Keeping It Colorful Year Round

It’s been almost six months since Shout® sent me with my team to the Color Run.

I was still struggling with plantar fasciitis in my right foot, but that was before I was brought down by a stress fracture and then a torn tendon in my left. I walked/ran the course with good friends and fellow bloggers, flitting back and forth between groups and finishing out the course with my good friend Jen. Then there was that moment where Shout ® brought us up on stage to take part in a dance party where we all threw colors in the air and danced like nobody was watching. Crazy fun.

Shout’s mantra is all about living life out loud, and by bringing us to the Color Run, Shout® enabled a group of busy moms to do exactly that — get out of the house, let loose, forget about our worries for a while and just have fun!

The best part about it was, I got to experience it with my 11-year-old daughter. I think it’s so important for my kids to see me being active and living life to the fullest.

In fact, it looked like so much fun that my 9-year-old was inspired to dress up as a Color Runner for Halloween. I know there will come a time when she will be way too cool to emulate her mom, but I have to believe that if I set the example for them, my kids will grow up to be adults who aren’t afraid to let go and get a little bit messy once in a while.

After the Color Run, we took our annual family vacation to Maine and kept living the Shout mantra. One day we rented a catamaran and took it out on the lake, and another day my husband and I biked Schoodic Point. I remember feeling active, strong, alive. I was bummed that I couldn’t run, but determined to find other ways to be active and stay fit.

I am so ready to get back to living life out loud. It’s been a long few months, being down and out with an injury that prevents me from doing the things I love to do. There are times when I truly feel like I will never be normal again, but I have faith that there will be more adventures like the Color Run. There will be more bike rides and more cool experiences with my kids. I WILL get out there and feel vibrant again, and I can’t wait.

I wrote this post in partnership with Shout. All experiences and opinions are my own.

  1. What a great experience to share with your daughter! I’m jealous lol… You’ll be back to normal but it does feel like forever when you’re laid up with an injury. Been there with my stroke! The waiting is the hardest part, but when you get back. life will be all the sweeter!

  2. I’ve always wanted to do the color run with my oldest, he would have a blast. As your daughter gets older she will look back and cherish these memories that you’ve made with her.

  3. What a great team for the Color Run, I love it! And I know I’m extra weepy today for some reason, but the pic of you and your daughter brought tears to my eyes. It was really, really sweet. Especially that part about having your kids see you live out loud. SOB. What is wrong with me today?!

    1. LOL . . . it’s a stressful time of year. If you’re anything like me, you’re hanging on by a thread at this point. 🙂 It really was a great experience. I can’t wait to do another one.
