquid Olay unscented and use it day & night.  Though not thick, it sinks right in and hydrates well (I’m in my 50’s).  But, I know I need SPF during the day and yes, definitely down to the chest so I don’t get the V tan (almost as bad as the cap sleeve tan!)  Also, obviously, so I don’t age there faster than necessary.  I’ll try this Whip SPF.  Thanks!

  3. Great post, Jo-Lynne. I just changed dermatologists and when she looked at my pale, freckled face, she asked me how long I had been using sunscreen year-round. The answer was 25 years. (Thank you, Mom.) She said she could tell immediately. I just wish I’d started putting it on my hands when I was 30!

Unrelated question, Jo-Lynne. I’ve been looking for colored jean shorts, or at least jean-style shorts. Have you seen any anywhere? I saw a woman at a rest stop wearing a pair in a tobacco color that were just gorgeous. I should have asked her where she got them! I like the jean style because of the pockets– chino-style always seems to have the awful side pockets.

    1. Talbot’s has a few different colored jean shades, though not nearly as many as last year.

  4. I had been seeing the Olay Whips on TV and wondered how it was so glad you made this post, I am definitely going to pick up a jar

  5. I LOVE this product! You’re right, it is so light and non-greasy, which is a must for something going on your face and neck! I have a friend whose sister died (many years ago) of melanoma when she was in her 30s. That was a wake up call for me to start wearing sunblock year round. It is SO important and melanoma is preventable. I cringe every spring at prom season when ladies let their teens go tanning. Pale skin (as pale as you were born with) is healthy skin! *steps down from soapbox* <3

  6. I have been wearing sunscreen daily on my face and neck for I don’t know how many years. I would say at least 25 years. I just turned 50 a couple weeks ago. I use a different formula depending on whether or not I will be putting on makeup. I usually wear foundation with SPF in it. For non-makeup days, and on my neck year round, I like Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Weightless Face. It has a light “beachy” smell that is typical for Hawaiian Tropic, and I love it. I also use Neutrogena products for the face with SPF and like them too.

  7. Hi, I actually have a shoe question for u😂 I’m curious if gladiator sandals that are not too high about mid calf are ok for a 41 yr old or are they too young u think??? I’m 5’9 with really long legs so I look and feel better in 6 1/2 inch inseam shorts or longer so I thought the gladiator sandals might be a cute edge but I am going back to school with my 19 and 20 yr old kiddos so don’t want to look like I’m trying to fit in with them😄 I love your Facebook live. I have to watch after work but I never miss them!!

    1. Thanks, Tamra! I’d have to see the sandals to say for sure what I think… I think it is largely dependent on your personal style aesthetic. I’m not sure I’m cool enough to pull those off (ha!) but they might work great for you!

  8. I will most definitely try this Olay whip with the 25 SPF next time. I love having a moisturizer with SPF in! Can you maybe give a link to your beautiful sunglasses you are wearing? I love them!

  9. Thanks for sharing. I’ve used olay cream for years but hadn’t found this one. I have used SPF 15 for years but need a higher number since I’m developing some sun spots on my face lately. Womp womp. Welcome to being 43. Ugh.
Good luck with graduation and moving. My oldest son graduated this weekend and it was a happy day. I told myself I was only crying happy tears. 🙂

  10. Thanks for this post on Olay.  How do you like it compared to R&F AM in their Redefine line?  I do like to wear it under my makeup and on my chest.  Any little bit helps!

  11. What about discoloration of clothing near where this product has been applied? I have too many articles of clothing ruined by lotions with SPF.

  12. Love your PSA about sunscreen and any product helping in that area.  Please know that the SPF one puts on with their make-up is only effective for 2 hours, so you gotta reapply!  I have had multiple surgeries including 2 on my scalp for sun damage.  I do like the Olay products.  I usually seek SPF 50…have had good luck with Supergoop products as well as a Paula’s Choice products, and love the IT CC cream with SPF 50.  I have an arsenal of products depending on the day’s events!!

    1. Oh my.  Cringing at “Please know that…”  Apologies to you and your readers for my (inadvertent) condescending tone.  YIKES.  Love your blog.  Love your attention to detail.  So sorry for not considering word choice and tone.  Thanks for all your hard work.

  13.  I just got a daily moisturizer with spf 15 in so glad i didnt open it yet back to Target to return and get this one. Back in the day I wore  Neutrogena tinted moisturizer with SPF. Well i havent been able to find it in years so i stopped weAring for the last 5 or more years.  My mom works for a  dermatologist  so she isnt very happy with me. This will make her happy thanks

    1. What does your mom’s dermatologist recommend on chemicals not good to have in our moisturizers and spf lotions. Does she know of brands of each to recommend?  I really want to be confident in products I use but don’t know route to go. Everyone thinks something different and so many choices. Thanks.

  14. I am going to look for this next time I go to the store. I really should be more cautious now that I am outside often.

  15. Hello Jolynne!  I read your blog almost daily and like your style.  I always come away with a good idea(s).   Understanding how important sunscreen is and how we all use makeup, there are many products on the market that are safe, chemical free and do not test on animals.  Oil of Olay does. Would you think about doing reviews on those products?  Thank you!  Kelley

  16. Don’t we have to worry about chemicals in the spf products? I never know what to do. I do use foundations with spf of 15 but know I should use sunscreen with higher spf but hate greasy feel under makeup and makes my bangs greasy. I’ll have to try this one but does it have the chemicals they say are harmful In spf products? Just hate the thought of putting all those extra chemicals on my face daily. Ugh what to do. :). I wish we all could start over with our skin. At age 56 I wish I knew I knew more back in the day. Remember when spf 8 was highest?  🙂 lol. Thanks for sharing about this product.

  17. I Love Oil of Olay lotion!  This product has been on my wish list to buy when my current lotion runs out.  Thanks for the review- I can’t wait to try it and I never thought about putting it on my chest too but it’s a good idea!
