Lace Trim Peasant Blouse with Bootcut Jeans

Hello, friends. Happy Tuesday! Today I’m getting my boho on with a peasant blouse and bootcut jeans. This is one of those outfits that I’m not sure it really flatters me, but I really love it for some reason.

I fell in love with this Bellange lace blouse when it arrived from Trunk Club a few weeks ago. The price point is up there, but Joie makes a gorgeous blouse. I absolutely adore this lace. Fortunately it was on sale (although it is on a better sale now, boo) so I decided to splurge on it because I felt like it would be a great piece to bring to the fashion blogging conference I’m attending in a few weeks.

For size reference, i’m wearing the medium. I initially thought it was too big, but when I tried the small, it didn’t lay right in the shoulders, so I stuck with the medium. I didn’t wear an under layer, but you may want one because parts of it are sort of see-through. The way the lace is placed, it’s fairly modest, but it’s up to your personal comfort level. For me, it will depend on where I am and who I’m with. I find that a cami will sometimes stick to my top and make it look awkward, so I avoid them when I can.

Since this blouse has a bit of a boho vibe going on, I paired it with bootcut jeans and espadrille wedges, but I also love it with skinny jeans. I can’t decide which is my favorite, so I’ll try to style differently for a future post so you can see it both ways. I like that I have a few options. It will also be really pretty with my mint skinnies.

My shoes are from last season, and they’re 50% off at 6pm.com, but this color is almost sold out. The adobe is gorgeous too! I also love these and these, and these are really cute for a more budget-friendly option. I actually have a pair of Steve Madden that are similar to those.

I thought these chandelier earrings were the perfect compliment to this outfit. I wanted something that stands out but doesn’t necessarily compete with the top.

I also added some of my Alex and Ani wire bangles. Since the sleeves are 3/4-length, they don’t get lost in the cuffs, and I thought I needed some bling on the arms.

My saddle bag is from last season as well, but there are lots of similar options if you’re in the market for one. I’m a huge fan of the R Minkoff small vanity saddle bag, and Sole Society has a similar one for under $100.

In this outfit, I’m totally ready for a casual night out on the town or a dinner date with my honey. I also think it will be perfect for one of the daytime events at the conference I’m headed to next month, although I might go with skinny jeans and a lower heel for that.

Every time this course runs, I get at least one email from someone disappointed that she missed the deadline, so I just want to make sure to remind you, in case you’ve been on the fence or just putting it off. Today is the last day to sign up. The course will run again sometime later this summer.

  1. I have one pair of flare jeans and I love them!! I don’t have enough shoes to go with them though. What other types do you think would be good? I have a wedge one like this and I’ve worn boots with them???
The top is lovely—did you wear your strapless bra with it because I don’t notice any bra straps at all!!
(nothing like a comment full of questions, huh, Jo-Lynne!!)

    1. They look great with pumps — especially a pointy toe. I also wear them with those strappy sandals with a block heel. I think bootcut jeans look good with any heel, pretty much. I’m not a fan of them with flats unless you’re super tall and/or very long-legged.

  2. Beautiful and I like that you switched it up and styled the blouse with flare jeans this time. They look great on you. Is that a nude or white colored bra your wearing? Your make up is flawless as well. Do you do your own makeup?

  3. I LOVE this look! I don’t think skinny jeans are flattering on me because I have thicker thighs, and the tight leg just accentuates that. Bootcut or flare jeans are much more flattering. Love this look.

  4. I also wouldn’t change a thing. I’m still wearing a pair of boot-cut jeans I’ve had for 15 years. Love the look & comfort!

  5. I love your look today. I wasn’t sure boot cut jeans could be worn with anything except boots, but I love how you styled them with sandals. I’m all in for that look!

  6. You look so pretty in this! I love this brand of blouses but as a shorter slight pear it’s not me…
I always appreciate all the thought you put into your posts! Julie

  7. Would you believe it?! I bought a blouse, almost identical to the Joie Bellange, at Winners for $30.. Score!
I love you in bootcuts! I’ve been wearing mine with pointy toe booties but I see they look just as good with sandals. Now, I can wear them in warmer temps.
I have very dry skin, so I’m heading to the drug store to pick up the Curel moisturizer. Worth a try.

  8. I love this outfit! And the photography is beautiful 🙂

I do love peasant blouses, but I always fear that they will actually make me look larger than I am. I think this outfit gives you a very nice silhouette though. I think maybe the key is finding a peasant blouse that is the right length. When they’re even just a little too short I think they make me look more balloon-like. This one seems to hit just right at the bend of the leg. Maybe that’s the key?

    1. But I actually do think this one makes me look larger than I am, lol. If I had on a fitted blazer, I would look more curvy and probably thinner, but I do like how it looks, and tops like this don’t always look right on me.

I think the length is at a good place to create balance, as long as I wear heels. I usually like my tops shorter than this. And the neckline is flattering and draws the eye up and away from my lack of waist (lol). The shape of the top isn’t ideal, but it has great movement and drape so it still follows the line of the body rather than billowing out. I tried a similar one from Lucky Brand, and I wanted to love it, but the material just wasn’t as forgiving. There are so many factors to consider, aren’t there!?!

  9. Hi Jo-Lynne,
I think you look beautiful and love your site. I have a very similar blouse that I bought at WHBM and recently wore it to work. As I was walking down the hall a coworker asked me if I was getting married. I just kept walking, but was very hurt. I am going to wear it again this week!,,

  10. I think you look great in boot cut jeans! I wish you would style them more, I hate skinny jeans. I am short and curvy and this outfit is right up my alley! I think it balances proportions very well.

  11. Oh wow!!!! You look beautiful in the blouse and the earrings are perfect for the blouse. Spot on. 🙂 I think you look so good in bootcut jeans. I still have some in my closet, but once I got use to skinny jeans, I can’t put the bootcut on. I’m 5’3″ and like the look of skinny better for my height. I can’t spend that much on the blouse but LOVE it.

  12. PS The fit of the blouse is perfect too. I know you were trying to pick it apart for fit on you but it looks great. 🙂
