It Just Goes To Show, There’s Nothing New In The World

A few weeks ago I posted and said that I would pay good money for a
pair of stylish jeans with a 9-inch rise.  And I wasn’t talking about
the kind with the tapered leg either.  I want a stylish, hip pair of
jeans that comes up over the belly flab and helps hold it in.  For the
past few years, I have been suffering through the "low rise" trend and
I’m here to tell ya, it ain’t purty.  I mean, I like the style and
all.  But on a woman who has born three children and carries her weight
in her middle, it’s not the most flattering cut of pant, that’s all I’m
sayin’.

Do you remember when "low rise" meant that the waist of the pant
sat right at or just below the belly button?  I think my first pair of
low-rise jeans had a 9 or 10-inch rise.  I recall getting my first pair
of "low rise bootcut jeans" at Old Navy, back around the year 2000.  I
thought I was so hip and cutting edge with my "low-rise" jeans.  They
sat just below my belly button.

Nowadays "low-rise" means they sit a good two or three inches below
the belly button, and I’m not even talking about the "ultra low-rise"
jeans with a 5- or 6-inch rise.  I am lucky to find jeans with an
8-inch rise.  It seems to me that 10 would be perfect, and I’d settle
for 9.  I have a pair of trouser jeans with a 10-inch rise, and I adore
them.  But I can’t seem to find anything in a more casual style and
wash.

UNTIL LAST WEEK!  I finally found The Jeans.

A Nordstrom
sale catalog showed up in my mailbox, and in it was a pair of jeans by
Seven for All Mankind.  I am already a fan of Sevens, so when I saw
that they now have a pair of jeans they are touting "high rise boot
cut" I was intrigued.  And they were on sale, which is virtually
unheard of in designer jeans.  I looked closely at the description and
I had to laugh when I saw that the rise was listed as 9 inches.  That
is NOT high-rise, people!

Nevertheless, I high tailed it over to Nordstrom to try them on.  They fit like a glove, do wonders for the rear view, and the waistband hits about an inch below my belly button.
They are definitely an improvement over the 7-inch-rise jeans have in
my closet.  I didn’t buy them on the spot, but I’m thinking good and
hard about it.  I have one week until the sale ends.

  1. Try Express. They have a new jean out by the name of EVA. https://www.express.com/catalog/thumbnail.jsp?parentCategoryId=2&categoryId=24&subCategoryId=25

The sales woman told me that they are trying to grow with and market to the demographic of woman who intitially shopped at Express when they first opened. It definitely is a high rise jean with skinny and boot leg options. It comes in three washes for either $59 (darker wash) or $69 (lighter wash). They are the answer to my prayers.

  2. Let’s just be realistic – those jeans will be in your closet by sale end. You’ll probably be sporting them tonight at the Bon Voyage party!!
    Love ya!

  3. Several of my friends have raved about Seven jeans. I’m seriously contemplating begging Husband to break the bank for me for my birthday. I’m so tired of the saggy butt syndrome that I am prone to experience. Having no rear end to speak of, the sag effect just makes things worse. Those jeans look great though.

And oh my goodness, I’m watching the weather and it is going to 104!!! on Sunday. Can I move in with you?

  4. AMEN AMEN AMEN!!!!! Am going to go try the Sevens and the Express incarnation. Low rise is my nemesis…not only for the middle “softness” I care not to display, but REALLY…even on the THINNEST of models they look ugly. There. I said it. As you were. 🙂

  5. When you find a great pair of jeans on SALE you do not hesitate, you do not debate… you buy!

Just for this I may have to take back that little award I gave you today. 😉

  6. That’s so funny I just measured to see what I might like and a 9 inch rise goes about 3 inches above my belly button! I am so short wasted it’s funny!

  7. Oooooh…I love Sevens too! Once I found a pair of flawless Sevens at a consignment shop for $30 IN MY SIZE! Crazy.

One question: Do you find with the higher waist that it bunches up in the crotch area when you sit down? That’s the one thing that keeps me going back to the low rise…I don’t like the bunch.

  8. At first I couldn’t figure out why you didn’t run to the check out with these jeans, then I saw the price – ON SALE.

Oy. I hate it when my pocketbook comes between me and my thighs/muffin/backside.

  9. I was a little baffled why you didn’t buy them, which lead me to searching for them. Now I see.

HOWEVER… I really think if you find a pair of jeans that fit so well and look great on you… they are worth more than their weight in gold. Ya know?

  10. I posted not too long ago about using True Jeans.com and getting a pair of Seven for All Mankind jeans — I LOVE THEM! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THEM. And, I’ve gotten so many compliments. Go for it girl – they are definitely worth the money!

  11. I actually have this particular pair of jeans, (or at least a very similar pair- 7 For All Mankind with a 9 inch rise) and I LOVE them! They’re extremely flattering and I always feel my thinnest in them. I wish I had bought two pairs, as the ones I have now are starting to get worn out!
