I’ve Got the Fever!

Spring Fever, that is.

I know, I know.  It’s too early to have spring fever here in Yankeeland.  I’m sure I’m setting myself up for disappointment, declaring springtime the first week of March, but my southern roots get me every. single. time.  I know this weather is just a tease.  After 15 years in Philadelphia, you’d think I’d get the memo.

Every year when November rolls around, I hunker down and prepare myself for five months of winter.  Or maybe six; even April in Philly is dicey.  In a weak attempt to manage my expectations, I tell myself just to expect winter weather right into April.  I mean, just a couple of years ago we had SNOW on EASTER.

Hahaha, the first time I typed that sentence, I accidentally typed SNOT for SNOW.  That made me giggle.  I’m such an adolescent.

No matter how much I try to prepare myself for the fickle spring of the northeast, I can’t help but get my hopes up that first week of March when it hits 55 and it’s light out at 6:30 am.  I think I might have even heard a bird tweeting outside my window this morning.

Yesterday I couldn’t resist diving into the attic to pull out some spring clothes and then going through the kids’ closets, performing my first round of seasonal purging.  I even had the audacity to pack away snow suits and heavy sweaters.  I’m sure I’m just jinxing myself and everyone who has the misfortune of living within a 100-mild radius of my optimism, but I couldn’t stand one more minute of the clutter in our laundry room.

I KNOW I’m setting myself up for disappointment, but I feel like spring might. just. be. around. the. corner.  Look what I found in my yard just this morning!

A girl can hope, can’t she?

Just for kicks, I searched spring in my archives, and I found this post, promptly followed by this one.  Yeah.  You’d think I’d learn.

  1. I don’t blame you at all. I would be the same way if I lived there. We had some very nice days last week, and a high in the 70s tomorrow, and I am quite excited. We will still likely have one more cold spell, but I can survive, knowing it won’t last. I’m also really tired of my rotation of winter maternity wear and want to wear my more colorful spring/summer shirts. 😉

  2. It was warm yesterday, but you know that it will be cooler next! I feel like I need create a wardrobe for Winring… Spring/Winter… those fabulous inbetween times!

  3. I was the same this weekend. I started going through Boo’s winter clothes and pulling what I could, but last year we did have snow the week AFTER Easter. Better not this year…man alive I am flying that weekend. lol

  4. I’m totally with you my friend! HOWEVER, down here in Central FL it REALLY is spring, hee hee….I’ve been diggin in the dirt for a couple of weeks now, love it!!!! 🙂

  5. I’m in the same place! We’ve had some warmer days, my lilies are also coming up – but I know that we will have at least one more big snow storm. Can’t wait for warmer weather!!

  6. I took the winter wreaths off the door today – I’m convinced Spring has to be here to stay in NC! (am I brave enough to pack up the gloves, too??)

  7. I do not blame you. I am down here in Texas and WE have had snow 3 times this year. I am so D-O-N-E wth winter. We spruced up our yard, planted our veggie seedlings, and have seen the buds beginning to bloom everywhere. I hope too hope that diaspoinment does not come in the form of a freak freeze late in spring for us, would only be fitting seeing the FREAK winter we have!

    YEA for Spring!

  8. Oh I’m hoping too. I am very ready for it to be warm. But down here on the Texas gulf coast we are probably a lot closer to it being an actuality. Sorry.

    1. Unfortunately, there is a LOT of snot my way. I have my first head cold in over a year and I’m being a real baby about it.

  9. I cannot wait for Spring weather. At the same time, we have a chance for snow this week. I’d love it. We usually only get rain here in the NW.

  10. I am 53 and was born and raised in Phila. and I still believe that when March comes I am at last free of nasty weather. I think they call it hope!

  11. Yeah, I’m in “sunny” California my tulips are still little nubbins barely peeking through the soil. I go out everyday and search for more cracks in the soil and help the little ones along by scraping away a bit of dirt till I can see the little shoot.

I’m easily entertained. What can I say?

  12. I’ve got the fever too! It’s funny because your last picture looks just like one I took yesterday and posted today. We spent yesterday having a picnic at the park, bike riding to the beach, and playing outside. Loved it!! Spring must be around the corner…right??!!
