L’amore è cieco

Hello Monday! I’m back today with another transition outfit. This one is a fun casual Valentine’s Day look, although I’ll definitely wear it all through the spring.

I’m a sucker for a graphic tee, and when I saw this red striped boatneck t-shirt proclaiming “L’amore è cieco” (love is blind), I couldn’t resist.

This tee is from J.Crew, so it’s a nice quality. It’s fairly boxy, but there’s some subtle shaping through the waist, and the small side slits are a fun detail. For size reference, I have the small.

I paired this t-shirt with black jeans and white sneakers for a relaxed casual vibe.

These jeans are the J.Crew 9″ high-rise skinny jean with button fly that I also wore in Friday’s post with a red floral top and pumps. They’re really comfortable and fit great, and these two outfits show how easy they are to dress up or down.

It’s hard to see the button fly in these pictures, and I like that it’s fairly understated due to the low contrast between the color of the buttons and the denim.

If you’re looking for the 3 keys to an interesting outfit, I once again omitted a completer piece, although I think this would be really cute with a black quilted vest on top for added interest (and extra warmth.)

Not every outfit needs a 3rd piece, though, and as we get into spring and summer, I’ll be showing fewer outfits with that component.

This look does have an obvious focal point — the striped tee — and there’s some subtle juxtaposition between the edgy black denim, preppy top, and sporty sneakers.

I would wear this to run errands or volunteer at my kids’ school or to grab coffee with a friend. I love how it’s basically just a t-shirt and jeans, but it looks a lot nicer than that.

  1. Another cold day here again but sunny. I think we are in for snow or freezing rain ( which we have seen more of than snow) by Wednesday… so I’ll enjoy the sunny days while we have them.. the wind has been crazy high too:( this is a cute outfit and I too love a graphic tee..

    1. We’re supposed to get the freezing rain tomorrow. Good times! 🙂 The kids are holding out hope for a snow day. They haven’t had one yet — only 2 hour delays and early dismissals.

  2. Another comfortable outfit Jolynn. The sneakers really compliment the look. Also I like the fact that you tend to crop the jeans a little bit to show some skin. The sockless look makes you feel much younger. Are you wearing any socks?, normally i tend to wear loose sneakers, without laces since it looks much more chic. Keep it up.

  3. What a great outfit that you look so nice in!  I can see this outfit being on repeat until the heat of summer settles in.  Enjoy the snow!  We have drizzle/light rain with temps in the 40’s now and supposedly going up into the 60’s.  We will be in the 70’s tomorrow with storms possible.

  4. Suggestion on DC: check out WhyHotel, you can get a two bedroom condo type setup w/ an addtl sleeper sofa for about same cost as standard hotel rooms. And their location may be more convenient than what you might find on AirBnb and the like. Also consider – you may not want to book anything too early due to the not truly settled status of the government shutdown. I’m not sure what attractions are/were running and what was closed. We had planned to go to DC for our early April Spring Break week but are reconsidering due to this and have not made any non-refundable travel plans!

  5. Such a cute shirt! Our favorite part of our last family trip to DC was going to Mt. Vernon to see George Washington’s estate. It’s well worth the admission.

  6. I think we have had more snow then you here in Seattle. In the past week at my house, we’ve had about 14 inches. It’s been crazy and we anticipate more today. I’m done with it! For Washington DC, we went two years ago for Spring Break and stayed in Airbnb near Eastern Market metro stop. Very walkable area with some great restaurants (where I learned there are some great wines from Croatia!). There’s a great street market there too and you can walk to the Capital if you choose too. Highly recommend the area to look for Airbnb. We love Airbnb because we think it gives you a great feel for where you are visiting!

    1. Thanks for the feedback! And yes, you have definitely had more snow in Seattle than we have this winter. It is an odd one, for sure! At least we’re getting enough to make it look like winter. 🙂

  7. We were just in DC with the family last August.  We stayed in the Georgetown area.  Wherever you stay, make sure you are within walkable distance to the Metro.  We also used Lyft and Uber to get around.  Be prepared to spend a lot of money on food.  All the museums were free except the Newseum, but make sure you get advance reservations at some, such as the Holocaust and African American Museum.  We traveled with 4 twenty-somethings and booked a Segway tour, it was fun, easy,  and also a great way to get a quick overview of the city and have a tour guide show us the “lay of the land”.

  8. My red and white tee just arrived – and I love it! This will be so cute with jeans, and I think it will look nice with white shorts this summer.
I like the length of this tee – not too short and not a tunic. The stripes are matched at the seams, a detail I like to see. Size Small was the right choice for my size 6 figure; the shoulders fit perfectly, and while I wish J Crew put a bit more ease in the chest area on their tees – this one fits.
LOVE this top – thanks for showing it to us!!
